The Brutalist is the brain child of Mr Kurt Ballou, you may know him as the guitarist in Converge or producer and owner of God City Studio in Massachusetts. Although we’ve sampled a taste of this pedal in Jr form, this elder version was conceptualized first and has taken Kurt on a decade long journey to get it right. It does draw inspiration from his favorite Providence Stampede distortion but the Brutalist is armed with a powerful set of controls that set it apart from any you’ve heard before. The main distortion is akin to a cranked amp and provides excellent dynamics thanks to its 18v internal headroom from a standard 9V power supply (150mA minimum). The active 2-Band Baxandall EQ is boost only, so flat settings for Bass and Treble are actually counterclockwise but they’ve been fine-tuned to be subtle, so as to agree with both clean and dirty amps. For more extreme voicings, just activate the left footswitch to run the distortion through a Band-Pass filter (B) at the beginning of the circuit and an All-Pass Filter (A) at the output. Band-pass makes it possible to dial in cocked wah or aggressive chainsaw and its wide freq range allows the Brutalist to agree with bassists too!
Finally, the All-pass filter acts somewhat like a parked phaser and you’ll find extreme scooped sounds plus many unexpected synth textures as it interacts with various band-pass settings.
God City Instruments have teamed with Electronic Audio Experiments for the circuit layout so you know it’s a well thought out design that is ready for any application. For more info on this long awaited distortion, visit GodCityInstruments.com.

Not just another dirt pedal. This seems like a really useful tool especially for a recording studio. Nice!

So cool! The all-pass filter really gives it that Siamese Dream lead tone, like I'm hearing a doubled up recording, or the guitar speeding ahead of itself or something!

Hey thanks so much! I did double track the intro tune but yes, the filtering has a way of bringing out strange harmonics sometimes!

These will sell out fast, if they didn’t in the first hour.
He could’ve probably sold out of them at a $100 more.
It’s like a customizable Rat/Fuzz and Boss Metal Pedals, with the baxandal boost and the all pass filtering, can create a lot of interesting tones.
I’m definitely getting on the list for the next batch, if no one has one for sale new anywhere.
There’s people selling the Jr. for as much used,
