  • And now for another Guilliman video! Guilliman crying to show another side to potential the most complex primarch, or at least the most fleshed out!
I like the little moments of humanisation of our legion leading, unviersal demi-gods like this.

Prayto rose to his feet, sensing that his audience was ended. Guilliman noticed that the Librarian had been regarding, with some interest, books and data-slates piled on a side table.
‘You read, Titus?’ the Avenging Son asked.
    ‘Of course, my lord.’
Guilliman demurred with a slight shake of his hand. ‘You misunderstand. Of course you can read. But I don’t mean data, or tactical updates, or informational material. Do you read fiction? Drama? Poetry? History?’
Prayto maintained a solemn face, though he was amused. There were times when Lord Guilliman of Ultramar seemed to know everything about everything, in astonishing detail, yet he could also be childlike in his naivety and not understand very basic things about the people and the culture surrounding him.
‘I do, my lord,’ said Prayto. ‘As I believe someone in this very room said, in the address to mark the recommencement of the Librarius programme, our minds are our primary weapons, so it pays to exercise them well.’
Guilliman laughed and nodded. ‘I did say that,’ he agreed.
‘I read extensively to that end,’ said Prayto. ‘I find the notions and wisdoms contained in literature and poetry push my mind to places that pure technical reading does not. I enjoy the epic cycles of Tashkara, and the philosophies of Zimbahn and Poul Padraig Grossman.’
Guilliman signalled his approval with a tip of his head. ‘All Unification Era, of course,’ he said. ‘You should explore the classics.’ He crossed to the side table and took up a data-slate. He handed it to Prayto. ‘You’ll enjoy this,’ he said.
‘Thank you, my lord.’ Prayto studied the title. ‘Amulet, Prince Demark?’
‘It’s drama, Titus. Ancient stuff, from M2 or earlier. One of the few extant works by Shakespire.’
    ‘Why this, my lord?’
    Guilliman shrugged.
‘My father had me read it as a child. I was reminded of it by current events, so I had it fetched from the Residency biblios. In the ancient kingdom of Demark, ghosts walk upon the palace battlements, and are premonitions of great societal change in the court of that realm.’
Prayto shook the slate approvingly. ‘I will enjoy it,’ he said.
Guilliman nodded, and turned back to his cold-gestalt machine. The audience was over.

I wonder if you might, in the future, release his "Why Do I Still Live" monologue with the accompanying bit where he rallies himself after seeing the citizens of Macragge working side-by-side with the Ultramarines to rebuild the Fortress of Hera, his conversations with Frater Mathieu, and basically every moment he has with Tarasha Euten. She and Konor did an excellent job raising their boy.

People don't hate Guilliman : they hate the Ultramarines' Mary Suish way of being handled by Games Worlshop. Most specifically, concept wise, the Ultramarines represents the archetype of what a space marines is and should represent ; when people hear "Space Marines" they should think "you mean, like the Ultramarines ?" or something like that, because of how incredibly competent the Chapter is (and even was then as a legion.)
However, lore wise, Games Workshop way of handling them make them made them look like Mary/Gary Sue/Stu and had the very adverse effect of cheapening their achievments and, by extension, that of every chapter that wasn't them. Ergo, the Ultramarines ended up having the ill reputation of embodiying the very concept of _"Plot Contrivence because they're daddy's favorite (i.e. Games Workshop cash cow)"_ and got that label stuck to them since then.
Guilliman, being their Primarch and having wrote the Codex Astartes that contributed to making the Ultramarines _"Oh, so special"_ (read as in GW cash cow), got that same label slapped on him through "guilt association". Despite the fact that, purely from both a cannonical and personnal point of view, of all the Primarchs, he really was the one that ended up keeping the whole thing together and prevented the Imperium from collapsing when as it's worst.
If anything, Guilliman do deserve some much earned recognition for all of his work. Because when things go well no one has to think about anything in particular and just happily go with the flow. But when unforeseen situations or crisis arise that need to be dealt with while not having prepared for it, the one that says _"who's got a plan ?"_ generally also translate as being the one *without* a plan and require someone to pick up the slack.
The "pick up the slack" guy in this metaphor ? Yeah, that's Guilliman.
And seeing the size of the slack that Erebus made Lorgar and Horus do for Guilliman to pick up, i'd honestly fight/debate ANYONE badmouthing him.

New fans: “Why does the fandom hate Guilliman so much?”
Because he single-handedly ruined the Astartes’ ability to protect the Imperium and stripped them of the authority and unity needed to enforce compliance. Making him pretty much personally responsible for what the Imperium became. Look around the Imperium. You aak yourself “Why don’t the Marines have the strength to defeat these countless threats and save these worlds?” You ask yourself “Why do the Space Marines tolerate all this corruption and oppression and tyranny when the Great Crusade destroyed such things?” The answer is Guilliman. The Horus Heresy was not his fault, but the Dark Imperium _is_ his fault. It is like wondering why crime increases when the police are stripped of their power. Guilliman did the stripping, the Astartes are the police, and ten thousand years of dystopian nightmare is the result. To say nothing of the fact that him doing this was directly contrary to the duties and purpose the Emperor made the Primarchs and Space Marines for and how he used them. So, he’s also a backstabbing traitor who destroyed the Emperor’s dream and the primary purpose of the Imperium’s creation.
Are you starting to see why he pisses us off?
And to top it all off, when he returns he has the gall to blame the normal humans for the consequences of obeying _his_ edicts. Even as he quietly tries to fix his mistakes in the Space Marine numbers and organization and in legal matters while never once admitting to his guilt.

    • @johnecoapollo7
      @johnecoapollo7 5 місяців тому +7

If he crippled the Imperium's defensive abilities, why is the Imperium still standing?
Guilliman responded to a changing situation. The Imperium wasn't going on any offensives after the Heresy, it needed to stabilise and hold a domain that covered the entirety of the Milky Way. Having nine large masses of troops that needed months upon months to muster and manoeuver and tailored for offensive operations wouldn't do that. The Primarchs with more of a strategic outlook on warfare agreed with that assessment.
Skip forward a few thousand years and Guilliman led one of the most successful offensives in the history of the Imperium and began reforming its structure. Now I wonder, what came between those two events? Could it be that someone in stasis can't do anything? Could it be that mere humans couldn't operate at the level of being specifically created to be to a regular human as we are to ants and thus couldn't wield the political machinery he left in place the way he would?
Nah, it can't be that, smurf boy went against my favourite Primarch and therefore I must be a little testy about it.
