    One of the greatest books I've ever read in my life. It helped me find the strength to put up boundaries where they were most needed in my life.

    Setting the boundary is easy. It is the flack and/or retribution that follows that unravels me.

      Thank you! And if others are not going to respect / abide by your boundaries, you can't do anything about that. (Especially if you must live with them due to financial or health reasons.)

      His book WILL help! It shows a way to enforce those boundaries in a kind, compassionate, firm way to minimize kickback.

    One of the most loving things you can do for someone you are in a relationship with who is harming you is to stop them.

    It is an excellent book. I listen to him on the New Life Christian program broadcast. He and the other authors give spiritual and practical advice to people on their show. I recommended looking at his other books and other authors on his show.
    We must develop boundaries with people one of the reasons because we have toxic people all around us from family, at work, friends, romantic, etc. There are some people that come into your life who will abuse, used you, and don't care about you one bit.

    After I ended my relationship with the young man that I was planning to marry my sister in law bought me Boundaries in Dating. It was insightful and helped me to see things that I could do better in relationships from here on. After hearing Dave talk about Boundaries, I'd like to get a copy of it too!

    Definitely a classic I often recommend to my congregation! Even Jesus had boundaries. I came across this while expositionally preaching through the gospel of Mark. For those wondering about this angle they can find my sermon on Christian boundaries on my channel.

    Before you know who you are, you have to first know who you're not.
    You are not responsible for other people's irresponsibility or lack of responsibility.

    While I think boundaries can be necessary and good, there is also a danger when people misconstrue the message given here. This Boundaries Book has destroyed my family. The "boundary setters" in my family have let it empower them and give them permission to cut people off unnecessarily before seeking to reconcile or work things out. Has anyone else experienced this?

    • @IWantMyCountryBack2
      @IWantMyCountryBack2 4 роки тому +5

      I suspect the "boundary setter" was harboring some serious resentment.

      Yea people have corrupt hearts and if they start to cut people off because they don’t cater to their heart’s desire then it’s wrong. I think we as Christians should be proper stewards about how we act and to act in love.

    People can take the "boundaries" idea too far. I know people who have read the book and cut off their families. In the name of "boundaries" they've caused a lot of hurt and sorrow.

      Sometimes that’s what you gotta do. Just because they share your DNA doesn’t give them the right to proceed being toxic in your life and allows them the ability to drag you down. They are like any other human being on the street, and the more people come to terms with this the better things will get for a lot of people.
