Just want to say thank you for this video! You are a person that makes me believe there is still something good and hopeful in the US after this awful display/outcome. It seems to me that the US might have plenty of freedom of speech, but seriously lack freedom of thought (not people like you of course), they let others think for them. Education, religion, media, social media, laziness, lots of reasons for that probably. It"s sad and the world will suffer for it, but most of all Americans themselves (including amazing, smart, kind people like yourself). I really hope this awful, ugly reality show ends soon and a new and better US can rise out of it. Even if you have to make some big changes to get there. Are you really the UNITED states anymore? Only you know. Wishing you the best of luck and fighting spirit! You are not alone, a lot of people outside of the US feels and looks at this the same way that you do and support you (even though there is little more we can do). Maybe it has to get worse for it to get better? Hopefully enough people can wake up out of the cult/brainfog. This too shall pass. ❤
I think this is a very good point and I might pin this comment because Mike and I continuously talk about this. One thing that shocks Mike the most about Americans is that they do not do their own research (especially Trump supporters). They hear him say "the sky is green and purple" and without looking up his supporters will say "yeah the purple and green sky is the best". @@HayleyAlexis I do so agree with you both. I think that shocks a lot of people outside of the US. We just cant understand it. This might be the way it worked in the 16-1700s when you went to church and got told what to think. In some churches I bet that can still be true (certainly in cults), but most people have moved forward from that and in school they teach us to think for ourselves, question texts, look for sources and such. This is pivotal to know as a citizen! There seems to still be a lot of propaganda and scare tactics holding people in place in the US for some reason. If this has to do with the history/origin of the US, I don't know, but that's my impression. I watch Americans on YT and they seem so lost, they either buy everything so easily, have no clue or don't know how you actually find out the facts and question everything instead. That is scary. You really stand out, and are so brave. I am so happy to listen to your wise thoughs and teach me about things from your experience. It's very interesting and as I said, you give me hope!
I think education is the main one of those. The majority of highly educated people did not vote for him. A Gallup report from 2020 said over 50% of American adults lack English literacy proficiency. I don't remember the percentage, but there was a huge percentage that were below 5th grade level reading proficiency. Right there is your answer why they do not research. They never learned how to do research. They intentionally keep people from getting an education, so they can't or won't do their own research and then vote accordingly. I think many of them genuinely do not understand that they vote against themselves. And when the coming VP calls professors the enemy, you can imagine what's coming for higher education. It's not gonna be good.
@HayleyAlexis they are probably homeschooled and have never learned to do research and judge sources. And they are Christian so they are drilled to follow like sheep without thinking. American Christians are a different tribe...

Dear Haley, thank you for your open and clear words! On your thoughts at 10:09 I remember a famous saying from a german pastor Martin Niemöller. He was once with the nazis but then turned against them. He said: "As the nazis arrested the communists, I stayed silent, because I wasn't a communist. As they arrested the unionists, I stayed silent, for I wasn't in a labor union. As they arested the jews I stayed silent because I wasn't a jew. I stayed up all night and watched this nightmare unfold. I was in shock. Good luck, US, you are going to need it. Thank you Hayley and cheers from Bavaria
we all need luck for the next x years, this election will have a wide range of consequences outside the us, from our (european) national security to trade... just looking at ua, taiwan and south korea for immediately visible issues
Hayley it is truly a joy to listen to you. And not simply because we share the same political views. You have talked about other topics where I would disagree. But you are very articulate, your arguments are strong/ often right on point and you have a charming personality. So Thank you very much for your content
@jumi123: I could not care less if this just was an American thing. But there is a high risk that this affects the whole world´s peace. I´m in shock, too. And what you say seems to work in some countries .. but not in currently divided USA: Listen to each other, talk, building political views, and find a way "together" for a better future. But it seems in the USA they don´t want a "together", they want a "fight, fight, fight" ... against each other. I´ve never seen a country where this did lead to a positive future.
We thought the US was better than it is. We felt that women would choose themselves at least. I learned so much from this election. I am a black woman raising a black son. I am angry at a lot of groups. The grass isn't greener, but I have to choose another place for my safety and sanity. I am making plans. I already was, but they are being fast-tracked.
A woman that has half the brain of joe biden and cant even speak on her own without a damn teleprompter and she's the best candidate for the position just because she's a woman? yeah makes perfect sense.
Thanks Hayley. I'm glad I'm not in America right now, and can walk around without everyone talking about it. Then I thought, good grief, Hayley's in freaking FLORIDA, where the man spent the day. *shudder*
The supporters (not all however) have and do scare me, he brings out the worst in society. Thank you for your thoughtful analysis. As a Canadian who has vacationed in Florida many times I don't really have the same desire to visit, sad. I feel so bad for you and whatever discrimination you have had to endure, at least you can move away should you need to.
Florida has transformed into such a nasty place. My home, where I grew up, the simplicity of living in this state has been taken over by conservative folks that are not originally from here and have turned this state in to a straight garbage can. It is so sad.
This is probably your greatest post so far and the best comment and analysis about the situation I've seen - thank you for your words! You're truely speaking from my heart and it feels like a beam of light shining through the sadness that fills me since yesterday. I hope you can hang in there, and at least finish your school in your home country! 🥴
This sums up perfectly how I'm feeling, especially the first 2 minutes. I'm here in Germany and took the 6th off so I could watch live through the night and sleep in the afternoon. I'm glad I did, because I was just a zombie in shock the entire day, and needed the time to decompress and process everything. Especially because as the "Token American" I was NOT ready to field questions from everyone I came across. I had to go for a Blutabnahme and even in the waiting room these little old Bavarian ladies were discussing the results and making parallels as to how a certain historical figure rose to power (a topic people of that generation DO NOT take lightly). It was surreal. The rest of the world sees it, but half of America does not.
Hi Haley, I am 64 and a German engineer, but I live in the South of France now. I have lived in some and traveled 31 States of the US incl. Alaska since 1977!! What I noticed over the many years was the increasing gap between "educated" Americans and simple workers/immigrants. The latter is always short of money at the end of the month and they look up to someone like Trump as a Mesias, because he has a villa in Florida and flies in on his own plane. That mass of uneducated people has primary thoughts to survive. My father, a business man and writer, always told me that it is easy to be a democrat when you are educated and you got a good, well paied job. Look at Eastern Germany, a part of Germany let down and canabalized (Treuhand) after the fall of the wall by Kohl and Merkel and the population is now voting for the fashist AFD. Look at the Weimar Republic, so many people didn't have jobs in the end plus the resession and all turned towards Hitler "to help them". Kamala / Biden and the Democrats were not able to realy reach and offer anything substancial to the lower class. NEXT TIME :) Kind greetings, Andreas
True. The drivers are always the same in these events. Democracy _needs_ the promise of a social career, no hunger, uneducation or unemployed person if they don't want to be. If that's not given by the state, democracy will loose.
In Germany we have a new joke. "Was grenzt an Dummheit?" -"Kanada und Mexiko" I don't know if one can translate this literally and keep the sense; "What borders stupidity?" - "Canada and Mexico". But maybe you get the point.
As German when he started to quote & praise Hitler i thought ok this breaks the Camels back. But no even this was ok and i was like wait..they saved us among other Allies from exactly that guy & Facism? And now they give a fuck about this..
The same here ... Not angry, not fearfull, not panicing or anything. I was simply plain sad and lost my faith in humanity - my nasty AfD neighbor as well as any MAGA guy on TV. I'm talking about 2016. Semantics away: Of course this feeling never left me. But with every election or other major event, no matter if it's the AfD in Germany, Russian warcrimes or now a person like Trump again - this deep disappointment comes back again and again.
Watching from Germany: Thank you for this video, this is one of the best analysis I heard up to now! And it is surprisingly also somewhat soothing (yes, I was also totally shocked, even though not american).
I thought about you 😢 especially because you are living in Florida. I can’t imagine a life living in a Bundesland where more than 50% of the people voted for no rights for women, people of color and so on. In Germany I banned Bundesländer like Sachsen from my travel list, because I can’t handle racism. My heart is with you ❤
Well technically 56% voted yes for amendment 3 in Florida but you need the 60% rule for it to go into action. It is disheartening. Our elections are such a scam in my opinion.
I admit that I wasn't sure what your message would be, but I am glad to have tuned in to hear your leveheaded clear message Spot on, and I applaud you for that .🎉🎉🎉
Why am I all teared up? Your voice, the pain. *sigh* That morning I woke up and told my husband, if he wins, it won't be the end of the world. I was full of despair. I'm trying to figure out if I feel as awful as I did in 2016. That was, for me, like watching a horror movie come to life. I was utterly shocked and couldn't believe my eyes. I think it is the same level of horror. I don't want him dead (that bullet was so close), I just want him in Federal prison the rest of his life. He was a criminal before the conviction of the felonies. And now......well something happened in Germany yesterday.....so the Germans have something else to worry about.
Thank you for your words. I am still shocked, angry and disappointed. This was the perfect chance to write history, but unfortunately the voters chose something else 😑
Well spoken Haley. I agree with you totally. Thank You for sorting out my thoughts that I couldn't gather and express. Thank You for being there for folks of like mind.
Hi Hayley, I was waiting for your response. As an American still here in Europe...GURL COME BACK (After you get your education finished of course). So many friends of mine all over the world are disappointed, as well as myself. Then a lot of trolls who I thought were friends are about to be un-friended. I am more shocked about the amount of brwn, yella and some blck people whom have voted for him? IDC anymore. More than half of us are ignorant...so, I could careless what will happen to him. Yup, They just want to fit in, but if they have heard so many people saying to me that "They are different than you!". Yet, I'm blk, so if they are telling me this, what are they saying about me behind my back. We NEED EDUCATION!
I am patiently waiting to see what Germany does, I have a little hope that Germans will "do the right thing" but unfortunately alt-right and just right-wing-ness in general is on the rise all over the world.
I wanna thank you so much for your opinion, for your kind words, that you share here. I am German and I live in the south of Germany. I am also so so so sad about the votation for Trump…again, 4 years „with him“ - it is a shock for me, for my family and my friends here. We hoped so much for Kamala, for a woman with a brain and a heart. Everywhere on the world are those old men ruling people, so crazy. I really also wait for a re-set, as you. A big hug from me for you 💗
I was waiting for your video about the election and can agree to everything you said. I am so worried for the whole world now, for all democracys and all the people longing for democracy. The re-election of Trump endangers us all. I just hope for the best now.
That is also a big fear of mine... That he even said in his speech that he wants to have a better relationship with Russia... It makes my blood boil and is such a slap in the face to so many Americans.
thank you.. thank you for honestly saying what Europe thinks... thanks!! The "man's" ideas are only and exclusively about... (take a second and think...) - money.... !! "How can I make myself richer when I can no longer be president, and how can I get the system turned around so that I can retain "power" for as long as possible."
As a German unfortularely i could not vote for Kamala, but i wished so much i could. Your words ur opinions are mine. The people who vote for Trump will get their payback but sadly also all the other that did not vote for him.
As a German, there are so many things I don't understand about the political system: - First of all, the electoral college. Didn't make any difference this time, but this system is so unfair and ancient, a lot of votes are being ignored. Why has that never been changed? - Why are there still only two parties? - 4 years ago, I already thought: such a big, great country, and they only come up with Biden and Trump as candidates? HOW?? And this time, the democrats held on to Biden for so long, unbelievable, and then Kamala was chosen. Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to see her as the first female president. But as you say, as a black female it was hard for her. Wasn't there anybody else to stand a chance against Trump!!?? But then again I look at Germany and ask myself: Is nobody here trustworthy and capable anymore? I just hope, that 4 more years of Trump don't bring more wars to our world than there already are.
May I answer your second question: I strongly assume that that's due to the principle of the winner takes it all in every voting district (in the UK this principle is called first past the post). The candidate or party getting the most votes wins the voting district meaning that all other votes are being discarded. That principle encourages people to vote predominantly for parties with a reasonable chance of winning a district. As a result the number of parties seriously competing for representing a voting district narrows down to two although actually any number of parties could present itself or its candidate. In contrast, for example Germany is applying proportional representation meaning that all votes for parties (eg. Zweitstimme) are counted to determine the proportional share of votes of each individual party and consecutively to calculate the number of seats for each party in parliament (Bundestag). The only votes which get discarded are the votes for parties failing to reach or to exceed the 5% threshold. Long story short: the number of dominating parties is mainly a result of the method of counting votes and of determining the representation of a voting district. It's essentially a result of voting habits by the electorate/voters. In the USA, that process is complicated further by introducing an additional level of election called the electoral college where each state is treated like a kind of voting district with its respective number of electors. The president gets actually elected by the electors of the electoral college and not directly by the voting districts of the 50 states of the USA.
Thank you very much for your detailed answer. It does make sense that the two-party system is a direct result of the electoral system. But I maintain that the electoral college makes little sense to me, I find it unfair.
@@caseyv9500 As far as I know the electoral college has been introduced as a compromise in the early years of the USA trying to find a balance between different states, larger vs. smaller ones, urban vs. rural ones. But I'm no expert on that and I don't know the exact reasons for that institution. I only know that it's a part of the constitution of the USA which can be changed only with very large majorities in both, the Senate and the House of Representatives, which makes it very improbable of being changed ever. That's a bit of a burden of both, rule of law and a democracy based on an old constitution. In the UK the situation is even a bit more complicated because there's not one written constitution but a collection of several books of laws, agreements and well established traditions forming the legal basis for procedures and decisions of the Houses of Parliament. In contrast the German constitutions both of the Weimar Republic 1919 - 1933 and the Federal Republik of Germany since 1949 have been created with having something like the French constitution in mind. That appears to have a clearer, more logical and more modern structure. Additionally Napoleon initiated a legal reform resulting in a well structured set of books of law called the Code Civil which later was used by many continental European countries as an example of creating a clearer more comprehensible system of laws compared to older collections of laws. In Germany such modern (Napoleonic) books of laws are the BGB (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch, civilian book of law), the StGB (Strafgesetzbuch, book of penal law) and the HGB (Handelsgesetzbuch, book of commercial law). Mind that the term Napoleonic is meant to indicate only that it has been created with some inspiration from Napoleon's law reform in France.
10:20 reminds me of what Martin Niemöller said about the Nazis: "When the Nazis came for the communists, I kept quiet; I wasn't a communist. When they came for the trade unionists, I kept quiet; I wasn't a trade unionist. When they came for the Jews, I kept quiet; I wasn't Jewish. When they came for me, there was no one left to protest."
OMG!! EVERY single word that you said could have been me talking! I'm an Independent voter who has voted mostly for Democrats, but never for Trump. I left the U.S. three years ago, planning to return, but life has only improved since I left. The racism in the U.S. hasn’t gone away-it’s just changed form...somewhat. They can’t openly revert to past discrimination, like it would have been in the 1800's or 1950's, although some try, so they do it in subtle ways. I love my country, but I struggle with what it's become. While not everyone is racist, overall, society still has deep-seated racial issues and the ignorance is INSANE! I worry every single day about my son and police brutatlity and I have talked to him about leaving the country. I used to think about the possibility of returning to the U.S. at some point, but I don't want to deal with the racist people, the people who think that they have a say so over a woman's body, the religious zealots who think that everyone is going to hell, etc. Besides, the culture where I live is amazing and it feels "alive" where I live, compared to the dull suburds of the U.S.
Thank you for sharing because I was going to ask the same question. Where do you live now because I am looking to move out of the US within the next two years and I'm exploring where. I've been to Spain, Paris, the Netherlands and Germany, which was my favorite. That's why I watched this channel because I fell in love with Germany..
Is that dems biggest argument that "oh he's a racist" people are starving thanks to Biden and Kamala can't afford food or housing things were way be better when he was in office. The state of the country and the economy is more important than yalls TDS issues. The fact that the last administration just let the flood gates wide open to illegals and destroyed the U.S. is no big deal apparently even Kamala admitted that if she was in office she wouldn't have done anything different than Joe. Just sickening and f'ing insane we just dodged a bullet with this election.
@expatwill Sir stop liking your own comments, it is embarrassing. US citizens are not starving; obesity is the highest it has ever been in this country.
I think this is the point where the downfall of the USA is getting more or less unstoppable. You might hope it's not going to be that bad and it can't get worse but actually, it can and I think it will.
Your sadness showed right at the start of this video. Must be hard for you and a lot of Americans! I try to avoid politics as much as possible. And I am more and more thankful that I live in Switzerland 🇨🇭.
I wish I was you! I was actually born in Eastern Europe and immigrated to the US long time ago. I am currently in the process of moving back to Europe. The USA is a fraud. I wish I never fell for this big lie.
The thoughts you articulate are shared by many. We will continue fighting for a better, fairer, more inclusive country for all. Thanks for having the courage to speak truth to power.
Hayley you hit the nail squarely on the head. For millions of Americans the election came down to one thing, a black women against a white man. It didn't matter the the white man was the most flawed individual possible, a liar, a sexist, a felon, a sexual predator , a racist, and l could go on and fill the page. Against a black women who was , intelligent, kind, caring and highly qualified to do the job . But this is America and all millions saw was white man , black women. Sadly now the rest of us who see things differently will pay the price, along with most of the people who voted for trump. I am 66 years old, and the county l was born and raised in and grew up in is now dead. What comes next is going to be very dark. l feel sorry for my young daughters and am ashamed and embarrassed by my country.
Is she Black? Indian? Hispanic? sure seems she tried to play all those roles to favor those groups. Had nothing to do with race she was a fraud and the people saw it.
Every American knows the saying “with great power comes great responsibility” and the majority would probably agree with this out of self-interest, so as not to be at the mercy of a more powerful person. In the election, Americans had the chance to place the power of their country in responsible hands and failed miserably.
The worst thing is that he serves as a legitimate example for other politicians here in Europe and other parts of the world. Horrible In Germany, the government was unexpectedly dissolved yesterday and new elections are due. Another opportunity for the populists of the AfD. What a pity. A real shame.
Hi Hayley cudos to you,a hour ago i thought Hayley might do no Video about this. Because she might be Heartbroken very much. My opinion as a German. If this had been some margin Electoral win i would maybe let count the usual excuses like wrong "Message" by the Dems or something. But this kind of a Win....no..no..not so fast Lonestar. No more excuses this was: 1. Lack of Education 2. Hate,Racisum & Selfishness 3. Fear of a Woman President.

I like it. It fits the situation.
That's nice, but this circus will still govern the entire USA and they have nukes too.
This hurts! And I am not an American but a German. But I feel sad about the success of populism all around the world!
Same with me, in Stuttgart. It hurts really badly.
It's not populism, it's fascism.

Me to, and I'm still in shock. 😢
Good luck to us all. Regrettably, the whole world will pay for consequences, including US citizens.
we all need luck for the next x years, this election will have a wide range of consequences outside the us, from our (european) national security to trade...

"Griff ins Klo" das hast du wunderbar ausgedrückt!
Thank you Hayley for this video. I understand you completely. I'm sad too.
Sei gedrückt! Danke für die klaren Worte. 🌸

Build Back Better was such a plan that would help
True. The drivers are always the same in these events. Democracy _needs_ the promise of a social career, no hunger, uneducation or unemployed person if they don't want to be. If that's not given by the state, democracy will loose.
In Germany we have a new joke.
"Was grenzt an Dummheit?"
-"Kanada und Mexiko"
I don't know if one can translate this literally and keep the sense; "What borders stupidity?" - "Canada and Mexico". But maybe you get the point.
Sadly, we have our own problems here in Germany.
Ahh the German moral high ground starts kicking in..Are you related to Miss Bearbock?

I totally agree with you. I really respect you for it. It's nice to see that not all Americans have lost their minds.
I can understand your anger. Sending you a big hug (which won't help much, I know, but still...)
Virtual hugs always help ❤️❤️
Watching from Germany: Thank you for this video, this is one of the best analysis I heard up to now! And it is surprisingly also somewhat soothing (yes, I was also totally shocked, even though not american).
Thank you so much for your words Hayley! They give me hope. 🤗
I admit that I wasn't sure what your message would be, but I am glad to have tuned in to hear your leveheaded clear message
Spot on, and I applaud you for that .🎉🎉🎉
Thanks, Hayley. ❤
Thanks for this video!
It' so interesting to hear your take on that topic. That you were not surprised...This is so horrible. People suffer from cognitive dissonance.
Well spoken Haley. I agree with you totally. Thank You for sorting out my thoughts that I couldn't gather and express. Thank You for being there for folks of like mind.
You speak right out of my heart.
Hi Hayley, I was waiting for your response. As an American still here in Europe...GURL COME BACK (After you get your education finished of course).

Hi Haley, well spoken. There have been insights in this clip that needed to be expressed/said. Thank you for dat!
Hayley for president :)
Thank You for helping me defuse.
Hello! Thank you for saying what many of us are feeling on many levels. Keep being brave and honest.
As a German unfortularely i could not vote for Kamala, but i wished so much i could. Your words ur opinions are mine.
The people who vote for Trump will get their payback but sadly also all the other that did not vote for him.
Good words speechless and broken…
As a German, there are so many things I don't understand about the political system:
- First of all, the electoral college.
10:20 reminds me of what Martin Niemöller said about the Nazis:
"When the Nazis came for the communists, I kept quiet; I wasn't a communist.
When they came for the trade unionists, I kept quiet; I wasn't a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews, I kept quiet; I wasn't Jewish.
When they came for me, there was no one left to protest."
All well said. Know you are not alone.
Being respectful to people who vote for an insane criminal isn‘t necessary imo. However, it honors you that you can still do it.
I think a lot of ignoring will be happening in the future 😂
TDS lol
Besides, the culture where I live is amazing and it feels "alive" where I live, compared to the dull suburds of the U.S.
may i ask where you live now?
@hansmuller3604 In Merida Mexico. Very safe, very nice people.

Just starting this video. I cried all day yesterday and got no sleep. Sooo disappointed in our country
and of course thank you to your work!!
You know where you have a 2nd home... Beste Grüße!
The worst thing is that he serves as a legitimate example for other politicians here in Europe and other parts of the world. Horrible
