Nine year old me is freaking out and screaming that Patrick Roy is an Islander.
33 year old me is too.
THE man is back! Glad to see him in the NHL again. I'm an Avs fan, but I will watch Islanders games just to see Roy coach.
Glad he gets another crack at the NHL. Hope he does well. Not many are as competitive as Roy.
Whew... thank gawd the Senators didn't bite.
..plenty are competitive as he is...they just act like adults about it
@@googleisshit3220 they dont have the passion for the game or the same competitive drive. Roy brings out the best in his players because he shows that he care on top of having the respect of the players because of who he is and his accolades as a player himself.
Roy is a legend. Can't wait to see him involved again
he is a legendary doofus
Welcome Back To The NHL As A Head Coach Of The New York Islanders
Just bidding his time, mon ami. Getting better so he can be, Le Coach de chez Nous, et gagné numero 25!!
Salut from Montreal et
Soyon Expositives ;)
Wishing Patrick Roy the best. He is a good coach, he has high standards for players. Islanders fans better be ready for the whistles. The good thing he has worked with Varly before. Varly knows what to expect. actually can't wait till Roy reappears in Colorado again.
The fire will always be there. Very passionate. Underneath though, a pissed off easily Frenchman.
I'd like to think that the NYI just pretty guarantee themselves a spot in the playoff with that move. So happy for them and Pat.
While everyone else is talking, Lou is quietly negotiating, then "boom!" news comes out of nowhere.
Lou will give ROY the respect & the space to coach this team as he will.
Perfect spot & the perfect hire.
This is going to age like shit lmao
Lou better not micromanage.
@@ciaronsmith4995 I do not believe Roy would take a job if he would be constantly looking over his shoulder.
Brace the dividers between the benches!
Ottawa should have done this 2 years ago. The canadian teams are so damn cautious to their own detriment.
Ya I'm not even a Senators fan but Patrick would have been good for them.
Same with Montreal. Not sure he wants to go back there though.
..I have exactly zero issues with the Sens not signing him...
@@marcforget33 Can't say the Habs were being too cautious by hiring MSL... Maybe it wasn't as bold as hiring Roy but it was a risky unexpexted move.
Lou hiring Lemaire was a huge change to the Devils. But he also hired Jacques Caron and Larry Robinson. Also brought over Stephan Richer and Claude Lemieux from Montreal years prior. This also changed the Devils franchise for the next 20 years.
Roy in the NHL is a great thing. King of goalies and all time competitor.
When you hired Patrick Roy head coach of your NHL club , you don't just hired a new coach , you give the wheel to the big boy !
Roy back makes the NHL more exciting. Welcome back Crazy Patrick.
Bruce Boudreau knows a thing or two of Patrick
The greatest goalie of all time.
Amazing hire. People just want to see Roy back in the NHL, so it's a huge win for visibility and the league!
Brodeur’s currently the executive VP of the Devils
Not even close. Not even close. Roy beat Brodeur in a straight head to head when he was slightly past his peak.@@CapsBrotha
@@ciaronsmith4995 I’m aware it’s not even close. Roy finished his career with 551 wins, 2.54 GAA, .910 SV% & 66 SO. Brodeur had 691 wins, 2.24 GAA, .912 SV% & 125 SO. It’s not even close and to have better averaging GAA & SV% stats with a higher sample size just says it all. Roy’s worthy for the 2nd best goalie nomination.
3 Conn Smythes in each decade he played, 3 Vezinas, 4 Stanley Cups, 2 with each team he played with, and the pioneer of the butterfly style of goaltending. Like I said, Brodeur benefited from the trap and got exposed by Luongo in 2010. Roy was simply the greatest goalie of all time when it mattered. Not even close. And again, beat Brodeur in a straight duel during Brodeur's peak. @@CapsBrotha
@@ciaronsmith4995 Saying that Roy is the greatest goalie of all time seems similar to the false narrative of Fleury even being considered a great goalie at all in general. Fleury never had a great season until his time in Vegas, his entire time in Pittsburgh he had a mediocre GAA & SV% but got Cup accolades that weren’t at all recognized from Fleury’s play. Fleury’s always been a mediocre goalie thriving off of successful teams and never near the level of a prime Price, Holtby, Luongo, Lundqvist, Rinne in the modern era. Stanley Cups are never something rationally worthy of mentioning for comparing individual players, Stanley Cup totals are only worthy of mentioning with comparing different team franchises. Statistically the numbers prove Marty was better than Patty, Brodeur played longer too which just makes this seem too similar to the argument people try to say that Lemieux was better than Gretzky.
Hopefully some roster changes come as well.
Watching his wife walk behind him was hilarious 😂😂
After reading your comment, I watched again this moment .
Very funny indeed !
She seems a little nosy, perhaps checking if her husband wasn't chatting to a female online dating site !
Haha 😂😅😂
Yeah cause he will put her through a closet again. Roy is a psycho.
Toronto missed their boat on this. He could have been the difference maker to bring this team up another level.
Yeah, but I think he will be the Habs coach in a few years, so it was a smart move.
@@ellaella5537 that would be a surprise, he never liked montreal growing up, he got treated like shit as a player over there so i get that its the only team left in Quebec but that would be unlikely.
The massive egos of Lou and Roy will clash. Less than 2 years:💥
Why do people post stuff at such low audio level. I'm at max volume on my laptop and need to lean in to hear anything
Ohh fellas... Avs fan here... I hope hes changed lol Regardless no more boring games lol
Right up there as one of the greatest Goalies ever …
Patrick Roy is such a hot head. He can only do more damage than good for that already dysfunctional organization.
Roy is a winner. As a kid I HATED him as he beat my Kings to win the cup. I cheered when Detroit lit him up like a Christmas tree and laughed when he said he stuffed his Stanley Cup rings in his ears…the guy has charisma and compete level.
Won't be surprised when Roy eventually becomes more than just a coach for Long Island. When other teams and their corporate decision makers confuse Roy's passion and compete level with a problem, real winners recognize what it takes to win. How many Stanley Cups do Roy and Lamoriello have combined? 'Nuff said.
How many did Lou get all by himself dragging a team on his back? Patrick has done it 4 times!!!! Best keeper if all times by a million miles!!! All respect to Marty and Marc Andre.
..its OK to be passionate...most coaches are...I always laugh at people who confuse passion with acting like a pro. I look forward to his "passionate" childish meltdowns . He certainly is popular with the emotionally unstable thou.
@@googleisshit3220 yeah we dont want passion we want more emotionless political speech coaches that wont say anything and will stay boring win or lose. That's what the game needs and what the fans want.
@@jeanjacques9365 ...sorry I forgot that Pat was the only coach available with passion...stop your bs ...you re boring me
@@googleisshit3220 Well you have Tortorella and then the list drops very low on the scale of coaches who express emotions. The rest of the coaches can be replaced by a board on the bench and you wouldnt notice the change. Coaches with personalities are far from the norm now.
What's Roy contract terms ?
How many years?
How much?
Leafs really missed out he would have made the goalies we have better and the team better. Glad to see him back in the game
I'm surprised he wasn't asked to coach an NHL team in the past decade. He's a legend, and it really is a shame he wasn't even offered the job in Montreal. I know how it ended, but Marty had no experience as a head coach and was given the job. He has been OK, but I would've liked if the club reached out and asked Roy to coach the team. He's the reason they have an extra two cup banners in the rafters, and imo Roy belongs back in Montreal, where it all started.
I don't think he ever wants anything to do with Montreal ever again after what happened between him and Mario Tremblay.
Habs don’t seem to want a headliner, the old “no one person bigger than the team” , maybe they need a few superstars even if they don’t speak English,
If it not for Roy leaving we wouldn't have Bedsy and another Stanley cup 👏👏👏
To be specific, if he didn't leave, we don't draft Cale Makar and end up winning the Cup.
Good Job Lou !!
Noone and i mean noone has ever played the game with such a fire and a pure hatred of losing as patty roy
Reason why he left was because he wanted radulov badly and Sakic said no
That's a funny coincidence. I lost all faith in G.M. Marc Bergevin because he refused to budge on radulov's 2nd season with Montreal, after a first round exit, where Radulof
Was one of the only 5 to show up, in a 5 or 6 game loss to the Rangers.
Dare I imagine a Montreal team, in the Finals against T.B. but with a Gamer like Radulof. Especially when you lose game 5. 1 nothing.
Cheers
Why would sakic clash with an old teammate? They won cups tp\ogether
@@MisterMister5893 they had had a difference of opinions on the direction of the team. You can look up articles on it.
Yea Joe wanted to rebuild and Roy wanted to win now
Elliot Friedman is THE MAN! Knows his stuff, without the fluff.
Not really
As an Islander fan my reaction was: What took so long?
Is that a Flieger Type A on his wrist?
ISLANDERS FANS are a funny lot . ROY would best be seen as one of the Working Stiffs who go to ISLANDERS games . He should get out ahead in the press and find a local Tavern to go to nearby .
I've been an Islander fan since the day of their inception ( I'm from Brooklyn) and nothing else can take the place of a home grown feel about a team .
I can't wait to see the competition between Patrick and Martin St. Louis. St. Louis might not care too much, but Roy will be fired up to prove Hughes and Gorton wrong.
happy for Patrick & the islanders, Lou going out on the limb
Roy came across as an emotional hothead and prima donna in Colorado. Not being in sync with his GM and throwing a tantrum was weird.
"There's noone that's gonna light a fire in the room faster than Patrick Roy." - Truer words were never spoken. Patrick is a born winner. He hates losing, and has an ego the size of Colorado. He's going to demand nothing but the best from the Isles because he's going to give it nothing but his best. Let's just hope his ego doesn't get the best of him again this time around.
Patrick Roy can certainly coach - I still think though the biggest shock was the zero connection with The Islanders and Patrick Roy
Good job Lou
Keefe was fired following the loss to Vancouver tonight
Head coach to be named
No he wasn't.
We can only hope
Ottawa Senators you snoozed, now you've losed.
Lou loves the former Habs! 1995 Jacques Lemaire wins cup. 2000 Larry Robinson wins cup. 2003 Pat Burns...wins cup!
Well….
I used to be an Islander fan.
Don’t like the Isles or Roy, but it seems like a good fit.
I was hoping he would come to ottawa. Ottawa will probably get a nobody.
Yup I agree will probably get another toronto coach
I'm thinking Jay woodcroft
They should hire Bruce
Hopefully the Islanders work out a deal for Matthews
What?
You mean that floater with a just wicked shot? 😂
Happy hes back .. entertaining guy, he cant help it!
It's funny how these " hockey analysts" never saw this coming and give a very surprising reaction. There'll like meteorologists, keep them guessing. no offence to any weather gods reading. The Isles bench will be fun to watch from here on in.
The Islanders will become a better team - watch out ...
I will withhold judgment until I see how Barzal plays for him. There are a lot of good hard working players there but a few that dance to their own music
Yes I’ll agree with that, I’m also interested in how the players react, Horvat for one Barzel for another, 🤷🤷♀️
@griggbaylee5808 Horvat has always been the consummate team player and will only be better served by better coaching. At least that's my opinion,
Bring back Lemaire as well as coach, NHL.
"Big cheer" from Duchene tonight if he scores in Roy's debut? 😂
He really really wants to win...
Lou lamarillo. One of the destroyers of hockey with the trap. Stop giving him kudos.
Turn your tv volume down in your hotel room, Elliotte!
So they hired a coach who used to have conversations with his post who can almost speak English. This will go well.
you don't have a lot of things behind the ears, buddy.
Was that your attempt a being clever?
Maybe it's time you have the lead level in your tap water checked little buddy.@@johnnyskinwalker4095
Life long Avs, and Roy fan, I feel dirty, this feels wrong.
isles play with a lot of heart but it was obvious the coach was clueless
Why are folks scared of Roy? You have guys moving around and failing again and again like Boudreau. I don’t get it.
Lou’s next. He won’t get to fire another coach.
That’s what Keefe lacks; the presence to motivate the overpaid core in Toronto so that they can make up for the overpaid journeymen in the dressing room.
mike vernon has entered the chat
Vernon is a joke compared to Roy, who is the greatest goalie of all time.
Agreed. The fact that Vernon was inducted into the HOF is a disgrace to the HOF. @@ciaronsmith4995
When Roy was in Denver he had a bunch of guys who couldn't get the job done and MacKinnon and Rants were pups who weren't putting up many points yet. Duchene was a poon
Leafs should have fired Keefe and got the king
Like a torts
This will be a dumpster fire in no time.
Perfect, give him 2 or 3 years to get better, learn how to Win and maybe, even more importantly, lose).
Then he'll get fired, (or quit) & Patrick Roy will reunite with the team he should have never left and St. Patrick, will get the chance, to save Montreal, climb the last peak and coach his team, to #25
Maybe I'm really crazy and the doctors were right but that is what, imho a big part of what fandom is all about, dreaming. Also, don't forget, You can't have the Fantasy, without the FAN.
Cheers from a (greedy?) Montrealer, who would like to live to see at least 1 more
Coupe Stanley, Merci et Bonsoir.
I don't think he ever wants anything to do with Montreal ever again after what happened between him and Mario Tremblay. As an Avs fan, I wouldn't mind seeing him back there though.
Further proof that the Islanders have not had a clue how to run a team since the 1980s.
This reminds me of the Milbury hiring and putting that "fisherman" logo on the uniforms.........
No!!!!
Senators organization sliding into irrelevance
Stupid move! 😮
Hope he quits on them during a big road trip.
**Roy is a goon, and will always be one. He was lucky that his ex-wife didn't press charges against him back in 2000. I'm glad she left him.
If the Leafs weren't so damn stupid they would have hired him.
Isles are all done. Roy is not a leader.
Ill be real, I watched Roy since 1995. Ups and downs. HC of the Avalanche. This is a Clowns move by the Islanders. He doesnt have the Control for the Job. Thats why if Sakic would have let Roy have his was The Avalanche would never have won that Cup. Good Luck with your Fools gold. Also Remember, Patrick Roy LOST a hell of a lot more Cups then he won because of that arrogance.
I can only think of the 2002 WC Finals Game 7 loss to arguably the best team of all time in the '02 Red Wings. What other "lost" Cups are you referring to?
Roy is the greatest goalie of all time. He singlehandedly carried his teams to cups.
What sport do you watch?
Let’s see how this turns out but I’m guessing……badly, too much unchecked emotion for coaching, but I’m curious 🧐
@jeromeverzosa7901 96-97 Loss to Detroit. Game 7, Wow. 97-98 up 3-1 to Edmonton Krupps goal is called off, Avs lose 4 straight. 98-99 Roy was FLAT out beat by Ed Belfour. Stars Win 3-4. 99-00 tet again, Roy is sloppy and the Avs lose that Series to the Stars 4-3 . Game 7 again, Roy was trash. 01-02 Red Wings , we all know the 7 Detroit put up in Game 7. Does that need explaining ? Or maybe the 6 he gave up in Game 5 ? In 02-03 they also lost in game 7, to the Wild. It was repeated in 03-04 with the Loss to the Sharks. Give the Man credit yes he is a an all time Great, yes he was a Integral Part of the team. But the Statue of Liberty in Detroit, The 40 foot slide in from Bret Hull that should have been stopped, Bret Didn't get full wood on that shot. And How many times did Roy give the puck away trying to be MB ? So they won in 96, that was Roy playing out of his Mind. In 2001 they were so loaded his off nights were usually when the Avs scored 6. Through these years, Roy allowed some garbage goals at times. Even against San Jose them goals were from a distance or between the Pads. And let's face it for a Butterfly goalie that's unacceptable. Roy could have Won more. 🏆
Yeah conveniently leaving out his teams let him down in those series and Patrick won the 2000 series for the Avs against the Red Wings. You are clueless. @@patvaldez5140
Roy, great goalie, horrible person.
How so? Do you know him personally? I doubt it.
@@lelouchvibritannia4028 it's common knowledge. Real A-hole.
Old man's club. Nhl needs to move on. Give a good lower lever coach a chance. Holland. Lamoriello. Etc are washed. Please let the league develop go away.
Meaning a ahl coach a new coach stop bringing these old coaches. Back perfect example idiot Babcock didn't at all at any point deserve another chance and it was shown
That jacket he's wearing is god awful and is the heat not turned on?
