Some more useful information several different people have mentioned in the comments! Another thing about withdrawing cash from ATM's in Egypt - many times you'll be given the choice between exchanging money "with conversion" and "without conversion". Always select "without conversion", because your own bank's exchange rate is always better than the suggested conversion rate, and they often also tag on a hefty flat fee for this "service". You can also tip in GBP (not just euros or US dollars) just an fyi, uber works with any phone number. I've used it on an international phone that had no service...using wifi A sim card expires when your visa expires (so if you get a 30 day visa on arrival, your sim card will stop working after 30 days when that visa expires. You can always extend your visa at an office in Egypt and then update the phone company after you receive your extension-but that does mean you will probably be without service for a while until they complete the extension process.) Ubers prefer cash as the drivers get payed 30 days after doing the trip, so if you have cash, that is best.

There are no problems between Egypt and Canada, and political relations are strong. Every year, hundreds of Egyptians immigrate to Canada - and we Egyptians love Canada.
Dear Giselle, I subscribed and watched your videos before I traveled to Egypt and they helped me a lot. I followed your advice and remained in Cairo. I didn't buy a tour and I visited all the places on my own. It was easy and fun. I returned Oct 15 and im planning to return once the new Museum opens. Best of luck, im sharing your videos and hope you get to 100k followers soon, you deserve it.
That is very kind of you, thank you!!! Lol and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Cairo, I know it isn't for everyone but I really love this bustling, crazy city. Thank you so much again for your support! ❤
Just wanted to share my experiences. I wasn't able to get back in to buy a sim card after going through the customs in terminal 2 and ended up walking to terminal 1 to get it. Charles Schwab rebates all ATM fees internationally. Some business offer currency exchange at a good rate, 40 EGP for 1 US in August. I prefer using Indrive than Uber. Thank you for making this video.🙏
Your channel is GREAT. There are like a thousand videos on YT from people who just went to Cairo for a week or something and are suddenly 'experts', it's infuriating. Anyway I like how you're new enough to understand the tourist perspective but seasoned enough to find your way around and point out what's good. Nice work and keep it up!
Ach I know what you mean, they annoy me too actually 😆 I love Egypt, and unfortunately a lot of vloggers seem to jump on the "scam!/harassed" bandwagon for views. First of all, it's not as bad as the internet makes it seem, and even then, that stuff happens in touristic areas. REAL Egypt, local areas and people, are extremely generous, friendly and helpful, expecting nothing in return. So many tourists only see the touristic side of Egypt, where pesky vendors congregate and scammers do of course flock, and then they come to the conclusion that the entire country is like that. It's absolutely not true, and sad they only see that and share it with everyone as a whole truth. Thanks for your support and commenting man! Much more to come, I have dozens of ideas of videos I want to make, things I want to show, and it's just about finding the time to do it all 😅
Thank you! I'm always glad to hear that, I definitely try hard to make them informative and useful so I'm glad it's working! 😁 Have a blast in Egypt it's a wild ride and so much fun 😎
Hi This is Sean from Canada. Hope you are doing well. You have helped me a lot in the past with my questions. I just wanted to say amazing video, very knowledgeable information. This will help a lot of people that are planning a trip to Egypt. I watch all your videos. I am looking forward to be there mid February, hopefully we can meet in person and I can invite you and your boyfriend for lunch or dinner as an appreciation for all your help that you provided every time I had a question. I wish you all the success . Have a wonderful day
Thank you so much Sean, that's always awesome to hear my videos have been helpful, it's definitely my goal when making many of them! If I'm in Cairo in February and not traveling anywhere or busy working, I think that would be cool to meet up, thanks for the offer!
Here I am in Minnesota with a trip to Egypt in a few weeks and the first two videos I find when looking for information are by people from MN (this and Egypt Adventures Travel). Thanks for the tips, it's really helped assuage a lot of concerns with the recent events in the area.
Haha, that's so awesome! Gus's channel is really great, I know I learned quite a few things from his channel 2 years ago before coming to Egypt myself. Enjoy Egypt, from North America to Africa, yalla! 🎉😆
First of all, I'd like to thank you for your informative videos, which would be very helpful for anyone planning on visiting Egypt, as well as helping us clear any misconception related to safety in Egypt, especially amid the current Israeli-Palestinian struggle. As for the issue of only accepting credit cards for purchasing monumental sites' tickets, if I'm not mistaken, they would accept your cash payments as long as you have a (Bank / Exchange office) receipt to prove the source of your money; it's one of the government's actions for fighting the parallel (Black) market.
Oh, well maybe that is true...but I don't know. They didn't ask me for a receipt to pay in EGP, they just said I needed to pay with card. But perhaps that is a possibility. I suppose that means foreigners wanting to pay in cash would need to carry that receipt from the bank with them though, which I don't think many people would do....who knows 😅
@@Gventures I know it's not a very reliable option. Not everyone would be carrying the bank receipts everywhere they go or even still be holding on to them at that point. Anyway, I wish you a great time in Egypt and all the best with your channel.
I like your analysis of location, planning to visit Egypt and having hard time to convince myself to stay in New Cairo 5 settlement. going to meet classmate dating 30 years back. I am used of Downtown and the area around it. Even though I grow up in Nasr City.
Thank you for your informative videos on Egypt, your knowledge and language skills are always growing. just an fyi, uber works with any phone number. I've used it on an international phone that had no service...using wifi
Great video, thanks. I’m looking forward to the tipping video, heading to Egypt in January and much of the information out there predates the big inflation spike. I’m curious to know what the situation is. (And I’m an Aussie, so the whole concept of tipping is foreign)
lol well that may also be my problem, I'm American so I feel bad not tipping a lot. But my Egyptian friends always tell me to tip less, I just find it hard to do 😆
Your eyes are beautiful and attractive, and we thank you for your tiredness and appreciation for Egypt, and you are Egyptian, hand, and Egypt loves you very much, she and her and her people 🎖🌹🎖🌹❤️🇪🇬
I like your video's, I travel often via Egypt, I always stay by the Pyramids $25-$50. Your right, on money, just use your ATM, better, Visa $25 at Airport for us, right on! I want to ask you about the SIM Card, I have never got a sim card, my phone works for $5 a day with my company, But I see 5 a day could add up huh! in Japan my phone worked great and Egypt, Jordan, Israel, I will try it next time. I find in most places if I google where I want to go it comes up in the local languages and if the taxi or who ever don't speak English, I just show them my phone and its easy.
You are truly amazing. Thank you so much for your advices. We are planing to land on Cairo for the first time. The good point is that we are fluent in Arabic😂 so scamers here we come! Even if, we are quite anxious but your video helped us a lot! Thank you again❤
Thank you! Yes speaking Arabic will definitely help. You'll obviously run into people trying to overcharge you (so, scammers) since you are not Egyptian, but at least you can easily barter since the language is the same. Egypt is amazing, you're going to have a great time 😄😍😎
I like you. This is the most helpful video I've seen yet. Thank you very much. I've been hoping to get to Egypt for 30 years. With the current state of Canada I think the time has come. Maybe a solo trip one way and I'm never coming back. Thanks again for the good advice
Youre videos are a lot of help. I'm going to have to disregard you're advice on where to stay I'm afraid. I have no interest in Cairo or anything on the east Bank until Luxor. I think I will stay at Giza for a while then hit Saqqara, Dahshur Memphis and so on. hopefully get as far as fayoum oaisis. Then maybe cross over to to the new Kingdom sites. Keep up the good work, you're videos are the best I've found.
Thank you so much! 🙏 I found I love making videos, and I think I am slowly improving my filming and editing, over time. From 0 experience to some experience, living and learning 😆
I missed to write that one should not even think of renting a car to drive in Cairo!!! For foreigners that is possible after 11PM and Friday mornings when there is no trafic. Any other time the trafic is very chaotic! I don't think that an average tourist has skills to drive in Cairo. In addition, tourists are in Cairo for fun, not to be stressed while driving. Using Uber is, also, probably more economical.
People can rent a car if they want, I think they should know it's at their own risk. Most people do not want to anyways. I drive a motorcycle here but I've gotten into a few accidents 🤣

thank you for mentioning that canadians are no longer able to obtain a visa upon arrival in egypt. i had no idea. i guess the rules have changed since october 1, 2023 in response to canada denying visas for many egyptian citizens. in order to obtain one, i would have to mail in an application to the egyptian consulate in canada, which must include the flight information to and from egypt, my accommodation booking info (much of which i would have done while in egypt on my planned three week stay), my past employment history (even though i’ve been retired for over ten years), in addition to mailing in my passport, as well as $150 non-refundable. and after all that, the visa could still be denied without explanation. if approved, the visa would be good for 90 days for a stay of no more than 30 days. the last thing i want to do is book everything and then apply for the visa only to have it denied. this reeeeeeally sucks.
I think you wouldn't have any problems. I'm on many different Egypt FB groups and have seen plenty of comments from Canadians such as yourself asking or worrying about their visas, but I've never heard of someone being denied. You're right, Egypt did implement this new rule in retaliation for the visa rules for their own citizens to go to Canada, but the likelihood of being denied is very low, it's just a pain in the ass for Canadian citizens and that is what they wanted. Maybe hop on some FB groups and ask this question yourself, I am sure you'll hear back from some people telling about their own experience. Like I said, it's just a pain in the ass and you have to plan further in advance, but it's absolutely still possible for Canadians to come visit Egypt, I have met some myself here since that new rule was enacted. Good luck!
@@Gventures thanks. perhaps you’re right. the way i see it, i have two options. 1) book my flight and the hotel in cairo for the first few days as planned, fly there, and hope i don’t get denied upon entry, or 2) fill out the application answering all that is required, pay the nonrefundable fee, and include the priority post stamped return envelope, and again, hope that it’s not refused. i read of a man and his family where he was refused with no explanation, but assumes it’s because he was ex-military and is now a police officer…someone who is more closely associated with the canadian government. in my case, i’m concerned i could possibly be refused on my application because of egypt’s debauchery law. on my past employment history, i would have to mention that i was manager of an adult store (aka pornography store) for 15 years. probably it would be okay, but again, i don’t want to spend thousands of dollars beforehand only to have to cancel and in all likelihood, pay a penalty. i may just have to hold off for now and hope the situation changes in the near future, hopefully before the 2027 solar eclipse in luxor, which i really want to experience. in the meantime…🎶california here i come…🎶 maybe i’ll just go to los angeles and see beck at the hollywood bowl in july. it’s no pyramids, but sometimes you gotta take what you can get.

You are great Dear❤🎉 you disiscribing Egypt more than Egyptian And forcing the world to visit Egypt, you are respectable to us.! (Q) in Giza pyramid they not accept cash n I don't have any card so what's alternate solution?
Thank you! Uh, are you Egyptian? Your name looks Turkish to me 😅 Or could it be Indian....🤔 I can't figure it out, let me know 😆 If you are Egyptian then you don't need a card you are allowed to pay in cash. But for foreigners, you must pay with a card. I don't know, if you don't have a card, maybe they would make an exception...? But the ticket office is very busy, not sure the guys behind the desk will be very patient with you. The other option is to get one of the guys on the streets to buy your ticket for you (they come up to you trying to get you into the complex, trying to sell you camel rides, etc.) I prefer not to deal with those guys as they are just trying to get money out of you and will try and scam you by charging you high prices, but it's an option. The other option would be to ask another foreigner in line with you to buy your ticket, and you give them the cash for it. Honestly though, I would try to get a card before going on your trip! The pyramids are not the only site forcing foreigners to pay with card, they also do this at the Egyptian Museum, Cairo Citadel, and many, many other ancient sites, from what I have been hearing.

Another great video. There was talk of a metro station at the airport which was under construction with the intention of providing direct metro access to the city center. Any news or update on this front? It must have been around two (?) years ago when I had read about this new project. Thanks!
No, no such metro at the airport. There is one OUTSIDE of the airport now, but it's really far away, no at all accessible from the airport (it's a 2 hour walk from the terminal 1 to the El Nozha the nearest metro station 😆). You'd 100% have to take a taxi to get to the metro station, which charges you the airport fees, so one is better off just getting an Uber or taxi to their destination and skipping the metro altogether. They SHOULD have built it leading directly into the airport, but nay.

Hi
This is Sean from Canada.
How do america citizens get visa?
@@marsheabyars3989 Get a visa to Egypt? I literally talk about it in this video 😆 It's one of the first things I mention
@@Gventures I got confused with you saying and the website saying another thing 🤷🏾♀️
@@marsheabyars3989 I'm not sure what website you are talking about. But I just got a visa on arrival not long ago after coming back from a trip
Thanks. You are so honest and we appreciate it.

Great! Thanks for watching, and glad to hear it helped! 😁

Thanks! I love your videos. Keep up the good work!

Your name looks Turkish to me 😅 Or could it be Indian....🤔 I can't figure it out, let me know 😆
If you are Egyptian then you don't need a card you are allowed to pay in cash. The pyramids are not the only site forcing foreigners to pay with card, they also do this at the Egyptian Museum, Cairo Citadel, and many, many other ancient sites, from what I have been hearing.
thanks for your reply and so nice advice!
