    I swear Emily Blunt MUST do more action movies. She is so fit for the female-action hero type of character. This movie sure is a big boost for that.

      There are a few genres of film I'd encourage her to dabble in...but yes she is good at this, Looper was excellent, watch it if you haven't yet. Take care.

      You were right Clinton, it is a "-really awesome movie!". I thought it might have been a little repetitive but it was very well done, can't fault it at all. I could watch it again right now and I don't say that about many films. Thanks again and take care.

    As for my comment earlier, a perfect prequel would star blunt as the titular character, like what happened at Verdun? The girl of Verdun had to have a beginning. How did she slay so many mimics? Who did she lose? What happened to Hendricks?

    • @waldomarek
      @waldomarek 10 років тому +2

      or another movie which happened roughly at the same time, which would allow us to see the war from another point of view (for example from the russians/chinese side). someone who has the same powers as emily blunt/tom cruise, but fought somewhere else (and obviously failed killing the alpha).

    • @BanilyaGorilya
      @BanilyaGorilya 10 років тому

      waldomarek That would be good, like the Russians, use a russian actress, and a chinese teenage recruit with no combat training. It almost reminds me of Raleigh and Mako from Pacific Rim, but the suits would be smaller of course. I can just imagine the language barrier, and the new weapons mounted on the suits Gauntlets, and maybe the suit itslef. The weather is different there, so maybe more armor and insulation. WOOOO!!!! See what the ideas of a not too distant science fiction movie can take you too!

      In the book it makes more sense, basically the loop does not stop until the battle ends, the battle does not end until the loop stops. To stop the loop you must disable but not kill the mimic that is sustaining the loop, kill every single other mimic that is acting as a backup to maintain the loop, before killing the actual mimic that is trapping you. But still I'm really looking forward to watching this movie.

    • @jurrasicparx
      @jurrasicparx 10 років тому +7

      #spoiler She lost her power when instead of dying on the battlefield (and starting the loop again) she broke some bone and passed out and then woke up getting a blood transfusion and her power was gone.

    • @Breakerblue
      @Breakerblue 10 років тому +14

      You can feel it when you lose it.

    • @caielesr
      @caielesr 10 років тому +2

      During her resets at the battle of Verdun it is logical to assume that she attempted to identify the cause of the resets ( the alpha's blood) and most probably succeeded.
      She deduced that she lost her power because of the blood transfusion.
      Also, an individual with the ability to reset also experiences visions and noises induced by the omega.
      The loss of the visions and noises + the blood transfusion + that vague "feeling' = loss of the ability.

    This is exactely what made oldie action movies so aweosme and believebale, like T1/2, Aliens, Predator, Commando etc... They didnt have so much CGI as current movies have.
    And its awesome to see in this movie - that they actually used the real suit and performed a lot of stunts / exlosions for real, this is why it feels so legit and unique.

    Maybe the film's disappointing box office is a blessing in disguise. It deserved to be a major success, but then we would probably have had a sequel/spin-off film that would have soured the memory of the original. I hope the film has found it's audience on DVD and other home media.

    Cruise gets a bad rap for the Oprah jumping event. But I've got to say, it's the sort of energy that got him such hatred that makes me enjoy his movies. This and Knight and Day are 2 of my favorite movies and that's because he really does put so much energy into his roles.

    Some deleted scenes, that didn`t make it to the cinema version
    12:44 (When Cage is walking alone throw scorched earth)
    12:50 ( Cage mask scene was deleted, just like sunset scene coming next).
    Hope there will be directors cut and this scenes will be longer that just a few seconds.

    • @vladxx2
      @vladxx2 10 років тому

      If you watch the IMAX trailer carefully you'll notice several other parts that seemed to have been cut out (I counted 4 others).. Not sure how long they were, could have been just a few seconds long for all we know but I sure hope they'll release an extended DVD version of the film with the deleted scenes in the movie, since I think they ended up cutting out quite a bit :)

    I just saw this movie the other day and I actually really enjoyed it! Going with a real mecha suit rather then CGI mecha was the SMARTEST move of the movie imo.
    With today's advancements in filmography/cgi/movie props etc. and the relative smoothness of Edge of Tomorrow I feel that the doors are wide open on doing a Robotech/Macross/Mospeada type of movie. Done right these series could potentically spawn multiple million dollar grossing films easily as the fan base is still there after these 20+ years.
    Hell just look at the Oblivion bike...that's the Cyclone right there in bike form almost especially how he folds it out from the wrecked plane. Then the Edge of tomorrow suits just needs the upper torso redone because the legs and the weapons on the arms already resemble humanoid Cyclone mode as it is.

    The Best TOM CRUISE movie for sure! If these two was single Hollywood will have new "Jolie Pit" type of couple. Their astrology compatibility is astonishing over 80 % 1 in 1000 cases. One of the reasons TOM CRUISE to play so well when talking to Emily is that "HE IS NOT PLAYING". Every smile, every move, every touch he just cannot fake that. Just look at their interviews how both change when they start talking for each other. THIS IS THE ASTROLOGICAL ENERGY MATCH THAT CANNOT BE PLAYED BY A SCREEN PLAY! ;) And the result is AMAZING!

    Too bad there won't be a sequel. I mean, it has potential for one, definitely a prequel, sort of like how Pearl Harbor historically, is a prequel to Saving Private Ryan. We need a Pearl Harbor movie in this fashion. Kind of like Battleship, which was ok. But imagine the alien force, in the book, these Mimics invaded the ocean and copied the DNA of the first organism it cam into contact with, in the books case, it was a pufferfish. But in the movie, it looks like a tentacled lion made of T1000 liquid metal.

      Agreed a sequel would not have been the way to go. However, I think a prequel could have been really cool. I saw the idea floated around in the comments of a sequel focused on Emily Blunt's character and becoming a leader.
      Also the performance of this movie does not bode well for other well done Asian, anime/ Manga inspired action movies. :(

    • @Verbal_Ninjutsu2
      @Verbal_Ninjutsu2 10 років тому

      +DrCruel You have to factor in the marketing cost which often is not included in the production budget. Also, studios do not recoup as much money on per ticket basis from international ticket sales as they do in america.
      Just spitballin
      Domestic Sales Studio sees a return of .80 on each dollar.
      International Sales Studio Sees .50 on each dollar.
      Something like that.

      The mimics, as described in both the original novel and manga, come in various sizes. So the humanity may send big droids with heavy weaponry but there are thousands of small mimics that can infiltrate anything with their small size at very high speed, making it difficult to use large heavy vehicles like tanks to kill them. Also it seems by the time the mimics attack, the AI technology isn't that highly developed just yet to carry the tasks, hence human soldiers in exo-suits. Also, look so much cooler, see Rita's helicopter-blade? Badass.

      The exosuit, while kind of advanced, is still plausible technology. Making intelligent robots that perform well in combat as infantry isn't quite a reality yet. I know we have predator planes but they are not all-terrain. I remember watching some documentary once about operation Desert Storm where some Iraqi commander was talking about how he lost 10% of his force to air raids but it wasn't until the ground war where his units got decimated. If you want to take a beach, airplanes are not enough.
      I guess what I'm saying is, the movie looks like it is set in the near-future, and not a time where our technology is advanced enough to have robotic infantry.

    The novella is WAY better than the film.
    And what the fuck happened to the Mimics and the Jackets? Why is Rita using a cheap helicopter blade instead of a 200 Kilogram battle axe? The mimics in the novella were a lot more dangerous and a full squad of Jacketed soldiers was required to take down a SINGLE mimic. In the movie, it's like "lol, just hit it with a machine gun and it goes down easy,"
    And the Jackets. Oh god, what the hell did they do to the Jackets? In the Novella, the Jackets were supposed to offer full body protection, and could take a full 12 guage shotgun blast a point blank range without taking a scratch. The Jackets were equipped with a 20mm rifle, a rocket launcher, and a 20 round pile driver. Only two of those weapons are effective against mimics. In the film all you need is something like a knife to hit the soldier in the neck and they die instantly.
    And Rita... Why the fuck did you drop a 200 Kilo Battle Axe for a helicopter blade? In the book, she uses a heavy Battle Axe because unlike the pile driver, it never runs out of ammo, and the sheer weight of the weapon combined with the extra strength that her Jacket gives her allows her to easily crush and cut Mimics.
    I could go one about how the ending in this film makes no freaking sense either, but I'll stop here. Basically, do yourself a favour and read the Novella rather than watch this crummy movie.

      Too much bitchin Simon just enjoy the movie or not. Every book adept movie will never be the same as its source material. But they did a very good job keeping it close to the material. It's nothing like dragon Ball evolution if u know way I mean.

      Keeping it close by adding a completely stupid ending that not only breaks the rules of the book, but also the rules of the movie!
      Also, they didn't stay true in any way to the novella. If you want movies as examples of what you can do by staying completely true to the source material, watch Sin City, or even movies like Watchmen that, while not entirely true, are very close to it.
      I'm all for changes, but if what you change makes the end product worse than the original, it is not a good change.

      Simon Pilon true I didn't like the ending that much but overall it was a good adapted movie weather u like it or not. Bc alot ppl did like it that I heard from. But wat ever float ur boat man. Watchmen was great too. Still waiting on a ghost in the Shell live adaption movie though which they re working on. Though I would like to see a remake live guyver movie again wit a bigger budget bc the 90s version was good but wasn't accurate wit the story plot.

      I have to agree that the battle axes and the armor designs didn't need to be changed in order to make a film adaptation but it really seems they took a less violent route on adapting the novel to film. I have yet to see the film but I've read All You Need is Kill many a times and it's easily one of my favorite Japanese light novels/ manga I've read to this day I thoroughly enjoy it, but the thing is films whose original source material is of Japanese origin will always be americanized in one way or another. The novel focuses much more on Keiji's feeling of loneliness and overall helplessness as where Edge of Tomorrow focuses on the action aspect. The adaptation may not have been perfect but to me it doesn't seem completely blasphemous to the original material.
