Yes we are actually. We have just messed up too much, and now it's a monumental task to avoid total disaster. We have just a few decades to avoid doom. And when you look at the world today, i just can't see it change in that short time, so yeah we are pretty screwed. And we take about 80-90% of the animal kingdom with us into the abyss.
some of it will not be avoidable, the co² is already up there, and will help the atmosphere warm for decenies to come, what we can avoid, is making things even worse, because worse is not only possible, but it's easy, its' what we are doing every day. But yes, making a meaningful difference is going to take a lot of change, some of it really hard, if we could discover a carbon capture technologogy much more effective than trees, we might have a shot at improving things a lot without having to sacrifice so much, but it's been tried, and for now, it's really far from being enough. And even planting billions of trees is not going to be enough either. The easiest way to help is to reduce energy footprint, and to move use cleaner energy production systems, sadly renewable are hard to scale, as their production is not reliable enough, nuclear is kind of the only option, unless we also find new, improved ways to store energy (currently the most scalable being hydro, but even that depends a lot on the opportunities the landscape provide, you do need very very massive valleys to fill…
We are already seeing signs of climate change, I mean just look at all the snow and ice outside right now and it's not even winter anymore we're in spring now.
@@GabrielPettier Are you sure about the warming air in the Earth's atmosphere? Have you measured air temperature in more than 200 different locations on Earth for at least 30 years? CO2 plays an insignificant role in the greenhouse effect. The main role is played by water vapor and fine dust in large metropolitan areas. Plants need CO2. Plants synthesize O2 from CO2. Don't you need oxygen?
Making electric cars affordable for ppl to purchase who help as well . Alot of ppl definitely want to go green it's just costly
Remember when hybrids (only the Prius) came out it was unaffordable for the average person. Even though they still cost more than a like car that is not hybrid, they’re much more affordable. Hopefully this will happen with electric cars as well. Fingers crossed!

Well, some people are certainly misled but I am a Hardware/Software contemporary of Bill Gates. Bill Gates pretended that there was a difference from Windows 95 to Windows 10. There was not. It was the same software designed to NOT Work with previous versions and it ran slow unless you purchased a New Computer (so guess what? THEY got rich too!).
But then Smartphones came along and suddenly Windows worked on them as well. The first smartphones were slower than desktop or laptop computers at the time. Odd?! Or intentional?
Earth has plenty of e-Waste now, the precious raw materials needed to make computers or other electronics are depleted and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation?? It's a Tax Shelter.

Newer versions of Windows (starting with Windows 95 because, I worked alongside the Product Manager at NEC Technologies in Boxborough, MA at the time and he spotted the fraud immediately, he saw the demo, we shared an office) was PURPOSELY made to require more RAM, more storage and more processing power simply to give the illusion of progress. Windows was purposely made to NOT be backward compatible with previous versions. That meant that if one person in your office "upgraded" then EVERYONE in that office had to upgrade as well - JUST TO read the documents. Remember, companies sent documents to each other electronically so guess what? THEY had to "upgrade" as well. Bill Gates defrauded the public but the real money maker, the real real coup de tât was fooling just enough companies to create a domino effect.
Microsoft Windows was for DESKTOP Computers. They DON'T need to be constantly "upgraded" unless the software running on it needs that (WE didn't get any faster). Except for gaming, there is really no demand from using a Desktop Computer. Gaming by the way, is mostly a demand on the graphics and they are now; whole computers inside your computer, they're called Graphics Cards and yep, they run the Display. Smartphones are just now, FINALLY, starting with the Galaxy S20, almost comparable to a laptop computer in processing speed and memory but their largest processing requirement remains to be the screen, which is far smaller than a laptop or desktop screen.
It's a great indication of Fraud by the way when the Windows and Excel programs that "needed a faster computer" worked just fine on Smartphones when they first came out...
At its core, each "new" Version of Windows had no upgrades, it is a Desktop Computer Operating System, not very good at that and very, very poor at everything else (Server, Enterprise Server, Virtual Machine, etc. Microsoft tried and failed miserably to expand their Market Share into big-boy-now territory as well as the distributed product market). Microsoft had so much money from so much fraud, they were able to block companies that would have made a difference early). The damage from their pretend Windows C++ product used as leverage to purchase the real deal : Borland C++ then proceed to (rename it and) make it for only Windows platforms was *a BIG step backward for technological progress.* THAT Should have been the focus of the Anti-Trust lawsuit brought against Microsoft - a lawsuit dismissed by the way, when Dubya "won" that's right, in quotes : "won" the Presidency.

The technology to defeat a virus is out there in many forms. They defeated hepatitis C by interfering with it's reproductive process by a protein specifically designed to plug into a receptor necessary to do so. For chrissakes... They mapped the entire human genome back in 2003. They now know what specific proteins are in them spikes on the covid virus itself. They can imitate this in a lab and get your body in gear to fight it off and make a vaccine inside 30 days, or through trials get it to do the right thing pretty darn quick. It's amazing! It did not take just 30 days to crank out the vaccine either. The ability to do so has been in the works for decades upon decades now. Be thankful mankind has developed this level of understanding.

I believe in the carrot & stick approach. Make it very expensive to drive gasoline cars but cheap as sin to drive e-cars. Make it cheap for residents/communities to have rooftop photovoltaics for electricity versus buying from the grid. Nothing gets results faster than to get people to feel they are saving money.

Desktop Computers. They DON'T need to have always faster components unless the software running on it needs that. Except for gaming, there is really no demand from using a Desktop Computer, they sit there waiting for us to do something and we don't type any faster now than before. Remember that Smartphones are now, FINALLY starting with the Galaxy S20, almost comparable to a laptop computer in processing speed and memory but their largest processing requirement remains to be the screen, which is far smaller than a laptop or desktop screen.
At its core, each "new" Version of Windows had no upgrades, it is a Desktop Computer Operating System, not very good at that and very, very poor at everything else (Server, Enterprise Server, Virtual Machine, etc. Microsoft tried and failed miserably to expand their Market Share into big-boy-now territory as well as the distributed product market). Microsoft had so much money from so much fraud, they were able to block companies that would have made a difference early). The damage from their pretend Windows C++ product used as leverage to purchase the real deal : Borland C++ then proceed to (rename it and) make it for only Windows platforms was *a BIG step backward for technological progress.* THAT Should have been the focus of the Anti-Trust lawsuit brought against Microsoft - a lawsuit dismissed by the way, when Dubya "won" that's right, in quotes : "won" the Presidency.
Bill Gates has done plenty of harm including using his Tax Shelter; The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for funding news media (PBS, BBC, Link TV) to not produce and air stories that might "tarnish", shall we say? their image. He should never be trusted.

As a Californian resident who has been personally affected by wildfires, it is incredibly disheartening to see people not take climate change as seriously as it is. Every year the fires get worse, devastating homes and lives, and the news does a yearly coverage on it and the world moves on. But we don't. It takes years to recover from even one of our fire seasons, and having them occur yearly and getting worse and worse is devastating. I really wish people could start acting as if their homes are on fire too, because ours certainly are, and no one cares and nothing gets done.

That helps explain why there is a deficit of water in the environment today.

Artificial meat..... I need to look into that...
There are several organizations that are looking into this, in fact there is lab created meat in stores today. Some are taking the same idea that's used to create tissue medically & instead working towards making viable meat products that are real meat. This is tissue samples taken from an animal, but is non lethal and about as painful as going to a vet for the same thing. So animal cruelty by killing animals for meat could be eliminated. Also, it would help to reduce the amount of animals needed & create healthier, better cared for livestock.
The tissue samples are then used with stem cells to make more animal tissue. Stem cells become whatever they are added to, becoming tendons, meaty tissue or whatever. So in a way, that sample could help to make a very large amount of meat grown in a lab so it's sterilized. Most meat is contaminated in the slaughter house where animals are killed. This bypasses these conditions to make meat safer, healthier & more abundant without the costs of large numbers of animals.
Some take a different approach and make a plant based variety of meat. By using various plants, they create a product that has the same texture, taste and visual look of real meat. Both of these would be a smart way to reduce the huge populations of livestock. It would also work with other animals like turkey, duck, deer, and other wild game animals. All without decimating the populations of these creatures.
If the quality is high enough for use in medical replacement surgeries, why would it not be just as viable to use this method to create a lab grown meat for consumption. Science has also made an amazing breakthrough - Fat cells can be used to make stem cells! It's easier and everyone has at least some fat on them somewhere. Which means, we could use our own fat to treat illnesses we have or damage that's been done by having stem cells made to fix the problem. From fat!
That means it would be easy to create stem cells, thus the creation of lab grown meat from tissue samples would be less costly & nearly unlimited. You only need a few cells to start and add the stem cells to... so that small sample could create hundreds if not thousands of pounds of meat - safe, healthy meat that tastes great!
Check out the stores to see if they are carrying lab meat or plant meat products. See if you can taste the difference... We use meat in stews, meatballs, stroganoff & any number of recipes. They've created beef & chicken, the two most popular. They are going to work on others, once these are doing well... It would be great to reduce the need for thousands of livestock animals to feed people. With how much waste there is in the states, it's sad how much ends up in the trash with how many people are going hungry. We can do a lot better than we are doing right now. This is something the human race is responsible for - time to do what we can to make changes. edit: or if that is too big of a shift for you, you can at least heavily cut down on animal products. like only eating them in the weekend or something. the thing is: we have gotten way too used to meat being on the table daily. it used to be something for special occasions, but now it's everywhere. that needs to change if we want to reach our climate goals.
@@89gauna I agree we eat too much, but then we aren't like our ancestors anymore, we've changed. I didn't say it was a good way, but we have changed. Not all of us can deal with going back to plants, our guts would take time to re-calibrate something like that. Plus there are far too many who won't want to change.
So as long as there are huge amounts of livestock making money for their owners - it's going to keep going on.
And get this tidbit - those herds being grazed on public lands by BLM for pennies - most of that meat is for export, with a mere 10% for local sale. These herds are the ones ranchers can't feed at home cause they've another thousand head herd grazing there. These are their export herd to make more money while saving tons of it having them graze on public land. Now that specific land was set aside for the wild mustang & burros. Where are they? Shoved off to poor brush areas where there's little grass, or stuff that's not that good for them. The BLM has also warehoused dozens of herds in places they try to forbid the public despite it not being a private area. Rescuers have had to try to purchase these animals through auctions where the BLM is trying to sell the horses to slaughterhouses. This is disgraceful treatment of these historic animals that helped build this country in the early eras.
We need to reduce livestock for food, not only for the environment, but for the diversity of species. They are trying to "get rid" of mustangs, burros - as well as predators in the area due to ranchers complaining they need their meal tickets protected on public land - our land. The ones benefiting are BLM & ranchers.
It may be difficult, but we need to get meat eaters, I'm one myself. To be more open to not killing their meals. A rare turkey or chicken dinner, rabbit or pork... but the majority should be grown in a lab where it's not going to be contaminated. Eventually, we can shift to grown meat & plants... but we need to get those who are carnivores onboard the nonviolent, nonlethal meat production in a lab. We can't reduce livestock without them cutting way back on dead animals for meat.
Or you could just adopt the diet that has been keeping millions of people healthy and vibrant for decades. The diet that has been proven to lower your chance of diabetes, sexual dysfunction, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and inflammatory disease. Go vegan.

Bill Gates became wealthier than necessary by pretending that there was a difference from Windows 95 to Windows 10. There was not. It was the same software designed to NOT Work with previous versions and it ran slow unless you purchased a New Computer (so guess what? THEY got rich too!).

Tree cover should be increased in leaps & bounds, meat-dairy industry should be regulated, cleaner alternatives should be generated for automobile, power, electicity, transportation, manufacturing industries. Deforestation should stop, plant based agriculture should be promoted. Rivers & it's ecosystems should be protected across the globe for a sustainable planet. A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to take a cruise in the Caribbean. On a side trip to the American virgin island of St. John, I noticed the lack of solar and wind technologies. So, I asked out tour group guide "With all the wind and sun being out about 98% of the time, I'm noticing a lack of use of wind and solar technology." The answer was quick and simple. " The poor can't afford it and the rich don't care." Apparently, the rich are willing to pay any price for diesel to run their generators even if it's $70 a gallon.
I would heat my house with electric... if I could afford it. It's the most costly way to heat a house.
That's probably true for electric furnaces, but have you looked into heat pumps? They work like air conditioners in reverse and are extremely efficient.
I think the only downside is they don't work well in extremely cold environments (there are ground source heat pumps for these areas, but those are more expensive to install for sure).

He mentioned GM because they are still making fuel dependent cars. Tesla already has it locked down. They don't need to go all electric when they already are. GM also makes way more cars than Tesla so the focus should be on them.
Tesla is using decades old technology and only appeals to the "woke". Electric needs to make it past .01% of car sales.
Plug-in hybrid gives best of both especially during the transition. Having a fallback is also desired by customers.
