Thank you for a clear class on fixing my Empire Comfort Systems fireplace. Tech Support on Empire said they offer no information on maintenance & suggested I purchase a new ‘upgraded’ device. Followed your directions, cleaned the firebox & blew out debris in the lighter. Thank you Brett. Respectfully, Rex
Every year I have problems lighting fireplace. Hopefully you can show next time what you have to do. My local pro said to get the canned air and blow out area near ignition area. Also to hold in gas pilot until it is hotter and turns red. This worked! Saves a $100.00 service call. Thanks for video.
We have had an Empire unit since 2014. The company we purchased it from is no longer in business. Thanks to your video & referring to original manuals I was able to light my logs this year for the 1st time without professional help.
I am the Installer. This was GREAT!!! The companies directions SUCKED. All 1 minute videos of how to stack the logs. But, nothing on the hook up and install. And the direction instructions SUCKED. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Older Valve? Hell mine doesn't even have the three wires. This season, my pilot comes on fine, but the furnace burner doesn't light up. I am trying to figure out how to troubleshoot it. I am getting the 20.5 mV at the end of the copper going into the valve. The pilot will stay lit after I turn to "on" but no fire. SO I am assuming the solenoid or etc is not opening up gas. Mine is LPG system. Anyone out there?
We just had one installed yesterday. The pilot and the highest flame setting makes a loud roaring noise. Is this typical? Would you leave the pilot on at all times are turn it off?
The noise you are hearing is the gas leaving the burner. Some units are louder than others unfortunately. It is completely up to you on the pilot. It is perfectly safe to leave the pilot on year round, but I typically turn it off in the summer since the pilot does put out a little bit of heat. I definitely keep it on at all times during the cold months.
@@SpecialtyGasHouse Is there a way to turn the pilot down lower. Reduce the flame? It is a pretty loud swooshing sound. And the pilot flame is so large I feel it is going to hike my gas bill up. It's like a torch. 🤷🏻♀️
You should be able to see a small little blue flame. If you can't see it it is probably not on. If you have one that is pretty hidden, you can put your hand above your logs and feel around to see if you can feel the heat coming off the pilot.
Make sure you are holding the pilot knob in for at least 30 seconds after the pilot is lit before turning it to ON. The thermocouple needs to heat up first or it will go out.
Thank you. The directions in the manual were nearly useless. The illustration was terrible. There was no indication as to where the PILOT position was supposed to be rotated to. I wonder who writes these manuals. All it took to clarify it was seeing that you moved the dial so PILOT was on the left side. Also, as you noted, it might take a little longer than 5 seconds to get the gas flowing to the pilot. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for doing this video. We had no idea what to do when our pilot light went out and your video saved the day!
Glad it helped!

Glad it helped!
Amazing thank u
Life saver thanks bub!
Saved us!!!
great video, thank you,,, now what's the proper procedure to shutting down or shutting off the fireplace?
All you have to do is turn the pilot knob all the way to the right, to the off position.
Thanks a bunch! Very helpful. Now how do we turn this thing off? :)
To turn the pilot light off, turn the pilot knob all the way the the right, clockwise, until it goes out.
mine started sputtering and making a noise. I turned it off by what is the cause and remedy?
I am haveing problems with mine staying on.
i have a empire. heater but pilot stays on and very high is this normal
Yes it is, should be a strong blue flame.

Mine flames then shuts off in an hour. It is a lpg to. The parts are only a year old on it.
Is there a way to adjust height of the pilot light? We get a partial yellow flame.
Unfortunately there is not. You want a strong blue flame. If it is starting to have a little yellow in it, it may be time for service.

@@SpecialtyGasHouse I should've read all the comments before asking. I see you have already answered other's questions. 🙂
How do you know if the pilot is lit?? I cant see mine?

When I turn the control knob to the one position the pilot goes out.
