I literally don't understand how physical NFTs 'can' exist. Wasn't the whole point they were just JPEG hotlinks to a binary designation on some stupid database someplace, representing your designated position 'on' that database? What IS a physical NFT, even?

You're just being assigned a number that points to something. Anyone old enough to buy vinyl records before they originally went out of favour and before they came back would remember "limited edition" records. You'd get a record and it would have a number printed on it. Not saying NFTs are exactly like that but they're trying the same trick digitally. Probably why I never get involved with NFTs as I remember the limited edition record rubbish.

Arguably physical nfts are more nonfungible than real nfts. Physical cards can have individual serial numbers, and individual condition and alterations. By comparison, regular nfts point to a completely fungible copy of an image that can be infinitely duplicated. Kind of like a dollar is always a dollar but a baseball card value depends on condition, they aren't fungible

I don't know if it's a European thing, but we have these chocolate eggs with a small toy inside (Kinder Surprise). There is a collection of these toys and they are small plastic animals. You can scan the figure using a mobile app and it will put the animated version of the animal in front of you using AR. You can use voice commands to let the animal do jumps, dances, whatever... And it also works as a learning tool so you can learn more stuff about the animal and play different mini-games. Then send them a jpg of ice cream and after a while just delete the message. That's the experince and feeling of owning a NFT right there! 🤣
Then give them ice cream later, once they have processed and internalized the feeling so they never forget how disappointed and hurt they were by the betrayal. It's even a lesson you can possibly call back to in the future whenever they break a promise.

I love it. First, we have real scarcity, thanks to the limitations of physical goods. Then we get artificial scarcity, where a producer intentionally makes less of their goods to artificially increase value. Then, we got imaginary scarcity, with digital goods that are given completely made up limitations, like NFTs. And now, these geniuses have combined both artificial and imaginary scarcity in such a way that they cancel each other out and make the entire thing completely worthless. It would be impressive if it wasn't so sad.
Maybe we should just go back to banging rocks together and try starting all this civilization stuff over again, because something clearly went very wrong somewhere.

Card collection in the UK is for kids aged 7 to about 14. They have been going since the 1880s and each generation will go through at least one wave of enthusiasm. The important market in the UK is the school playground. In fact for kids, this is the only "safe" marketplace. Their intrinsic value is close to zero, but for a kid, collecting a complete set is really quite exciting. The true value of these cards was set by the pool of available pocket money.
For older than 14 - grow up and if you have to collect physicals, then collect those which have a real physical market value. On Ebay these are stamps and coins, vintage trading cards and teddy bears - again no intrinsic value, just social extrinsic value based on knowledge of true rarity and quality and condition. To relate these to NFTs requires, I think, each card to have a known rarity value - but if all cards are unique, then they are not rare. Some physicals do have nostalgic and sentimental value and have therefore real extrinsic value on ebay, auction houses and similar trading platforms.
I do hope these people have gotten permission to use the character names and artwork

That started my V:TES collection for the next five or so years before I stopped buying and completing the series because I found rarely anyone to play with.
Have around 40k of the bastards, complete sets up through whatever set they had released.. I think Gehenna at that point.. the re-release of the second edition had just been minted (Due to so much of 'jyhad' being errata or at least reworded and re balanced the original cards were becoming difficult to play with) and after trying to get that set completed..
