I'd dig up whatever remnants are there & relocate them into buckets or a bag with drainage holes. What a mess though.
We had a contractor do something like that. He had lots of room to drive his bobcat & cement truck wherever he needed to as there wasn't much by the house but grass, brush & trees. What does he decide? He cuts down the maples planted by 2/3.
When we complained he said they'd grow back (& saud that to a 66 yr old). They also ran into & damaged 2 more trees because they were too lazy to move the materials they placed in their own pathway. Oh the stupidity of the lower bid. Lol. Never again.

My husband....he's in the dog house...they didn't want to enter by another route because it would tear up the grass....who cares about grass!

I’m always amazed at the number of people who put the same work and money into maintaining a lawn that serves no useful purpose as those who grow harvestable crops. I’m sorry this happened but as they say “it’s in the past.” ❤

Luckily I have a second in ground garden bed. 5 large raised beds and 6 stock tanks...but I may end up getting more like you suggested

Nothing makes a bigger mess than construction 🚧, I'm still cleaning the mess I made in my prepper shed, moving tools, storing materials like cement bags. Luckily I'm preparing for hurricane season that obligates me to clean up for this season, no more construction for me until the season passes, it's going to be a hyperactive season, don't want to be working and get caught off guard by a storm.
