- After waiting what feels like an eternity, I finally have my hands on my most anticipated set of the year, Diagon Alley (75978). After missing out on the 2011 set I knew I had to get my hands on this and it's quickly become one of my top sets of all time. While it's not perfect it sure does come very close.

Gilderoy's robes in this set are not accurate to the film BUT ARE to the book, which is more important than the films. Lilac was Gilderoy's favorite color, afterall. This is a rare case where the film made a mistake and the LEGO set rectified it.
Yup. His stated favorite color is lilac. So, a good choice for his mini-figure.

I got I yesterday and started building it. It took me move 1 and 2 to complete bag 1 😅 okay I also sorted all the bags watching movie 1 and did some cooking and dinner while watching movie 2 😜 now I will start on bag 2 and watch movie 3. I love your channel and it’s so inspiring having another girl out there who is as crazy for HP Lego as I am ❤️
The broom in the window is definitely depicting the Nimbus 2000. The Nimbus 2000 shown in the movie is brown and has gold accents and foot pegs. The LEGO Fire bolt uses the same build but w/ a black broom. The only change that would have made the Nimbus 2000 in this set more accurate is if they had made the foot peg piece in gold instead of gray.
I was waiting for this review. Lilac is Lockhart's favorite color from when he quizzes the students in Chamber Of Secrets* Mine finally got shipped today. Extremely excited for this one.

I searched up images of Lockhart from the book signing scene, and his robes do have some resemblance to that scene, but they still aren’t super accurate. His robes in that scene are more of a periwinkle and I don’t think there’s any orange on his cape. His vest in that scene is the same metallic green color that they use on the minifigure.

I think they may have referenced screenshots where it was slightly purple in the lighting since the hue is kindof borderline and ended up using medium lavender because it was the closest they had to that. The actual costume is probably more blue though, maybe with a purple ascot.
This LEGO minifigs robes are better as they reference the books where Gilderoy's favorite color was lilac, not periwinkle.
In the books he is wearing lavender robes. So they aren’t accurate in the movies but they are for the books.

This is a great review! I'm so glad you started your channel back up in these last few months, I look forward to your videos! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan (I'm a Ravenclaw) and have this set and love it. Since the brick wall entrance was not included in this set, I recently published a video of my own custom build of a working brick wall entrance to make it look like the viewer is "going through the bricks" into Diagon Alley :)

I'd like to see two massive additional sets: A Gringotts Bank set based off of Deathly Hallows, and a Gringotts caverns set that would be designed to sit below the Diagon Alley set and support all four/five buildings plus the bank which would sit on. The bank would be pretty straightforward, maybe have a collapsible roof and include the dragon in the set; and the caverns could have the railway, the waterfall, and bellatrix's vault with lots of fun gold pieces

25:35 you are right about the first film and the Nimbus 2000. But, in the third book, QQS is displaying the new Firebolt broom stick in the window. So you could argue that it is accurate!

I am 56 years old, hubs asked what I wanted for my birthday in may I said the Lego Harry potter castle, for Christmas I said money for legos, my Diagon alley should be here in feb..lol! He didnt know I'd been collecting small sets since 2010! Love them!!! I mean him! 🤣

I’m glad that someone also has the same opinion as me that Quality Quidditch supplies is too bright and that it stands out same with the mini figures. Also thank you for the video this is my favourite review of the Diagon Alley set
This set will go untop of my TV in the game/movie room once I set up the room after my wedding lol getting Hogsmeade in 2 weeks. I'm more of a fan of these sets than the Hogwarts castle. Now we need the gringotts bank, borgin and burkes at the same scale as these and better than the old versions. We also need a triwizard maze or a quidditch world cup set.
This set is truly beautiful the only thing missing is gringots but hopefully it will be in a set next year

Hi Holly! LOVE your review and your channel! In defense of this set, I think TLG built Florean Fortescue's parlor like this because they wanted to match the movie rather than the Orlando shop. Hence why there is no sign name. Anyway, I read the leaks of Summer 2022 wave and cant wait for you to review those sets in June!

In the books lilac is Lockhart's favorite color is lilac, so I think the color in his outfit is a nice thought.
I’ve only been to Orlando once in February and it was awesome ! Hate that you have to pay for both parks to see all of HP world. But might go back for xmas ??? Maybe see how the world is

The Lockhart Figure isn't accurate to any scene.
Lilac is his favourite colour though, so maybe they just took a creative liberty? Idk.
Also I really hope that the Daily Prophet Photographer's face will be reused as Karkaroff (That's the only reason to me it would make sense for him to have a mad face and a black beard and black eyebrows despite having grey hair).

Me and my family got this for Christmas, and we got it done rather quickly as we just assigned a building to a person. The 4 different instruction books are really useful
The reason they have the firebolt is a reference to Prisoner of Azkaban I assume and the Rat is also as I assume it's meant to be Scabbers as Ron kept losing him in Prisoner of Azkaban
Hey Holly, would you be up for comparing Howarts (microscale) to Diagon Alley? Size, value, display, building enjoyment, etc.
Picked up Diagon Alley on release bc I fell in love with HP late in the game after going to universal last year and watching the films back to back in preparation (waiting to build the set with my younger brother). Definitely still want the castle down the road. Thanks in advance!
I think Lockhart had purple robes when he went down into the chamber with Ron and Harry. Though I will say the minifig we got in the 2002 Chamber of Secrets set had a much closer colour with that "tan-red" colour that only got used in that and a few Attack of the lones and Mars sets.
Also I really wish they had revived the old Lockhard hairpiece which was made specially for him and was later used for 2004 Lupin and 2006 Robin! That hair is also perfect for Horcrux Tom Riddle unlike what the dark brown dog trainer's hair they ended up using.
Also I agree that Molly's hair would work better with the 2001 Hermione hair or even the new 2018 Hermione hair just in dark orange!
I really hope we get a Nocturn Alley with the vanishing cabinet at Borgin and Burkes.

My bag is crying too, because I did exactly the same. First I bought the Castle and then Diagon Alley.
It would be cool if the joke shop had a connection so you could attach Borgin and Burkes to the back behind the Knockturn Ally sign, because it's in that location
My mom got the set for me and I'm on a payment plan to her through to my bday xD Yet the wallets are still weeping. Also, this may be a book version of Lockhart because at one point he says Lilac is his favorite color. Sometimes these sets do take some inspiration from the books, which can be confusing to those who don't read them all the time or just watch the movies.

All my 2018+ Harry Potter ones are on their own shelf, some of my other sets are on a different shelf in my room that I plan to swap over every 4-6 months and any I don’t have space for but want to keep built are in storage containers in drawers under my bed. Any broken down ones are either labeled in zip lock bags or parted out ☺️

Is Fred’s nose upside down? Haha made me giggle as you were saying something felt off to you (even though I agree even with the nose the right way round)
For the love potion there are supposed to be 4 heights so even though you’re right that a purple stud is missing it’s not on that shorter one. I used a black 1x1 cylinder to prop mine up in the window so I could center it and have one of those arms comfortably hang over the window sill.

My Girlfriend bought me this set for my Birthday.
She is still a student so it is about the price she pais for her rent every month.
She bought it from Ebay without the Figures, so it was a bit more affordable for her. I already had most of the Figures due to other sets.
Imagine my surprise, when opening the package.
She knew that I would never have the money to
spend that much on a Lego set, but she knew that I really love this set.
I think I‘ll merry her.
42:25 definitly had issues here , partially my fault though not noticing the instructions telling us to rotate parts of the mechanism 180. Then you can also not be sure if youre doing it right and whether the instructions arent 100% accurate. Do i need to have the piece at this exact angle for it to work ? If i get it wrong, how much of the building do i need to break to correct it.
A good tip for people in the U.K. that want to buy this but not for £369 wait till Black Friday 2021 cause last year 2019 I got my Hogwarts for £262 from smyths (you get it about 1 year and a half later but it’s a better price)
There are Smyths in the other countries too, offering toys for great prices. However, I haven't seen any Diagon Alley there... Perhaps they'll have it next year. I wanted a shuttle too but they didn't have it either. Some sets they just don't have. :(

Literally the first set ive had since i was a child and i went in hard for this one lol.
Was so fun to build. Youre making these miniature things to put in the buildings and youre like What on earth is this?....then it clicks and youre like "Thats so clever".
I have finished the build but have to say... im left with quite a few space pieces. Is this normal?
Anything that is 1x1 or super small is normal!
