I really hope the car community takes to this vehicle more, even though it doesn't have a manual. the IS is so good looking. Ready for Friday’s episode! I dig the IS500; I don’t really mind some of it’s dated characteristics. I love that color, too. It hasn’t occurred to me that it is the color from the LC500. Those seats look comfortable. I’m far more of a GT car fan than a pure sports car fan and I just realized how this car fits the bill perfectly. I’m never going to be one to go to the track or auto cross, but having access to that ample power and acceleration and great interior comfort as I eat up the miles is definitely seductive.
Really well thought out review Matt 👍 You guys are lucky to have this USDM exclusive IS500 - there seems to be no plans for these to be available in Japan, let alone Europe! That induction noise is sonorous, reminds me of the M3 E90 generation with its V8.
Great review Matt. Thanks so much for covering the IS500. We are so fortunate that this car exists. I had a 2011 ISF for several years, and absolutely loved it. After upgrading the intake, headers, and exhaust, it sounded like a cross between an AMG and a muscle car. I do miss that car sometimes. Have a great weekend.
I appreciated the Charger Scat Pack comparison to this car. In June I sold my daily driver 2016 Scat Pack with over 100k miles to take advantage of the supply/demand opportunity. I loved the car but love money more. The car had zero issues and put a smile on my face every time I drove it. IMO the 500 is a polished, upscale, high quality Charger. I am ordering this car because it is a V8, rear wheel drive, comfortable, GT that sounds great. Sound sells. Compared to the Charger (my reference point) I am expecting greater refinement, reliability and a resale value when I sell it. I visited two local Lexus dealerships and was told they can order the car for me at MSRP with zero markup. They have the Limited Edition versions on the floor at MSRP. Matt, thanks for the quality video and keep up the good work!
If only Lexus would sharpen up the transmission so there's less lag between the paddle shift and the actual gear shift, and make the breaks and accelerator travel less, and, of course, replace the track pad with a dial or a small storage space, this car would be so much improved. I was seriously considering it, but I ended up going for the BMW M440 xDrive Coupe because of the flaws with the Lexus I just mentioned. Lexus, I hope you're reading these comments from potential customers. UA-cam is a goldmine of feedback for designers.
I want to see future Lexus products with this 5.0L v8. Imagine how much better that would be not only to cater to enthusiasts but also make it more premium over the mainstream Toyota counterpart
Lexus is going full electric, bro, much less using this V8 in the future. 🤣 Japan is mandating all new vehicles to be electric by 2025; so yeah, V8... 🤣
@Asian sex symbol you mean coal or natural gas powered. Anyone buying electric because they think they're "helping the environment" needs to take a deep dive into how the overwhelming amount of electricity is produced.
I just picked up my LC500 and I'm all smiles. Ive smoked a new F Type and a new Scat pack 6.7L all at stops and he was creeping on the red... THE DAY WAS MINE!!!! both times both days. And I look and sound good doing it. LOL
The only new sedans currently sold in the United States that offer a naturally aspirated (non-turbo or non-supercharged) V8 are the Lexus IS 500, Genesis G90, Dodge Charger, and Chrysler 300.

From what I've read, car prices are not going to be going back to 2019 levels anytime soon----if ever. Especially the premium brands; they are really enjoying the super high prices they are getting and the lesson in "managing demand" has reached the C-level suite. They aren't going to overbuild anymore; they will build just enough to keep the prices where they want them. Think of OPEC and oil production. Every day I flip flop over getting the CT4-V BW or this. Neither will depreciate much, if at all. If I had the money for both I'd get both but that manual trans in the Caddy seals the deal. I love this though!
What a beautiful car and great review Matt! Even though it might not be the fastest, I'd take this waaaaaaaaay before an S4 or M340i for the same price.
@japanwatchconnection If you want to go fast, M340i for sure. If you want a V8 that sounds amazing and much much better reliability, IS500 all the way.
A ZF in this car would make it a no brainer. Unfortunately, the transmission is a very important part of a performance sedan. The lack lustre gearbox kills it for me.

Thoughts on how this compares to an S4? I’ve got a 2018 and am considering trading for this. I know it’s an older platform but that engine is tempting.
I want a white Lexus IS500 F Sport Performance with black rims and 10% window tinting for the exterior and then white seats for the interior. Hopefully once I graduate college I will be able to get my hands on one, hopefully a 2024/2025 IS500🙏🏼
What a fantastic machine. There are naysayers, screw them. It's amazing that Lexus put this car on the road with such a limited audience. That tells me that Toyota/Lexus in the face of a hybrid/ev world, which they are a big part of, can also say that they know there are people, like me, that love the fact that cars like this exist. Lexus is my new go to company since Honda dumped the V6 coupe and manuals. I've been a Honda geek since 1992, but Honda has devolved into "just another car company".
So, in your opinion, if anyone calls out limitations in this car they are naysayers? If you like the car, that's great. Just because you like it doesn't mean that's it's perfect nor than anyone else's opinion is somehow less valid than yours.

Curious as to if that engine note was piped in like they do in the BMW? Sounds a bit inauthentic. Anyway, beautiful car, great review. No moonroof though? Even my old GS350 got a moonroof!🤷🤔
Isn't every car piped in?
@@glennnichols4220 I am starting to think that. Especially now with all the sound deadening materials they use and thick glass.
Definitely a sleeper. You don't expect this stuff from a Japanese car company.
you forget the glorious sounding CT5-V blackwing
Swan song for ICE before full electrification
I am just so happy this car exist - that’s what Doug exactly said about that car in his Lexus review ? Do you copy him ?
@19:15 Great review overall but it’s important to note that this is a press vehicle that has gotten a lot of abuse from other auto journalists so its braking performance could be affected by that. It could probably use some maintenance by now.
True, it definitely could have worn out brakes, I'd have to drive another one to know for sure. As always, I just report on how things feel to me.
Brakes are worn out? 🤣
For the money, I am leaning towards the CT4 V BW (admittedly base spec), just because it has the manual, MR suspension, and Alpha chassis. The V8 engine though is a big equalizer at this price point.
trash reliability compared to the lexus, thats the main point of this car while still having great power and everything else.
@@pope9349 Most cars are relatively reliable nowadays (especially if u exclude infotainment woes). More performance does bring more tech to go wrong but not heard of many issues with Caddie.
