I spent about 20 years in the Sudbury area and never seen those lakes in the summer, but they were my travel route during the winter. Spent almost every weekend in that area ice fishing. Brings back some great memories.
@@TheHappyCamper Kevin I know it's not what your into but did you ever think about snowmobiling deeper into that area. The Lady Evelyn Smoothwater park is breathtaking in the winter. Not sure if you can camp there in the winter but just south there are lakes that are great.
I realize this is an older video, so maybe this tip has already been learned: the color blue attracts deer flies. Hats, tops, etc. This is weird, but I frequently attach a blue solo cup that is covered with Tanglefoot to the top of a blue hat. Tanglefoot is a gardener's product that is sticky to insects that land on it. At the end of a river trip, my solo cup will be covered in deer flies and I will not be bothered by deer flies. Also, it is fun to see the reactions of those other paddlers I see on the river! I simply tell them I am communicating with aliens...
Hello Kevin, I recently purchased your lost canoe routes book and in the description sections you mention “Advanced Tripping Skills”. Can you tell me what would fit that description?
Where are you in this video? I know it’s not Ontario or not recent haha. I’m watching this covered on snow and -15 out. Would much rather be on the water
Kevin, you mention the high water levels you experienced on this late June trip, along with a comment about doing the trip later in the season. We are thinking about doing this loop in the 3rd or 4th week of July, can you comment on the water levels on the Sturgeon at that time?
@@TheHappyCamper have you done the small chain of lakes to join the sturgeon at kettle falls? Or is up stream paddle easier to see that? Otherwise hoping to do the route as described in your book!
Very cool. I’ve got APP and a first ever trip to WCPP. I always love watching your spring trip videos with the gang, I’m looking forward to the next one. Cheers
I needed this. So cold in Minnesota that I can't even foresee having fluid H2O ever again..... Time to start planning the next canoe trip!
Kevin we did the Chiniguchi Sturgeon loop this past summer awesome but definitely challenging
Glad you did it. One of my favourite...but yes, challenging for sure.
Awesome! Can't wait to get back out paddling! Cheers Kevin!
Waterborne Camper got a new video coming out? Just subscribed to you
@@Daveluvsoutside nothing new in the works right now sadly as Im injured, but soon hopefully! Thanks for watching/subscribing!

I've gone there in the winter as well. Awesome

Thanks Kevin: I'm convinced June is for cabins, with a good view. Brian 78
Have you ever done the lower Chiniguchi River? I am curious about it, especially where it meets the Sturgeon River
Good stuff!

That's a great tip
Check out Lee Valley Tools deer fly patches. They work really well also. Can't wait for later on in the summer.

Also Kevin, where can I get maps like that?
Amazing footage. :) Did you happen to do any fishing there?
Yes. Good bass fishing in Chinquichi Lake. Didn't do so well on the Sturgeon - not sure why.

It should be fine, as long as it's not drought conditions.
The full loop, described in my Top 60 Canoe Routes, is the better option than the short cut of small lakes we took half way down. Far ore scenic.

@@matttrimble1600 Yes. It's a good route as well - but not maintained that much.
Please...........More videos with Kristine!!!
we should have one soon.
Where can I get a bug tent like that?
Look at the Eureka Canada site.
Any interesting trips lined up for 2019?
Yep. Algonquin for sure. And hopefully a longer version of this one. Lake Superior as well.
