I remember when the burger king 1st added chicken to the menu my mom wouldn't let me order it. when I was old enough to work, I went and got me a burger king chicken sandwich I hated it.
If available, try the vegan chicken one. (in germany it is called the Long Chicken and there's a vegan option). Imo it's essentially the same (texture, mouthfeel, etc), but better tastewise.
i bought a burger king original chicken sandwich it was salty af like they just took a handful of salt and slaped that shit on there. never again lmao.
I get this chicken sandwich often and I've lucked out and gotten it "fresh" often. I love it.
Keep in mind that everyone fast food join is going to be different. The Wendy's near where I used to work was fantastic and I say this having made Josh's chicken sandwiches before.
It is not that you get it fresh, you just get it on a good day with new oil. Here is what most people do not understand, the oil gets used for a few days, and the quality is based on how new the oil is. Here is what you do, the next time you get one fresh, just go back for the next couple days, and you will see the quality is worse. Then after a few days the quality will be great again once they change the oil. The first job i ever had was at Burger King, and everything looks great for the first couple days of the oil use, but by the third day everything is dark, and gets hard rapidly. Of course the burgers and everything else stays the same daily, but all the deep fried food depends on how fresh the oil is. It is the same at all fast food places, they all use the oil for a few days. Nonetheless, if the oil is fresh or just a couple days old, I would say Burger King has the best chicken sandwich of all the fast food restaurants. Everybody has copied it for years. Burger King always had the mayo and lettuce chicken sandwich, and everybody simply copied it.

I swore I wouldn’t make homemade Mayo again after whisking my life away for the one in your cookbook….but dammit looks like I’m going back on that. Also- buy his cookbook. It’s awesome, and even the condiments he has you make are delicious. I don’t think I can ever go back to store bought ketchup now.
You really don’t need to whisk it by hand. It’s actually pretty easy to make using an immersion blender, and you can even get the consistency pretty thick if you prefer that.
A food processor works just fine! I made it with a little $15 one from Walmart and everyone thought it was the best sauce ever!

For all of you that either try this recipe or just enjoy the bk version here's a foodhack from a former bk employee:
If ordering at bk ask for it extra crispy to ensure the chicken is cooked fresh, there's a little more cronch and the cheese in the next part becomes melty.
Then add tomato, cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce. Optionally pickles and/or onion if you're feeling frisky.
*If you work at bk instead of putting the BBQ sauce on the sandwich and having your other toppings slide around (especially the tomatoes), insert the tip of the bottle into the cooked chicken patty in several spots and fill the patty itself with BBQ sauce.
Tell me that ain't bussin' for a fast food sandwich once you take a bite lol.
**Edited to clarify BBQ sauce goes into the patty once cooked.
Challenge: Do a but better with the rule you have to stay around the same price as the food you are competing with. Anything can be made better if you can use expensive ingredients.
This. Sure, if I spend twenty times the amount of... well, time, five times the money, and having to clean entire appliances, no shit it'll prob turn out better.

The mayo makes a big quantity that you can store for later, you don’t need to grind chicken at home as its readily available at butchers and most grocery stores, and the bread is easily accessible. I think its a small price to pay for much higher quality food.
@@techpriestemily you can get the ingredients with your weekly shopping and even prep the chicken ahead of time and freeze it, would still taste 10x better than bk

Josh, I think one of the things that you need to start doing, out of fairness....not that it'll make a difference, is eat half of the sandwich of whatever it is at the place you're getting it so it is fresh from them. That way it isn't getting nasty in a bag for half and hour or whatever on the way home.

Nah fuck that let him be as extra as he wants! Seeing him obliterate every fast food chain as the garbage they are is the best, and I say this as someone hopelessly addicted to the stuff.
And he’s said before that his own food is left out in the cold on the counter for a bit and not eaten immediately fresh as the camera crew have to prepare everything first, so the fast food has no excuse!

Okay yeah, I'm definitely interested in this one. For fast food, this is my favorite chicken sandwich. I make some at home (with frozen patties) and okay, but not great. Can't wait to see how this goes.
Thank you for spending the extra 5 minutes to make things most people buy! Such as bread, pickle, sausage, etc. It's not being lazy and you give the recipe the respect it deserves while staying in control of the taste.

If you're looking for super soft crust, after you brush with melted butter cover them on the cooling wrack with a tea towel (dish towel i think?) and let them cool. The residual heat/moisture completely softens the crust.

Everytime I get it, it's always crispy, there is plenty of mayo and the lettuce is crisp, but I live in Ireland which tends to have some really good Fast Food Restaurants here (Except McDonalds... man they are hit or miss here)

This was my favorite BK sandwich (not that I eat there very often). But sometime around the start of the pandemic, something changed about them, at least at the BK in my area. Something is 'off' about the flavor. I don't know if it's the mayo or the breading or the oil it's cooked in. Maybe that weird aftertaste you were describing. But they stopped being good- or as good. I've eaten a couple since this change and it's always a big disappointment. But I swear they used to be really good. I worked at BK a long time ago- around the time the sandwich first came out. I always used to time dropping a batch in the fryer around my lunch break so I'd be sure to get a fresh one. (But again, they used to be good!)

I used to get these Bk chickens in the late 90s when they were two for 4. I always asked for double mayo on both sides of the bun. All the difference in the world!

@@_danymal yep it's all trash. Burger King doesn't even taste like the burger king from 10 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they replaced all their products with the impossible (soy product) meats. Chicken nuggets tastes like card board too. How does that even happen?

I didn't recreate the whole chicken sandwich, BUT I did make the chicken patty as an element in a chicken veggie wrap, and it WAS A HUGE HIT!! Using this exact chicken Pattie recipe, but with fresh cut veggies, a garlic Parmesan sauce, and a tortilla, it was AMAZING! I will use this recipe again! Maybe not for the whole BK sandwich thing, but definitely for the same chicken veggie wrap I did. Thank you Papa!
Follow up to my previous post. I remade the same chicken veggie wrap for my parents last night. My Mother immediately said, "I need to get this Chicken Recipe!" Just goes to show what the best aspect of the dinner was. Once again, thank you Papa!

I agree, Josh is good … but most of the time “but better” should be called “but different”. Of course the things he does will turn out better when he uses ingredients the subject item doesn’t use ! That’s not hard… what he should be doing is sticking with the original subject and working within those limits . Basically what he’s doing is saying “here’s a fast food beef burger … im going to see if I can make it better by using filet mignon”…. No shit it’s gonna be better . That’s not a challenge 😂

Haven't had one in years, I still have a craving for it, but only when it's fresh does it taste good. Totally going to make this now, since I don't eat BK anymore.
The original chicken is my go to once a year nostalgia trip when I just want that and only that. There is no comparison the new sandwich, and popeyes sandwich are much better, but the original still has that thing...
Sometimes, 5$ for two fried chicken sandwiches is what works. It's not all butterflies and unicorns for people and perhaps that friendly drive thru person is the friendliest human interaction they've had all day. Both are delicious, thank you.

I've always liked this sandwich. It's simple and satisfying and the Burger King Quality in my country isn't that bad. But It's INSANELY expensive for some reason.
I have been getting these soporifically over the last 25 years and I must say, I love them. Always ask for no lettuce (bk lettuce stinks anyway) and HEAVY mayo. Voila you now have a juicy crispy flavorful sandwich. Oh and don't wait until you drive home and start setting up a UA-cam video before eating them. Right there in the parking lot after getting out the drive thru or bust.

I wish you would have done this with their spicy chicken sandwich. Hands down have not had a better spicy chicken sandwich from anywhere else. I've had the Chick-fil-A spicy chicken sandwiches, KFC, raising Cane's, and some other places. No one beats Burger King when it comes to the spicy chicken sandwich. The slab of chicken I always get on that sandwich is the biggest out of any from any other fast food, or even some actual restaurants. And it's actually spicy. I don't even live in a rich area where they're using higher quality food

Even though this is my favorite item on the BK menu, there are some flaws:
1. Sometimes they’re REALLY DRY.
2. Sometimes not enough sauce
3. Lettuce is not crispy at times, as is chicken.

As a Muslim fan I would love if Josh would tell us what to substitute some ingredients like alcohol or pork products in different recipes. Some of these look hella yum.
Maybe a little bit of chicken thigh deboned as it has more fat than chicken breast instead of pork fat.
I second that, usually I google the substitute. Just made it without the pork and was just amazing.
My suggestion would be to use something like lamb fat or rendered beef tallow
