Lacanche French Range | An Honest Review, Design, Configurations, Installation and More

- A little story about why I selected our Lacanche range, things to consider if you’re considering one, and more! A French stove feels timeless. At the time we purchased it, it felt a little different than what you see in most American kitchens. While I found the decision-making to be a bit overwhelming and would do things a little differently if I could do it again, I love that you can configure a french stove to fit your needs.

When planning our remodel, I knew I wanted to integrate a professional range / oven, consolidating our existing wall ovens and countertop range. I had been drawn to La Cornue and seen Lacanche in the kitchens of several great designers and my friend Jennifer’s kitchen.
It fits seamlessly into our kitchen and feels understated, but elegant. To further ensure that, I had the cabinet paint color matched to the enamel sample.
What I Love About Our Lacanche Range:
-Plain and simple - the style. The brass knobs and burners make my heart sing. The grates are easy to remove to clean the cooktop and the ovens are easy to clean as well. The unlacquered brass ages beautifully.
-After the tech came out, (watch the video for more on why) I love the way the gas range cooks.
Items to Consider When Contemplating Purchasing a Lacanche Range:
-cost of freight {$1,575}
-additional cost of color {black is standard, color upgrade is $900}
-additional burners {I paid an additional $850}
-cost of installation
-time/availability. It takes 3-6 months for your range to arrive depending on the shipping method you select and lead time, so plan accordingly
the handles stick out several inches from the range, so be sure to include them in your measurements for walkways. Most cities have codes that dictate how many inches you need. - Навчання та стиль
Researching all gas ranges this really helps. When paying that price it really should be flawless in every way, you seem to have handled it so well. Your design taste is gorgeous, thanks for sharing!
Thank you! It was a big purchase, so I felt the more research the better! Have a lovely week.
Thank you, this was a very balanced review of the lacanche. Appreciate that you took the time to share the information.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for following along!
Thank you, Julie!! Very informative and helpful 💕💕💕 blessings to you and your family!!!
Thank you!
Thank you, that was very helpful! I just got mine today, in LA. I do have a company that specializes in Lacanche, so perhaps the education has made it's way around. The guy knew every single nook and cranny of Lacanche. But I have yet to use it, waiting for my electrical to be finished. But it SURE IS PRETTY!!!!!
Yay! Enjoy it!
We are excited to have our own and install it the soonest. Thanks for sharing your experience :)
How exciting! I hope you love it as much as we do :)
Thanks for sharing. For the price of this range, it should work perfectly! But it is beautiful.
Right? "Fashion" over function 😂
Julie you’re a delight! I just love you and your channel! So glad Lisa shared your channel! Someday I hope to have this range in our kitchen!
Thank you, Rachelle! That means a lot to hear! Have a lovely rest of the week!
Fantastic insights! Thanks you!
Thanks for following along! Have a lovely weekend!

You're welcome, JP! Thanks for following along!
Back in 2012, when I remodeled my kitchen, I remember Gardenweb reviewers honest opinion on a few. Lacanche, Thermador n Viking were a No No. I decided on 48” Culinarian and am so pleased.
I'm still experiencing problems - I'm told I'm among a select few, but our seal has come out again. It was a defect the year mine was purchased.
I am looking at Lecanche ranges and love the way they look - I appreciate this honest review. I will have to make sure there is a certified installer before committing to the purchase. I have a quick question about yours though. The oven on the right (the tall narrow one, not the gas- the one you referred to as an electric convection) - I thought that was a warming oven but you said you opted to not get a warming oven. I don't see any other option with Lacanche other than storage or warming oven. To what degree does this oven go? Can it go to 350? And is this "ivory" or "English Cream?" Thank you so much for posting this. It's important to know the good, the bad and the ugly before spending this much money on something.
The left is gas, the right is electric with a switch to turn it on convection. It even has a broiler. Mine is ivory.
*Christine slattfri* Amplifying what Julie Blanner wrote, it depends on which model of Lacanche range you have. On many of them, the tall "cabinet" can be either a storage space or a warming oven, but on some models the vertical cabinet can be a convection oven. The range seen in this video is very similar to the current Lacanche "Savigny 4 Feux" model, although the latter doesn't have a toggle switch to activate the convection fan.
One issue I ran into with self lighting stoves is the spark element gets coated. Light sandpaper fixes it.
Thanks for the tip!
Julie than you for such good info on this range! You said you have an Ilve for your lake house? Those are gorgeous! Do the burners take as long of a time to turn on? I know they will take longer but the question is how long. After years of burners coming on within a few seconds, I don't know how I'd like having to hold a burner for a long time. But I adore the look of the Ilve stoves!
I don’t know, unfortunately…it won’t be in until December.
I love the paneling behind the stove, what exactly is it like how did you decide on that design?
It's beadboard that resists moisture. I LOVE it. It has been used in European homes for years and I like the understated design. julieblanner.com/beadboard-backsplash/
great review. thank you! what color cabinets did you go with? was looking at the double sully and the huge sully. the cornue is so pricey i couldn’t get the big daddy.
it's a custom made color similar to Swiss Coffee, you can lean more about it here: julieblanner.com/cream-kitchen-cabinets/ ,enjoy!
It’s a magnifique range, despite its little frustrations. It is perfect in your cream kitchen!! I have a question about your island. As I mentioned in my comment yesterday about hardware, we remodeled our kitchen this fall and took our cabinets down to bare wood...all of them. 💪💪☺️. It was a huge job and while I love them bare, I am debating on putting a protective coat of something on them, but I don’t want any shine. You used Modern Masters? Is that holding up well and not changing the color? I have read about yellowing with some finishes and I never want to sand them again!! 😉. Your kitchen is truly beautiful and so cheerful and bright, cozy and inviting!! Thanks for all the details!!
I'm sorry I missed this! I did! It looks great! I've also used flat out flat at our lake house on the kitchen table. Either work well! You're too kind, I truly appreciate it!
Julie Blanner Thank you! I’m trying wax on some of them and will try your product and see what works best over time. ☺️
@@camilla6110 I'd love to hear what you like best!
I’m sorry that’s ridiculous, for that kind of money it should function properly. After your review I would never buy it! I’ll stick with my Wolf...
so do you have a pic of the refrigerater and dishwasher you went with. that is my struggle with these French ovens, getting the other appliances to look right with it. thanks
I do! You can see both here and how they fit into our kitchen - I did panel front. julieblanner.com/new-kitchen/
Julie Blanner wow, just checked out the blog post you mentioned. What a transformation!
@@VelvetandToads Thank you! It was fun to design!
I’m sorry you had so much trouble getting it adjusted. I have a friend here in Paris whose communications company used to have Lacanche as a client. Next time I see him I’ll ask about it!
Thank you! It functions a lot better now, fortunately. I hope your new year is off to a great start!
Julie Blanner Yes, celebrated in Cannes and got back an hour ago. Am chilling watching your video! Hope yours is off to a great start too.
@@VelvetandToads Wow what a great place to celebrate!
I am shopping La Canche ranges and my builder is trying to talk us out of it. : / Can you bake easily in the electric part of the oven or is that only good for cooking your roasts? Thanks for this video!! This was so helful!
I tend to agree with your builder - it depends on how you configure, but one side of mine is gas while the other electric. Unfortunately neither side appropriate broils.
How do l put the bottom pan racks right at the bottom it's a metal sheet l pulled it out can,t rambert how it goes back
Hi Julie. Can you tell me the depth of your cabinets? I am planning on 24" deep cabinets but don't want the door swing on the right side covection oven to be obstructed. Thank you.
Standard 24"!
Thank You
Lacanche looks cleaner and ‘more’ minimalist than La Cornue but I like Roquefort color from La Cornue best, I wonder if Lacanche has a similar colour?
Delft Blue is close in color.
Good Afternoon Julie,
What color are your pulls and your faucet? Were you able to match it to the color of the brass on the range?
It's known as uncoated brass, a living finish or raw brass. You can read more about it here: julieblanner.com/unlacquered-brass-kitchen-faucet/
@@JulieBlanner Thank you so much! Love it!
I can’t decide between lacanche or la cornue! And then double oven or single!!!
If I had to do it over again, I would do a double LaCornue
Lacanche or Lacrenue?
This is a Lacanche, but if I had to do it again, I would do a LaCornue
@@JulieBlannerLaCornue? $100 000???
@@JulieBlanner why? Reliability issues? Performance and functions?
I have one white 2 ovens 1 gas and 1 electric, very nice looking but…… the range are ok very comfortable for big pant and pot but the ovens are a cheap quality compare to the price of the range not easy to clean very primitive functional, I prefer to suggest other range which self cleaning ovens and more functions
Thank you, we've been happy with it so far :)
Thank you for the review...dodged a 🔫 bullet
😂 I ordered an Ilve for the lake cottage - I'm so excited. It's less expensive, beautiful, and hopefully really functional.
Geez, for the price for it to not work right out of the box… ouch
Yes, it was frustrating for sure, but it all worked out :)
