      @@maryshores6818 Compared to prismacolor they last alot longer. In the time I've used them I havent had any points shatter, that i can recall. Only one point broke while sharpening, in fact they broke a sharpener on me lol. They also hold their points much longer. In the long run, they are cheaper to use than prisma and perform better, just harder to blend. I would buy a smaller set or try a few open stock. Some people prefer the more crayon like nature of prismas. These feel like they sit inbetween Polys and Prismas. Plus the lower total set count means youll be mixing colors more often, which I personally prefer to do.

    I have a question:
    I do botanical art
    - which colored pencil set is better for such kind of art?
    I want to decide between the derwent lightfast set of 100 or the caran'dache PABLO set of 120?
    At first I thought the lightfasts, cause of their creamy Buttery consistance, but they are also be able to hold their point (I heard) - but then I saw their COLOUR RANGE! And even they are 100 colored pencils , there are so few LIGHT and BRIGHT colours, the most colours are muted and in the darker range...thats also VERY BEAUTIFUL , but is it the RIGHT choise for a botanical and flower artist?
    The Pablos -I dont know much about them, only that they are firmer then the lightfasts, near to the polychromos. And there colour range is MUCH brighter.
    So I THINK the colour range of the Pablos would be MUCH BETTER- but I am afraid that the consistancy of the Lightfasts would be more mine. Altough my favorit colored pencil brand at the moment is faber castell polychromos- I like them more as the Prismacolor and I think even more than the Luminance!
    What DO YOU personally think?
    There is a big sale at the moment and the sets of this 2 brands are included- so the time to decide is running of 🙈
    You re answet would REALLY helps me!!!❤

      Being completely honest here, I have both sets but haven't had the time to use the lightfast much, so I can't answer this question competently.
      Both sets have a wide range of greens, purples, and blues. They're not lacking there, BUT depending on if you like mixing color or not, the light fast is lacking in brighter oranges and vibrant pinks. The Lightfast set has a slightly truer red and better white pencil imo.
      As far as quality goes? The Pablos are excellent, and I have no complaints at all. I have noticed some oddities with sharpening the Derwents, but I'm not sure if it's me, the sharpener, or the pencils.
      If you prefer softer pencils, Pablos may not be your jam. But be aware, Derwent Lightfast pencils do not have a consistent feel, some are soft like Prismacolor while others feel like a Polychromos.
      Sorry this isn't a direct recommendation, but I dont want to mislead you.

      @@VexedSinikArt you help me so much wirh your answer!
      THANKS for answering so detailed and quickly!!
      The last very Important question I have:
      What other brand can you compare the paint application and paint abrasion of the Pablos to? Or different brands? So, for example, are they exactly as hard and firm as the Polychromos, or can they just hold their point as well as these and are actually as soft as the Luminance? (as an example)
      And even if you haven't tried them often, it would be great if you also tried to describe the color abrasion of the Lightfasts. So only if it doesn't cause any problems, of course!

      @Ninja-cf1od Very welcome.
      Pablos, from my experience, are somewhere between prisma and poly. Closer to poly but not as hard, but hold as decent point if you have a light hand and apply smoothly even though they feel dry until burnishing. They are not as soft as Luminance.
      Lightfast, from my limited use range in feel. Some are dry and sometimes feel a little scratchy while others are comparable to how Luminace feels. It's very strange and varies from color to color. Its really one of those things where you have to judge each pencil on its own and be aware of the feel while you're using them. A swatch or scratch sheet is necessary as well. The barrels and leads do not match the color they produce.
      Edit: in short, the derwent are not user friendly and I wouldn't recommend them to a begginer. I think someone who has some experience with layering, mxing, blending, and using pencils would be fine once they adjust.

    You get a thumbs down for your click bait thumbnail asking if they're worth $415 while you paid under $200 for the full set. The video is good, but I can't appreciate being lured into watching by something like that. No, they're not worth $415 and no one would pay that for them. They're great colored pencils if you like this kind of colored pencils. I prefer softer ones, I get alone with them better. I had the first release 120 box from back in the late 80's and the price was $60. Quite a difference with today's prices. Sold mine recently to another art studio who paid me triple the amount I paid. Used the money to buy a 72 set of Prismacolor Premier and a 72 set of Derwent Coloursoft, as well as a 72 set of Derwent Chromaflow on sale at, yes Amazon.

    • @VexedSinikArt
      @VexedSinikArt  6 місяців тому

      $415 was the MSRP at the time. If I'm not mistaken, it's a little lower now. Not everyone can get them for the price I got them at the time, which was a sale. I gave two opinions in the video. One on the price I paid, and one on the MSRP.
      I just recently got a set of Derwent Lightfast on a good sale, would it be ethical to review those as though they were always $250 and not the 400+ MSRP or 300/350+ they typically sell for?

    • @benjamina6915
      @benjamina6915 6 місяців тому

      @@VexedSinikArt You're MSRP seems way too high, Pablo's aren't in that price range. They have a lower price point than Lightfast or Luminance has, yes those might sell for those prices, but not Pablo's, unless you want a wooden box. MSRP is always too high, a set of 100 Derwent Lightfast is priced around €265 here and that's pretty much the same price you can get them for in the US. Yes, not reviewing those for MSRP prices would be ethical, since MSRP prices aren't realistic, unless the customer enjoys being ripped off.

    • @VexedSinikArt
      @VexedSinikArt  6 місяців тому

      Sorry, but my MSRP is not way too high, that was the MSRP and they were regularly selling over 300. Places like Micheals and some vendors on Amazon do use the MSRP. Not everyone has a Blick or Jerrys.
      I'm sorry reviewing them at the MSRP and Sale price bothers you, but it wasnt clickbait ad thats what I delivered in the video. Have a good day :)
