    Our Story:
We are six years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is
to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living
has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our
    journey!

Piney Grove progress is taking longer and costing more nowadays, but we are excited to get one of our 2022 goals started with this video. To see our basic pole barn get built, check out this link: ua-cam.com/video/3ZBHDY4cBKk/v-deo.html

Man, this pole barn is going to be so nice! The extra attention to wind strength is impressive. We don’t have quite the concern here. Really interesting to watch!

Thanks Lucas. It might be overkill, but we really don't want to have to repair or rebuild if a strong storm blows through. 🤞Just need some corn growing in the background!!

I believe the story!! I lived it in my right shin! 😂😂😂. Hurt like h*ll,,,,. Hurt worse the next day!! Hurt sitting, standing, laying down so I kept working. Eventually (2weeks later) I went to the doctor because my foot was purple. Everything was ok actually, but he wanted to put a cast on me to allow for the bone and some small fractures around the puncture wound to heal up. I agreed to a removable walking cast. It healed up fine. I don’t wish it on anyone else. I suspect if that was a 22 caliber round the pain would have been similar, but much harder than using a hammer and 1x2 to pull it out!!😂😂.
I like the project! ThAnks for sharing, Eh!

Do you have any videos of you finishing the ceiling leaving it vaulted with the black iron exposed? That’s what I’m thinking of doing and need some ideas for insulating and finishing it correctly. Probably boards on the ceiling.

Check out Kelley's Country Life on UA-cam....he did what you are talking about. He documented his house build every step of the way. Tell him Piney Grove sent you over!

Were you required to use steal trusses or was that optional? I will be enclosing mine as well and have always loved that wood look on the open trusses. Did code require you to use steal trusses? Will you have a financial break down of the build?

It's an enclosed workshop, so it's not built to habitable code. Pole barns and barndominiums in this area are built with metal trusses (generally). Thanks for watching.

Did you need footers on the large open end wall? I'm building a pole barn hangar and I'm about to start framing in. Not sure if I need to cut the concrete at the back wall to put large posts and footers and tie them into the trusses or if I can just frame in. It's 50' wide and 16' to the eves.

We did footers to anchor the post from wind load and also to build our end wall. Here is that video: ua-cam.com/video/2NNQnPaPG7U/v-deo.html Thanks for watching.

Love what you are doing! We just bought 8 acres in Santa Rosa county near Jay, Fl. We would like to look at your pole barn sometime and work shop. Just need ideas on what we want to do. If this is alright with you?

It's something we would have liked to do, but we don't have the time with full-time jobs over an hour away. It would take us weeks just to gather the material!! And probably 6 months to build it. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb
