Good listening on the video. Allowing that paint to flash is key. If you get tons of dirt you can scuff your panel down with 800 (don’t burn through to the base) and add 2 more coats of clear and it should come out smoother.
With any kind of plastic like the spoiler the way to take care of that is to bake the parts in a booth to bring all the oils to the surface then clean prep and paint
@devin I respect the fact that you do everything yourself even the stuff that you have never done before. Love watching your videos and builds are insane. Keep it up, your awesome!!
I usually get bored watching other automotive channels but I always feel like Dr. Devin is somehow teaching me shit. This channel needs 1MM subs. This channel should have TJ numbers and that dude turned into a total asshat. Can't wait to see where this channel is at in another year. Thanks for always releasing bangers for us every day Devin!
I first saw you when Bader was tuning Bobbi’s STI. From there I subscribed to your channel, I have to say you do a very excellent job on all your work!
It takes a humble man to say “i’m not sure if just the stuff I got didn’t work or what “ and then say “the other stuff just worked better for me” when you clearly wasted plenty of time waiting for the first putty to dry. Any other person would have thrown a fit and shamed the product in many ways. Devin’s always looking at the positive side of things, we need more people with this type of attitude and patience
im really hoping to get some practice painting my miata, I really enjoyed watching this. I think it helped me get more info and closer to actually buying paint and learning how to myself!
I know the Sti is the main focus of this video but I cant help but geek out at the Supra just casually sitting there in the background ❤ this man has dream goals 👌🤝
Bro your doing great with auto body, I've been doing bodywork for about 20 years now and your doing great. If I was local to u I would show u the steps for free just to help the channel. Anyway love the channel and your a good dude bro. Best of luck bro.
Hey Devin love the videos been following for a long time! I had the same issue years ago painting ABS plastic and this was my process.. I let the raw plastic bake in sun try and get the oils to come to the surface. Then, using Comet ( I believe it’s used to clean showers etc..) and a scotch pad scuffed, cleaned everything and it worked perfectly Comet is a powder and it’s a mild abrasive. My neighbor at the time was a painter and he suggested it to me and worked wonders hope this helps!
For fish eyes wear gloves. The oils on your hands will cause them. Also for raw abs plastic use a scuff paste and waterborne cleaner. Then use a adhesion promoter before putting any base or primer.
Nitro-Stan Red Glazing Putty and that bondo red glazing spot putty are the best i have used so far the way i apply the putty is the regular body putty sand with 40 grit hand 80 grit hand 120 grit da then spot putty 120 grit da and hand sand and then wash parts with either lacquer or 50/50 green soap then paint but looks hella good so far
Don't use degreaser. The paint fisheyes because there is oil on the surface. The paint shop sells a liquid prep for that to use just before paint. Use tack cloth also to remove any dust, and wear (disposable)gloves when handling because there are oils on your hands too. If you are spraying over any other paint, a primer-sealer is good to use because that will stop any chemical reaction between old paint and new. In fact you can't go wrong using primer-sealer on new parts too. I believe the cracking in the paint is called crazing (don't quote me on that exact word), but primer-sealer will stop that my friend.
!! Use adhesion promoter very first on plastic will make a big difference for you. Apply it the right way and you shud be happy in the end. Good luck. !!
You need to just invest in a cup like the pps or dekup system. Your favorite store harbor freight carries their version now. Much quicker cleanup. Less material waste. Can spray in any angle too
The rear bumper has stress cracks which were left in the fiber glass as they needed sanding and filling before primer don’t stress we all no fiber glass is a bitch to prep and the paint job came out mint for a shed job keep up the good work can’t wait to see what u can do in a booth!!
Wish I lived on the west coast I did autobody for 6 1/2 years and would love to help you out. you're doing a great job love the content keep it up. my dream car is a 2007 STi btw
always enjoying watching you learn as you go. cameron alford had a nice ep about painting his subaru in one of those big ass booths recently. might help.
Hope you shot out the entire car, think it be a much better end result then just wrapping it IMO. Been loving this build even being more of a evo fan myself
Get yourself a good spray gun and you'll minimize orange peel even more. The higher end guns atomize a thousand times better than the lower end guns and you'll see a huge difference. Also not sure if you have two different guns for primer and base/clear but you should be using different size nozzles between the two
You should have covered up the engine hoist, especially the hydraulic jack main shaft part!!! All the primer and clear will stick to that shaft and eventually ruin the seals inside the jack.
yeah when painting you want a tack coat let that set for 20 minutes till its tacky then spray color coat when that becomes tacky then thin color coat and flash coat it to get the gloss to come out even better in laying down and repeat with clear and the mirror that comes out will blow you away.
Like another comment here says that you could bake it in 60 celsius, or you need to spray down a plastic adhesive compound and then spray it with some clearcoat. Let that dry, then sand this carfully with some 600grid or 800grid, then its good to paint :) I hate abs plastic!
also when you primer, dont take off all of the primer that you spray on there if you do then theres no point to primering lol. just put that spot putty on all the holes, sand them and them primer it. primer alone wont fill the holes up.
thats not how you use the glazing putty. youre supposed to use it for like pinholes and stuff like that. for big holes like that it takes forever to dry, maybe like 2 days for a fully cure. at the least. good thing you got that bondo putty tho lol
Devin everytime you paint on plastic you have to DEGREASE the parts with a hood degreaser cause those parts they always have some oil from the factory..
"peace out my friend, I'll see you guys tomorrow" this phrase never disappoint us.🔰
Don’t understand how there’s enough time in the day for him to do all the things he does and edit and upload daily videos, hats off 👌
Good listening on the video. Allowing that paint to flash is key. If you get tons of dirt you can scuff your panel down with 800 (don’t burn through to the base) and add 2 more coats of clear and it should come out smoother.
I’ve learned everything from Paint Society when it comes to painting. And I’ve painted multiple cars now. Brian is a really good teacher.
I love the fact that I can’t catch up to all the videos. Most underrated car channel ever

Most underrated UA-camr, no one else uploads daily consistently like Devin
Loving the progress! Not skipping even one video of yours
Always we the floor when you painting Devin! It helps a lot with dust!
Hell yeah. Paint society is great, super informative guy.
paint society makes me think i can paint a whole car myself lol
Enjoying the come up of the Janky STI before the journey of repairing Rose starts RIP 🥀

I’m glad you’re taking your time on this build it makes it more fun to watch
Devin your painting skills are getting better so fast. Glad you tried the tack coat method for your clear!
Mad props for the undertaking! It really means a lot that you post up all the learning and thoughts while you go through it!

Devin is a perfect example of a man doing what he loves 👍
The portable booth idea is an AWESOME IDEA Devin🤔👌🏻. However DEFINITELY get a bigger one. That booth could maybe fit a go-cart. Lol………😜
im really hoping to get some practice painting my miata, I really enjoyed watching this. I think it helped me get more info and closer to actually buying paint and learning how to myself!
I smile every time I see there is a new video from you! Keep up the grind brother!!!
You should sand the epoxy primer before laying down the base coat
I know the Sti is the main focus of this video but I cant help but geek out at the Supra just casually sitting there in the background ❤ this man has dream goals 👌🤝
Omni paint is PPG which is very good paint and I haven’t had any issues with it

Devin and Bobbi are the best.
Hardest working car guy on UA-cam! Keep up the great content Devin!

Your doing a damn great job figuring things out on the go!
Can spray in any angle too
You also mix right into the cup since it's got the mixing ratios right on it
When dealing with plastic in the past, heating it up multiple times with a heat gun and then wiping with acetone helped me out.
The bubbles are from gas off. Either more time is needed between coats, or primer-sealer (epoxy 2K primary is needed).
Awesome to see you take on paint! Hope you do a full paint and restoration on the STI!!!!!! You can’t make it worse ;)
The rear bumper has stress cracks which were left in the fiber glass as they needed sanding and filling before primer don’t stress we all no fiber glass is a bitch to prep and the paint job came out mint for a shed job keep up the good work can’t wait to see what u can do in a booth!!

fisheyes could be water in your air line. it’s not always the plastics fault
I watch paint society great guy and very informative
Your an inspiration to me bro I live building and aspiring to do and be more
My Sunday was fixed as soon as I saw the DEVIN UPLOADED NOTIFICATION... thanks!!!
I would recommend preparating with grease and wax remover before you lay primer
Yup. Been waiting all day for this bro... FIRST!!
always enjoying watching you learn as you go. cameron alford had a nice ep about painting his subaru in one of those big ass booths recently. might help.
Paint society???? HELL YEA I watch em too! AHC Garage as well!
Also use tack rags to get off small particles of dirt and dust just before spraying paint/epoxy
Hope you shot out the entire car, think it be a much better end result then just wrapping it IMO. Been loving this build even being more of a evo fan myself
Glazing putty you're supposed to mix with hardener you can use the same harder that you use with Bondo
Adhesion promoter helps a bunch on ABS plastic.
Get yourself a good spray gun and you'll minimize orange peel even more. The higher end guns atomize a thousand times better than the lower end guns and you'll see a huge difference. Also not sure if you have two different guns for primer and base/clear but you should be using different size nozzles between the two
That Paint looked good D…. Your getting better 🔥💯👌🏽
devin keep it up dude happy to see you grow. Have you ever thought about a potential gti build?
Hey Devin, where did you get that paint booth and what's the price ? Hit me up with info......keep building.
Don't rush it take your time and think slowly and think which process you want to do
glad to this coming together
What’s up the steam?
10:48 is that turbo from the hyperblue evo?😄
Yooo!! I thought you do not have a vlog. Just woke up early and looking for you haha.
Subs from the 🇵🇭
You should have covered up the engine hoist, especially the hydraulic jack main shaft part!!! All the primer and clear will stick to that shaft and eventually ruin the seals inside the jack.
I click these so fast. Thanks for the daily uploads. They really are entertaining brother
Any plans for the darker blue evo? I don’t think you have touched it since you brought it
Arn't you supposed to make bigger smooth motions with the paint gun and only start and stop the gun off the panel?
I live this channel it’s progressing very well!!!!
Can 't you use a booth at bobbi s dad shop? Would be easier with flash off times and dust or dirt?
love these videos man keep up the great work
Use an adhesive it like almost glue for the plastic and with you won’t get the fish eyes
Just a heads up 14 psi is probably gonna blow the motor but I’d love to see a fully built fa20 💪
Devin the goat
Bro you’re such a hard worker
What will be first. New appartment or a new shop
Why didnt you use the tip we all told you about pouring new gallon paint? Using tape to make a v to make it come out easier?
yeah when painting you want a tack coat let that set for 20 minutes till its tacky then spray color coat when that becomes tacky then thin color coat and flash coat it to get the gloss to come out even better in laying down and repeat with clear and the mirror that comes out will blow you away.
The FRS she build good Devin 👍
You might need to get a pour spout for those full cans lol
Waited whole day for this. 🥳
I thought you took the day off, nope, I was wrong, frickin sweet, painting with Devin on Sunday night, what is Jared driving? Did you get him a car?
Some paint action! lets goooooo
The grind is real. 😲💪
Like another comment here says that you could bake it in 60 celsius, or you need to spray down a plastic adhesive compound and then spray it with some clearcoat. Let that dry, then sand this carfully with some 600grid or 800grid, then its good to paint :) I hate abs plastic!
of course you have to wait but it sat doing nothing for years lol good work on the prep as usual
Anti static cleaner for plastic help you out with that
Wonderful black
Devon pick up some fish eye reducer the mixing to your father primer and also your sealer 🤔
Been waiting for this 💯
Heating up the plastic should help. Not crazy amount of heat. But to the point we’re it’s warm
Hey Devin, think we can get some wallpapers of your hyper blue evo on ig story? That thing is so crisp..
Hope your doing good brotha love when I see your videos pop up🙌🏼
Yeahh boi - STI she lookin thiccc
Good work Devin!
Would you ever consider a legacy H6 turbo build?? Ultimate sleeper 😍
Is that 3000gt at 18:47 yours now too?
Hey where can I get this paint boot? Can you send me the link or the name please ?
you have to use platic primer to have that issue gone.... and then filler primer
When you gonna get a frame puller and alignment rack? You do damn near everything! Haha! Dude, you're killin it man. To the moon, brotha! 🚀🌙
Is that a 3000gt I see next to the supra ? I mean that is right up your alley I would say,,,,, makes me wonder 🤔.
also when you primer, dont take off all of the primer that you spray on there if you do then theres no point to primering lol. just put that spot putty on all the holes, sand them and them primer it. primer alone wont fill the holes up.
thats not how you use the glazing putty. youre supposed to use it for like pinholes and stuff like that. for big holes like that it takes forever to dry, maybe like 2 days for a fully cure. at the least. good thing you got that bondo putty tho lol
Just continue the good work
that room are so you don`t get dust in the main room. But yes a bigger one would be nice
Devin everytime you paint on plastic you have to DEGREASE the parts with a hood degreaser cause those parts they always have some oil from the factory..
What gun and tip do you use?
