I really love watching your videos. I love how "down to earth" you both are and the fact that you can have a giglle over things. Your trip looks amazing!!!
Thank you so much! We don't mind having a bit of a giggle when things go a bit silly. Nimal is really funny so I hope I get to capture more of that in future videos 😀 ~ K
Cassowaries are marvelous. I got my lifer last year in Mission Beach. Was having no luck until my last day just before sundown one gave me a great view.
Mission Beach is a great place to see Cassowaries!! That was the last time we saw one there too! And... why is it always the way that it's the last moment just before you leave a place that you get to see one?!🤣 LOL! ~ K
I remember seeing a cassowary on the Dubiji boardwalk with two chicks. The male sat down in a puddle underneath us and seemed to show its offspring which food to eat. One of my best birding experiences ever.
Thanks so much for watching 😀 We were so happy to eventually see such an amazing creature!! It was so quiet & quick though!! One minute there as nothing & next minute we turned & saw it on the boardwalk before disappearing just as fast 😊 ~ K
Great video. When we were up there in 2009 we saw Cassowary in the campsite wandering around picking up fruit and also on a walk just near the campsite with chicks. They are amazing creatures!
It is such a marvellous part of Australia. What a sight getting so close to a cassowary, such vibrant colours on it. I had an experience with a young one and that was quite the thrill, can’t imagine what being so close to a fully grown one would be like. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
@@RogersBirdingHotspots Thanks Roger 😁 Casswaries might be large but they are also very quiet. He just appeared & disappeared in a matter of seconds. Such a great experience 😊 ~ K
Wowww it sure has changed up there since I last visited - much more touristy now. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to the boat trips you are both about to embark on !!!
It definitely was way more touristy than we remembered it from decades ago. Sad really! I don't have any great plans on returning up that way anymore (unless we're just flying in to continue up to Cape York!! ... now that would be a trip & a half!!). I'd definitely go back to the Atherton Tablelands though!! That area was still really nice to visit 😀 ~ K
It truly is persistence!! We were feeling a bit sad that we hadn't yet seen one (everyone we met on the boardwalk each time we were there said they had seen one)) so we figured if we kept trying.... eventually we would see one too! 😀~ K
@@naturephotographychallenge Having people say they saw one is reason enough to keep searching. They are way more difficult to find than quad bikes on the beach 🤦
You are right Nimal, The tropics want to kill you. So many beautiful places, we were up there in 2015 Love the many tropical birds. Stinky Bats I don't remember Cape Tribulation ever been that busy, I was also there in 1993 Certainly some beautiful beaches, especially when away from the crowds. Your patience finally paid off. Thank you for taking us on your adventure. see you on the next one guys, Cheers ~ Joseph 🙏🏼👍🏼🤠
We were just watching your latest video in Sunbury! 😀 Nimal says hi! Yes, the tropics up there are pretty but the crowds now are horrendous! We did unfortunately coincide our trip with school holidays so wouldn't ever do that again!! But as long as we avoided the beaches (which aren't our thing anyway) the boardwalks & natural bushland areas were very nice... and finally seeing that Cassowary was amazing!! ~ K
WOW indeed!!! What are the chances of a Cassowary on the boardwalk😲? I'm stowing away with you on your next trip. Promise I'll be very quiet 🤣. Loved every minute of it. Can't wait for the next one💗
@@pembeata5623 haha! 😁 Would you fit in the overhead compartment? 🤣 Seeing the cassowary was amazing but it must cross the boardwalk often as other people had seen it on our previous visits
Unfortunately I missed out on the Great-Billed Heron on the boatmen daintree river cruise last year, however I had a great time with some great views of my lifer Little Kingfisher. However, I didn't miss out for long, since this year I got the Heron on the Kathrine river, even if it was only brief as it scurried away from the river with a catch. Congratualtions on the Cassowary views, they are a stunner. I have yet to go on the northern side of the Daintree river, so I am a little jealous, however I am sure to get there eventually.
Well you've seen more than we have by getting up to the NT! Hopefully we'll get up there next year. Glad you finally saw that Heron. They are very lovely birds that's for sure. 😀 WeIl if ever you do cross north of the Daintree we would highly recommend avoiding the school holidays!!!! 🤣 ~ K
Hey! I got to watch this to the finish, at long last... Too much goings on here, birding NT. Also problem with internet access, which doesn't help. (Sent an email with some assorted news)
