Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This song was performed in Buenos Aires in 2012, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an wild audience. At the moment, Floor Jansen was in the band for about 2 and a half months, joining them in the middle of an world tour, replacing the previous female singer who couldn't perform anymore.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

As the list already mentions, Nightwish is a mix of heavy metal with folk (influenced by 3rd and the Mortal from Norway), doom (influenced by My Dying Bride), thrash (influenced by Metallica), power metal (Stratovaius) and movie soundtracks (Tuomas is a Disney fan).

This concert was just weeks after Floor had joined the band in the middle of a tour, as the previous singer had suddenly departed.
The other members of NightWish quickly learned that Floor was the best thing to ever happen to them.
Amazing that she is singing a song that was written for a previous singer, yet just weeks after joining she is performing it this epically.
You owe it to yourself to see her performance of the song just 8-9 months later at Wacken 2013. Legendary

Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves +. When listening to Floor sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres, and is a Master vocal coach. She often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. Less than a year later, she and Nightwish, in 2013, would record the best concert, by any band, of all time, at Wacken Open Air at 2013.

You should also watch Ghost Love Score from Wacken 2013! This is also very good version of this song, but wacken one is the legendary and most popular version and in my opinion still the best version that exists of Ghost Love Score.
And the one from Tampere is different again & it's all good!
Also the one from the Wembley concert. Can't go wrong no matter which show you choose! Though, yes, Wacken is definitely perfection and magical, and my favorite!

And yes again a soul is taken by our Dutch Valkyrie Goddes of Metal, more Floor Jansen, watch the Beste Zangers 2019, she sings in different styles and different languages. She sings O Mio Babbino Caro and from the gamecube game Final Fantasy Chronicals, Sound of the Wind. She working on different projects of Ayreon too, Valley of the Queens and The Day The World Break Down are good ones to start with..
Some context: Floor Jansen had only been with the band for 11 weeks when this was performed. She joined the band mid tour when their previous singer was fired. She had 48 hours to learn the setlist. Floor added the vocal ending to this song as previously it just tailed off and the original singer left the stage at around the 13:17 mark of your video. If I'm correct, this was the first time she performed this ending.

@@randymarple9830 Thanks, I didn't know that version existed. She has only been with the band nine days and she's already pushing the boundaries of the music. We can hear the rough edges in this version that have been well smoothed out a few weeks later in Buenos Aires.
I wish we could have had a reaction from the band members during this period.

There is also cellphone footage from a subsequent concert in Costa Rica which shows clearly that Nightwish was definitely changing the ending, most likely at the behest of Floor. This was common wisdom on the sadly defunct fanbased Nightwish forum, but they lost the forum database and were unable to recover.
Floor has also changed the lyric in two places. The official lyric "brings me to thee" is always sung by Floor as "brings me to tears", for example.
@@billattercliffe8655 Imagine how they felt, especially Tuomas, knowing so many of his masterpieces could be played again...LIVE. You can see it in his face and his smiles. I think that's why Wacken 2013 is my favorite concert. They ALL are so happy and pumped up. And the evolution of the band has been amazing as well. Actually! She was with nightwish 8 months when at Wacken. She started to the tour in Seattle. This doesn't take away from how amazing this performance was in front of the largest crowd she ever performed in front of to that point. 82k people. And really 8 months is a short time to develop when touring getting to know to the members of the band. Learning and putting her own mark on someone else's recorded vocals. In fact this performance at Waken is the first time she did it with her own version. Please check facts before spreading legendary tales. What she has accomplished is legendary enough in fact it's incredible without having to add anything to it just look at the truth please

The Wacken Festival is much better, and in my opinion, the sound is much better also! Plus, you get to view what it is like to perform in front of 82,000+ people who are Nightwish fans! I found Nightwish a little over 2 years ago, and I listen to them constantly! And I am 64 years old! I grew up listening to the greats of Rock & Roll, Hard Rock, & Heavy Metal! Now I listen to Symphonic Metal quite a bit. There are other Symphonic Metal bands...one of my favorites is Within Temptation. A couple of my favorites of theirs are

@@SingwithEmmatoday Please do. The fact that is that it is arguably Floor's best performance of this song is only part of the reason. The best reason is that the 2013 Wacken concert was being professionally recorded for DVD release. The visual and audio production is superb, and the venue and stage are huge.

Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6)
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.

They happen frequently when listening to this band, and also with so many of Floors solo and side projects. Floor had only been with the band 4 months. The "note" is something she came up with. This is the first time fans got to hear Floor's ending. Obviously crowd loved it.
When this was recorded Floor had only been in the band for 10 weeks Her first show was october 2nd and this was December 14th

This is an epic journey that gives you a feel for what they do, what they are capable of. The 2013 Wacken performance of this song is most often watched and has a little bit better sound and video quality, but this one is great too. Floor had only been with the band a couple of months at this performance. Their songs are all fairly different. Floor can sing anything seemingly effortlessly. Hope to see you watch more from this band. They will not disappoint. Enjoyed!
I LOVE this version in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2012)! I find it a bit rawer than the Wacken version (why I love it so much). It's the beginning of the "Love affair" between Floor and this fabulous Tuomas composition!!!

You will get the usual barrage saying Wacken was better, but this one is better shot with closeups and a stage cam, the audience is more involved, and this is the first time anyone heard this version.
Don't mind me, I'm just along for the eyeballs and jaws that always lie scattered on the floor after GLS.

The northern division of the Nightwish Army reporting. - "Ghost Love Score" in Wacken Open Air (Germany) 2013 concert with 82 000 people in the audience would have been a little better than this Buenos Aires 2012 (heh, I don't know how some reactors choose this, because UA-cam's first suggestion is always Wacken and that video has 27,4 mil. views and this has 5,7 mil. views), but I admit this is also amazing. Maybe you'll check out the Wacken video just by yourself later. Anyway, more Nightwish and our Valkyrie Queen please. : )

Others can tell you better than I but I believe that Floor had just joined the band for this performance. She had to learn the entire set list in just 48 hours. Since that time, she has mastered all the material and along the way made different note and style choices. Check out this same song from the 2013 live at Wacken concert and you will hear the differences. Floor is amazing!

EMMA, Since you now seem to like the symphonic heavy metal approach L approach to things like this great performance, You should listen to every track on the Black Symphony concert DVD..., by WITHIN TEMPTATION I Think each song is on UA-cam, I think there were 22 tracks from the concert DVD. A Dutch band from 1997 to present.

Hi Emma! I discover your channel with this reaction, I love Nightwish since childhood with other excellent bands like Within Temptation or Epica whose singers are really unique.
Before Floor, Tarja and Anette contributed to offer us a unique experience which places Nightwish in a very interesting evolutionary model to discover. I invite you to listen to "Ghost Love Score" with Tarja Turunen, the first singer. To discover the skills of Anette Olzon, the second singer, the song "Bye Bye Beautiful" is very appropriate. Then, Floor arrived.
I don't compare them, each one is talented and has her own style.
However, the performances of Floor differ a lot, if I remember well, she confided that she likes to bring her personalizations to each performance. For example, Floor's performance and way of singing on "Ghost Love Score" from Buenos Aires that you reacted to in this video is totally different from the version in Wacken in 2013. Again, I don't find any of them better than the other, I just completely enjoy each one. I understand that one may prefer one though.
I really recommend to discover the following singers: Simone Simons (close friend to Floor), Tarja Turunen, Sharon den Adel, Anneke van Giersbergen (inspiration for Floor) or Anna Brunner.
And you can find duets between Floor and Simone, like the performance of the band Epica on "Sancta Terra" or between Sharon and Anneke on "Somewhere" during the Black Symphony, it will give you even more things to discover.
