Let's go Stray Kids! This is the first video of yours I've come across so apologies if you've gotten the rundown before. SKZ are known for their self-production and multi-level wordplay in their music. Thunderous (Korean title pronounced Sorikkun) is especially full of double and triple meanings. Three of the members (leader Bang Chan, Changbin, and HAN) make up the production team known as 3RACHA. Chan is currently the third most credited idol in all generations by the number of songs he has helped produce for SKZ and for other artists. Changbin is tied with G-Dragon for 8th and HAN is 11th.
The Korean title means "singer" not thunderous, but specifically references a style of traditional Korean storytelling called Pansori, which is usually a singer and drummer. 1:05 the talking rap style is actually Pansori that Changbin is using (he is also using common idiom in that style). The pun comes from the literal translation of the word "sorrikun" which means "master of sound/noise" (hence singer), which they are using to respond to a longstanding complaint about their music being noise music. The album this song is on is called NoEasy (also pronounced Noisy) to further emphasize that not only do they make noise music, but they are masters of the craft. Further still, the Korean word for someone who nags or nitpicks is jansorikkun, so they are also calling out haters.
Visually, they are using the legends of the Dokkaebi (Korean goblins) with the blue flames and animation of them coming from the heavens to cause mischief. The townsfolk are calling for aid against the haters, and SKZ arrive as the thunderous ones to make trouble for them. They also tie a lot of modern and traditional aesthetics with the costume styling and the anachronism of modern vehicles with Joseon era architecture and background costumes. This ties in with the music production incorporating modern sound samples (like car horns) with traditional instruments (like geomungo and drums).
I'm also an Atiny, so I'm not sure if you've watched Kingdom: Legendary War (both SKZ and Ateez competed on the program). I honestly loved the show just to watch all the interactions between groups and the creativity of their live stages. It was technically a competition, but everyone spent more time praising each other. SKZ and Ateez have been long-time friends (Changbin and Wooyoung have been friends since school) and getting to not only see them interact, but also perform together was wonderful.

Kingdom was so amazing! (Except for the tortuous time spent on voting and tabulations) I had heard names of the other groups, but was only familiar with SKZ. I LOVED the massive mutual admiration each group had for everyone else. The collaborations were so amazing (YAY MayFly) But the chance to see a competition where folks weren't wailing, or manipulatins, or scheming & backstabbing opened my eyes to some groups I really enjoyed and want to familiarize myself with.

Thank you for the info! YES! I watched Ateez performance on kingdom! Still gotta go back and check out everyone else as Ateez was the only group I knew about back when I watched it! ✌️

I feel like any stay would sit through a 2 hour guide with you! But interviews are fine as well these boys are so funny! I know you’re not even remotely far in this fandom yet but I would love even if it’s far into the future, for you to react to skz code! Especially their recent one, because with the interviews some of the members don’t talk as much, ( mostly because they don’t feel comfortable speaking English/ its an interview) and I feel like you can learn their personalities even more if you eventually watch skz code! No pressure tho do whatever you want

Stuff like that is certainly possible in the future! Thank you for the recommendation! 🙏

In all honesty, the whole of Stayville would recommend Chandoras Worlds 2 hr guide. It is informative and touches on each members accomplishments, personality, and what they bring to the table when it comes to SKZ.
I personally wouldn't recommend any other guide. Never fear, we will watch it with you. I myself have seen it around 30 or more times. We love watching people discover just how special our boys are.
Kingdom, Legendary War was never about the competition for me. It was about support. Support for your team, and for music and the industry as a whole. They are everyone's hype men, no matter WHO it was. Wooyoung and the rest of the boys all adopted our Felix (deep voice) as one of their own. Behind the scenes is a must.

Me too Phylis, I have watched people react to this guide so often and never get bored. It’s very informative and by the end of it the reactor gains good knowledge of each member and their important roles in the group. This guide is very well made.

Yeah, I really didn't give guides a full chance since I only watched that little from the beginning of one or two, so I will consider it for the future for sure! Thank you for the clarification! 🙏

I'd definitely recommend Teanosuga's and Chandora's World's long guides. Teanosuga's is older (unfortunately she didn't do one for this year, so it would be the 2023 one), but it's really solid, and Chandora's World's for 2024 is really thorough and really up to date. I think a 2025 one might be coming out soon, if you want to wait. Both are really informative and worth sitting through the longer run-times.
You might also appreciate the album Intros when you get around to the non-mv stuff. They're from the official Stray Kids channel and give some great behind-the-scenes and production info from each member, for each album. Or if you want to get into their personalities more, they have a ton of vlogs, variety shows, and more intimate interviews on their channel. I'm thinking One Kids Room, Two Kids Room, and SKZ Code especially.
I hope you enjoy diving down the SKZ rabbit hole!

❤ I dislike guides too. SKZ did something different to introduce the members. They have a song called “fam”, they used live performances. The members introduce each other, with snippets of personality thrown in for each member, it helped me when I first became a stay.

Hola desde Argentina!!! Skz son de lejos la mejor banda de Kpop. Tanto que crearon su propio genero "mala taste". Son unicos. Ojala sigas reaccionando a ellos. Te popondria. Victory song. Doble knot. Distrito 9. Miroh. Easy. Freeze. Get a lit. Top. Charmer. Hall of fame. Hay tantas!!!😂 y obviamente todas sus perfomances en vivo. Especialmente las de kingdom legendary war

Even as they continue to make bangers and amazing MVs, Thunderous will forever be EPIC!
1:00 Changbin's talking rap... I can't find it (I've looked recently) but a reactor somewhere explain about that was specific type that isn't seen much and there's a whole history to it -- I wish I could be more helpful -- just know it isn't random (nothing is random, lol) and I hope to finally re-find that explanation because it was really interesting.
One thing I wish was that sori kun was actually in the title because almost every reactor I saw interpreted what they were hearing incorrectly, which led to a misunderstanding of the line. Can't totally blame them, but I feel it was avoidable. Oh well. On a related note, I recommend checking out the channel "Form of Therapy," specifically "The Kulture Study: Stray Kids 'Thunderous' MV REACTION & REVIEW" because I found it very educational to the actual meaning of sori kun, etc. (for your convenience: ua-cam.com/video/ZboEBNfYAgc/v-deo.htmlsi=yRB34KuvkodGdOma)

They ALL rap and they ALL sing. They don't really feed into the whole "positions" thing by restricting themselves-- which is why they are the shit.

I agree most of the guides are terrible, especially the short ones, thats why so many are recommending Chandora's long one. Ive seen many split it in half. It goes through the important stuff, you could skip any music clips so as to not sooil your reactions.
Its your channel, you do you. Maybe try s bit of hers to see on your own like you said.

The guides are meant to be fun and to help you see them in a less professional way and a more natural way.they are meant to help you get to know their personalities as well as their career successes, but mostly to help you become familiar with with each individual member’s different personalities, likes, and information. Think of them more of a guide to get to know each member not as a guide to learn about their discography or videos necessarily and i think with that perspective they won’t seem as bad. They may be fan made,so choosing the one that fits your vibe best will also help, try watching the first few minutes of each to find one you like best then be open minded to the idea that they are just for extra fun if you’re wanting to get to know more of them individually with your future journey. 🎶🫶🏼✌🏻
