Xeloda is the pill version of 5-FU and you take it twice a day. A single dose has no side effects, but over time, side effects like hand and foot peeling, diarrhea, fatigue, sensitivity to sun and on rare occasions heart damage can be present.

The pill version of 5-FU is called Capecitabine or Xeloda, it's the same drug, but it's in pill form. You take it twice a day, usually two, three, four pills twice a day, after breakfast, after dinner.
Any single dose that you take, take it, no side effects, zero side effects. A week's worth, generally zero side effects, no real side effects. It's not for a month or so that they start to build up. What you can get is some peeling and cracking on your hands and feet, can get some mouth sores, occasionally some diarrhea. Fatigue is part of it sensitivity to the sun is one of the side effects. Rarely can you get bad GI side effects or bad problems with your bone marrow.
In general, pretty well-tolerated medicine. A rare side effect is a heart side effect, so if you are noticing some shortness of breath, pain radiating up into your neck, make sure you tell your doc about that.
Oral 5-FU Capecitabine, Xeloda, pretty easy alternative to the IV pump form, the two most commonly given forms of 5-FU

I’ll be starting this medication soon. I had horrible side effects with Tykerb. I’m hoping my body can tolerate Xeloda 🤞🤞

My Dr had me on 2500mg twice a day for a total of 5grams daily. after 8 days I had serious side effects that linger after 2 weeks of not taking the drug. Seems I may have been given to much of a dose

Tolerable, yes ride in the park that he makes it out to be? not my experience!

My mother had horrible GI toxicity and side affects after taking this medicine for about 8 days in her first chemo cycle for rectal carcinoma........that led to her hospitalization for a week and delay in her cancer treatment........she has been asked to stop this medicine, and radiation therapy is next for her
