Being German, I have been really curious about what this song would be like when I first saw the title on the album tracklist a few weeks ago.
Well, I‘m not disappointed! 😆
Back when Behaviour was first released, I was working in Accountancy, and so the song 'Being Boring' had an additional resonance for me, working in a notoriously 'boring' profession as I was. (It isn't boring, actually. Far from it.) Being a non-driver, I took the train to my office every day, and, bit by bit, I learned the entire lyrics of Behaviour, to sing while I waited on the platform for my inevitably delayed train to appear. I possess a very passable impersonation of Neil's voice, and it was rather wonderful to be singing such marvellous songs, and I didn't care a fig if I seemed incongruous to other commuters. All these years later, my accounting days well in the past, I am now striving to learn Nonetheless, to sing in the bath, or, if needs dictate, on the station platform. All hail Pet Shop Boys. 🙌
I am fascinated to bring several topics like these under one hat: modern pop music from 21st century, the concept of the whole current brilliant album, to keep the Pet Shop Boys style on its own and the topic / title of the track. I am german native people and they made a title as part of an album I recognized as adequate to 'Please', 'Actually' and 'Introspective' as the initial and most lovely ones from my side as Neil and Chris did. This title and the whole current album is an absolute masterpiece and the most direct PSB album since 35 years from my point of view.

Als ich Ende Februar die Tracklist gelesen habe, musste ich mehrfach hinschauen.Von diesem Moment war ich gespannt wie ein Flitzebogen.Aber hört her, voll gelungen zu 100%.
Wenn Neil diesen Track auf deutsch eingesungen hätte, wäre er glatt als Schlager wahr genommen wurden.
Zum Album allgemein,ein sehr schönes Werk.

😂😂 ich musste zweimal hinhören und bin darüber sehr amüsiert… ich mag dieses Lied und das ganze Album. Manche finden das Album wohl etwas melancholisch… das hat mir allerdings schon immer gut gefallen. Ich bin ein Fan von erster Stunde ab und bin immer wieder überrascht was die Jungs rausbringen.
As a British Schlager fan, not quite Michael Holm, Udo Juergens , Wolfgang Petry Guildo Horn et al. The track does sort of reflect the genre though, which is what the PSB may be meaning.

I sort of agree. The production is strangely flaccid and the synth textures are really sounding dated. No wonder they do remixes of everything. Still, I have heard one track that at least captures the old magic one more time and is not just autobiographical gossamer. Maybe I will connect with a few others but not on initial listens...
It's been a rough ride since the poise and originality of Behaviour but dear God, I think this is the worst

I'm disappointed with this album, it's the PBS''s second worst album, "Release" was the worst. Only "The Secret of Happiness" surprised me.
I am agree that Release was a bad album, with the exception of The Samurai in Autumn and Here, it was very depressing but not sweet melancholic as Behavior (one of their best albums)... i think their last great record was Yes...
I still think Release is better than this one, at least it has personality, this one was very generic and the producer didn't help much.

I think that it will grow on you. Actually I am sure. It is not a very easily accessible album. It is not difficult or something, it is just that in order to appreciate its ambient like quality you need to give it time.
And where Is Elysium. Aside from Leaving, Invisible, Memory of the Future and Requiem, Elysium Is not a super pop production, at least not for any casual fan. The rest of the album is too minimalist and some songs could have been B-sides.

Introspective was they last good album all rest are crap
October symphony, very relentless, discoteca, for own good, samurai in Autumn, minimal, yes, memory of the future, electric, super. 😊

They did that on purpose. This whole song is basically a parody of (and even perhaps a bit of an hommage to) the German/central European schlager genre, which is known for super cheesy melodies and forced happiness in often highly vapid & corny lyrics.
