I manage lots of people at all levels. Your WNBA has poor leadership. Would it be nice to have your TV audience go to 5 million a game? More viewers more money. Management blew it on Clark. Why? The GM just echoed what the coach said about being happy with a #6, #7 or #8 finish. Leaders should set realistic, yet challenging goals. A 7 or 8 finish should not be considered a goal, given that they have 3 all-stars and are not far from the #6 position. A classic strategy of underperformers is to set low expectations in order to keep a job.
There are significant criticisms of Sides that are absolutely true. There have been games where Clark makes a brilliant play and the coaches are pulling their hair out and yelling "NO". The defense needs to be recognized as important.
The sports world has more than its fair share of Monday morning QBs and ever so often the Monday Morning QBs are right - the problem is that you do not have to wait until Monday to see that Sides is a joke as a coach.
