So as a owner operator I disagree. I would rather deal with issues personally. I have a repair tech. But I have issues letting someone answer my calls, I am really picky about the jobs I look at. We are strictly commercial flat and metal. Either replace, repair or coat. I have tried hiring someone to replace me but I don’t think they exist!

That’s one way to live the life. What will happen if you lose your voice for 3 months? Gonna shut down? Sounds like you don’t have the business, you have full time job, and it’s ok, nothing wrong with having high paying job, just don’t call it a business.

I totally understand where you're coming from...if your business fails, it won't be caused from others you've in-trusted to take care of the things you are good at. But the downside to running a business this way is you will be stretched way too thin. The bigger the business gets the more you'll start to sacrifice in areas to maintain your work load.

Owner operating is 40% profit also generate and select his leads (like me) 30 sq and up only

@@darrincoy9361 The scenario he is describing is different. Contrary to the perception of him losing his voice, it’s evident with absolute certainty that individuals like Mr. Lipinsky retain diverse business portfolios, multiple revenue streams, significantly higher earnings, and the freedom to pursue their genuine passions instead of solely focusing on lucrative employment. Rest assured, his financial stability remains the same even if he loses his voice or he is faced with multiple setbacks. The question again is what would happen if the owner-operator becomes unable to continue their work?" Who takes care of his/her customers? How can he solve the challenge?
The essence lies not in agreement or disagreement but in acknowledging the distinction between a business enterprise and a well-compensated job. Mr. Lipinsky represents a diversified business portfolio, while your position aligns more with a well-paid job. This fundamental contrast delineates the difference between entrepreneurial, managing ventures and employment scenarios and their respective mentalities. It's very interesting to read the different approaches the model takes as it transitions between individuals within a very old trade. Happy and prosperous 2024 !!

Just left a homeowners house that said they were watching your videos prior to me coming by! It was so funny to me because you are who I’ve watched over the past few years when I first started learning the business. Even funnier the homeowner shares my first name! I told that homeowner “we have the same name and same roofing mentor, we’re twins just 20 years apart!” 🤣

The scope of this challenge extends beyond mere logistics. Assuming the role of an owner-operator and doing everything yourself hinges greatly on the mindset. A successful business owner must embody a triad of mentalities. Without this synergy, the role of an owner-operator can inadvertently transform into an all-consuming occupation leaving the individual without time to think. Contrary to the popular belief, healthy-giving time (and not money) is the biggest asset we have. The owner operator job at best might yield a well-compensated position, yet it may fall short of establishing a truly sustainable business. In other words, the person has a job not a business and hence it is destined to crash in the better of cases.
Mr. Lipinsky completely understands the contentions of the roofing industry and is willing to share his knowledge with people for a tiny amount of earnings for himself. Worth the try, in my opinion.

The industry is sooo saturated in my area. The prices have been driven so low its almost required to use subs instead of in house. In the Hampton Roads area it's better to start in repair and restorations. It infuriates me that folks are selling asphalt shingle 50yr warranties knowing damn well they are not going to last 50yrs. I kick myself every day for not franchising with roof max a year ago when it was only 17k. With the economy the way it is for our area I would go that route first then go from there. Roof max is just about the only product of its kind that I've seen work. There is a green roof one that I'm trying to get my hands on to see if it's similar to roof maxx. Love the vids Dimitri. Just about the only legit roofing program out there. Thank you.

Roofer from Alaska here, Ukrainian actually! Been in the roofing business for 3 years and want to get official and start my own business. Very different environment here, we don’t have a lot of roofers to hire and warehouses for rent that are affordable. It’s such a tough climate that you can’t keep new hires around all the time. I’m trying to break out of the mentality that I’ll just do all the work for the first while and maybe find some help. Because I wana get big and grow fast. Maybe some different tactics are needed for this state

I'm an owner operator in my 20s, and I feel like I have a really good thing going. Generally I'll have about .75 employees throughout the year, and have a $500 monthly housing expense, and no debt. I've been warned about the difference between owning the company, and having the company own me. I don't want to create a monster. Over the last ten years, I've just been building slow and steady. I have 2 equipters, and take care of myself with a massage chair and weekly massage and feel great. This last year I did just under half a million in revenue- if I get to keep 20-35% I feel what I'm doing is a decent option. Convert the capital into passive income funds like JEPI, and it seems to be a smooth sailing model.

Do you think it will significantly affect the roofing and construction industry? Would love to hear your thoughts or even see a dedicated video on this topic!

Hmmm, I don't know. I still know a few owner/operator roofing companies out there who've been around a while. There are a lot of Karen's, but there's no more then any other time. Everyone grew up with the mean lady down the street, or grumpy Bob. It's nothing new.
I think the issue is that owner/operators who try to start today weren't raised with the same emotional fortitude that people were in the past. Safe rooms, emotional support animals, non-confrontational child rearing... it's weakened society in general, and aspiring owner/operators are no exceptions. So owner/operators don't go out of business because people are meaner than ever, but because people are softer than ever. They can't handle the negative long enough to build anything positive.
Not saying that there aren't owners/operators who are going out of business because they refuse to hire people to help with the workload, because there are. But I believe that the owner/operator model is still viable.
