    Boy the past days are the best days for Shaw Brothers and Kung fu fans. Also hopefully we get more Shaw brothers from 88 films beside the three but great film line up either way.

      I think I mentioned in the video that these are the first of 12? Or so the rumour goes. Fingers crossed. More sales, more films! Any titles in particular you are hoping for?

    88 Films really does do these single editions justice. I do wish they carried on with Kung Fu Bob with the exclusive artwork on the Shaws. But either way, This is Amazing news regardless....... New HD Shaw Brothers Releases make me Extremely Happy and Excited. Great content as always Mate 👍🥋👊☯️🐲🔥🐉🙏‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

      Thank you so much! And yes we also would have loved some more Kung Fu Bob. His style fits Shaw Brothers so perfectly. However, I am blown away by the To Kill a Mastermind cover!

    Nice to see that Taiwanese DVD of Shadow Boxer! I've got the exact same one in my own collection, plus quite a few others from there as they're identical to the HK versions. 👍 Props once again for showing your willingness to get your movies wherever you could back in the day - a true hunter! With Celestial releasing something like 700+ of these back in the day, you'd think there'd be few people who haven't seen, heard of, or collected them yet (other than newcomers to the films, of course). They were so plentiful, especially the HK editions, and while I'm grateful for all the UK and US releases we've been treated to these past several years, the reality is that it barely covers maybe 1/8 of the entire Shaw catalog that was released in the early 00s. Obviously, a lot of those films won't get released over here (comedies, musicals, dramas), but there is still a staggering number of martial arts and action titles you and I probably both have on Celestial DVDs and/or VCDs (not to mention all the gems buried solely in my Ziieagle player!) that may be years away from upgraded physical releases, if ever. Oh well, we takes what we gets! 😄

      @@HongKongandBeyond They’re not bad, actually. Most are in the ballpark of the DVDs or in some cases maybe a bit lesser, though not as low as VCDs. I’ve heard dissenting opinions over the years, but based on the few I watched and the many others I skimmed through, I felt it was a good investment then, and would probably still try to get one now if I didn’t have this one. They’re not Blu-ray quality, of course, but they’re very watchable.
      There ARE two caveats though, the biggest being the fact that it was released in ridiculously conservative Singapore, so some of the ‘stronger’ movies are trimmed for excessive bits despite the company rep telling me otherwise (and the cuts seem arbitrary, because often they’ll leave in moments of nudity or gore while reducing others). I’d say the vast majority of the comedies, dramas, romances, spy movies, musicals, operas, and even many of the action and martial arts pictures aren’t censored at all. And as mentioned, there’s a lot of movies on this thing that we’ll never see in the west, and a couple hundred were never even released on DVD or VCD by Celestial, so for the latter, the box may be the only chance to own/see them outside of, maybe, a Chinese streaming service (and I’m doubtful old Shaw movies would get enough views that way to justify making them available to stream).
      The other caveat is the fact that the player is basically a hard drive, so there’s always the fear that it will just crap out some day. I recall reading that someone years ago figured out how to port the contents to a backup drive, but I doubt I’d have the skills or tech to try that. So I use it sparingly, and mostly keep it stored on the box in a cool closet.
      The do turn up on eBay on very rare occasions, sometimes brand new, in case your curiosity about all of the not-on-disc movies contained within! 😉 And there’s still a “legacy” FB page for them, which I recall is how I tracked mine down years ago.

    Cheers for the shout out mate, honestly as I said this is purely me guessing, but it could happen. I actually think if it does appear we should be prepared to manage our disappointment, Chang Cheh hadn't refined his craft, it's very early in Shaw brothers venture into wuxia and Jimmy Wang Yu hadn't developed as an actor. For all we know Spectrum may release one of his early non - wuxia titles, but let's hope not.

      Who knows but when you presented the evidences/clues, it seemed like a very possible fit. Whatever the result, hopefully it made for an interesting video 😉

    It's very, very exciting speculation. Not a big fan of Golden Lotus myself (none of the movies about Jin Ping Mei focus on much more than the sex, and the novel is an epic masterpiece, like if Dream of the Red Chamber was populated only by twisted people), but I'd buy this set for the other titles. Thanks for sharing!

    Hey mate, I love the channel and your content. I am wondering if you recognise a lost rare Kung Fu/Martial Arts film I am searching for. It had this very well-built Asian man, either a fully shaved head or a chomage hair with a long braid and the blade in it. Or long black hair with a hidden braid with a long black braid. He would hide a blade in it, and was wearing black leather gaunlets and long black pants and would whip it around in a capoeira or wushu style of fighting style and kill other fighters by catching them in the throat with the blade. I remember a menacing scene of him entering the arena or fight area through like a prison cell door and he went to sit down and watch some deathmatches between other fighters in this fight to the death tournament. When he fought, he would use the momentum of his dancing fighting style to cut up fighters and would land and catch other fighters in the throat. Pretty sure it was some kumite tournament movie in some almost prison like environment that was torchlit and the fighters would fight on a sandpit with a black cage surrounding them. I think it was 80s or 70s. The movie was very violent and very brutal. Would love your input! I have more info if needed ro mate. Thanks mate!

      Hi there, thanks for the kind words! The film you are describing sounds very much like American Samurai. Although that gimmic was also used in Best of the Best 2 and a handful of other movies. Perhaps look those up first, if they aren't the film you're looking for let me know and I'll have another think 😉

    • @DoomSlayerEythyn
      @DoomSlayerEythyn Місяць тому +1

      @HongKongandBeyond Hey mate, thanks for the reply it is definitely not those 2 films. I've put a few detailed posts on different reddit pages about the film to and I've had well over 15 people who have recognised it and remember seeing it on either TV or rented it from the video store in the 90s. I saw it on late might TV in Aus in the early 2000s. I believe from memory that the main protagonist (hero) is searching for someone or something and he's like some DEA or special forces agent. He ends up captured and then is forced to fight in these illegal barefist deathmatches. The only guy that has a weapon and who cheats is the main villain, who is the Asian ponytail guy. Very well built menacing looking with a fu man chu facial hair to. I have a feeling this movie was more 80s or late 70s. This is why I thought it might’ve been an Asian or Hong Kong film. It's so hard to find lol! Been searching for it for years!
