I swear, most of these are probably based on jokes that only the people who made these logos would understand. We're completely lost on what the jokes are.
@@ChristopherSobieniak The fact that they were planned this well probably further indicates that perhaps some of these were inside jokes of sorts that only the people making the studios would get. The IDs have been preserved so we can see just how ahead of their time they were, but the jokes are completely lost on us.
0:58-1:08 is my favorite one! It reminds me of The Masked Singer Season 6 where when the Take It Off Buzzer is hit and after the panelist made his or her guess, the contestant tries to take off his or her mask. But when the celebrity is about to be revealed, the contestant stops trying to take the mask off which meant the panelist was wrong.
I think what they did at 1:51 to achieve that effect was create a stencil-like image of the Vpro logo on some sort of hard material. Then, some sort of Play-Doh-like substance was pushed through the holes, creating what appeared to be a melting cast of the logo.
I can understand why a lot of people don’t like these idents, but you have to admit that for the 1970s they are pretty ahead of their time. Also let’s not forget the fact that VPRO was an avant-garde channel. That definitely explains a lot of these logos.
Probably some of the best logos I've ever seen (there are a few that are not very good or in one rather...weird but even that is quite impressive for its time, especially when in high quality)

Hi Jaap - what was the idea behind 1:47 ? I'm sure it's on a lot of minds, and is utterly bewildering out of context, since I saw you suggested some of these 'leaders' did have context. does it represent someone pooping out the logo? or is it intentionally vague? I think I can see a drip of water run down the frame in the early part of the sequence - is that from the material that was being pushed through, or something? It almost looks like sweat, haha. It seems like a lot of people in the comments don't realise this is your work... shame, credit is due.
Does not scare me as hell. Looks Cool, Fun, Relax, Perfect, Unbelievable, Unforgettable, Good, Funny, Hilarious, Adorable, Cool, Amazing, and Awesome! To Me, WOW! Just WOW. This logo was like WTF!
That is because VPRO was a Public Broadcaster focusing on Arts and Culture aimed towards teenagers, so even their idents are surrealistic, similar to MTV.
Is there a full, clean version of the elusive VPRO theme somewhere? The music in the very first one and the "Laat" bumper specifically. There's a recording of a bumper with the theme and an announcer voiceover.
They're certainly ahead of their time given the artistic talent involved. The US didn't really go for this until the 1980's with cable TV giving way to channels like MTV which defined station Identification for a good while.
That one doesn't look too bad to me. I suppose it was a challenge to combine different lips like that in chromakey or whatever matting process while having the camera zoom in on different areas to make it look like the lips are moving in those directions. Don't forget this was still the early 70's.
These are probably some of the best European Logos/Idents I have seen. Thank goodness they were uploaded here for prosperity.
I swear, most of these are probably based on jokes that only the people who made these logos would understand. We're completely lost on what the jokes are.
nah, i think these dudes were just visionaries
@@SmeddyTooBestChannel Or they were a bunch of lunatics that had too much of the weird juice from under the sink.
the playfulness and creativity going on here is incredible! nothing but analog/optical effects
True.
It would seem too easy to do these digitally nowadays, back then, they had to plan this!

The sheer wtf of these idents is crazy, the Dutch are a different breed I swear to god 💀💀💀

Pretty much. That was pretty interesting how they did that.
It looks like Kinetic Sand.
Can you ask me, Jaap?
and they recorded that goddamn moaning sound from someone probably uhmmm.. ummmmm
It might had been sand being pushed or something
The wave one could be still used (3:51) nowadays if it was optimised, it's way ahead of its time!
Was just listening to "An Electric Storm" by White Noise and thought of this, thanks for sharing these by the way.

Are you sure these are from the early 70s? Some of them seem VERY ahead of their time.
And they are very high in quality
I am sure...thnx
Wow, VPRO must have been quite a network.
IKR? And also, after doing research, I found out that this logo last for 10 years (1971-1981)
It was! And still is, kind of. From the 1980's on the influence of ratings increased. Management and hierarchy took over.
