I love your pond! I am in the US and my garden ponds are all above ground. I so enjoy the wildlife in my garden. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Congratulations - what a beautiful garden with lots of habitats! It is great to see all the wildlife you are attracting. Thanks for helping swallows, amphibians and so many other animals. I love frogs and want to thank you for checking the lawn before mowing to avoid killing the little ones. The European common frog is already endangered where I live in Central Europe so I really appreciate your efforts. This is proof that you don’t need a huge area to encourage wildlife. Just step away from manicured lawns and you will be rewarded with bustling life. I could literally spend hours with or without my camera watching all the insects and other creatures in my little garden and every year I detect more species. I wish you a gardening year full of beautiful observations!
Thank you for sharing this video. 2 weeks ago I dug my first ever pond (which still looks like a muddy puddle ATM)! I've learned a lot from your video, including points not seen anywhere else (aquatic soil/swallows for example). Much appreciated. Thanks again. Cheers
The pond looks good. Did you manage to add a lot more oxygenators? So cute to see the small frogs😍 At the moment I have a temporarily mortar tub pond with plastic nursery pots. And I have a corner border with a buddleja and other plants. Lots of flies and hoverflies are attracted by it. Last year I had a lot of damselflies and dragonflies visiting the pond. I studied their behaviour and loved seeing them hunt and munch on their pray. They definitely starting using the perch more, when I moved some pots around and free up space around the tub. I had also a lot of wasps visiting the pond for water and their wood pulp for nest making. Would love to start on an upgrade for the tub soon🥰🌿🌾🪰🐦🐝
I haven't added much more - I will probably need to add more plants next spring. I'll also need to cut back some of the existing vegetation. It sounds like you are ready to dig a pond! I started the same way - I had a temporary pond which was effectively a tub - it was a sheet of pond-liner supported by a wooden-frame, and was similar to a paddling pool. I learned quite a bit from having that for a year before I dug my the actual pond.
@@JohnSmythGalway yes, I can't wait to upgrade the tub. My only dilemma is that we decided that we are going to move to a slight bigger house with much bigger garden in the near future. So digging a big, real pond isn't a wise option anymore at the moment. So I'm looking into something smaller and temporarily that is easy to break down and take with us. But ideally still is partially dug in the ground, to protect from frost. I was thinking about buying a cheap, preformed pond and line it with industrial fleece, sand and boulders, to mimic Joel's style pond. But your option sounds good to, but maybe with concrete blocks instead of wood. I guess i still have a lot of 'pond'ering to do😉😅🤔 I'm looking forward to your future videos with your progress, I have subscribed😀👍🏻🌿🌾💧

Lovely pond and a good video, thanks.
What a lovely pond, so lovely to see a habitat being provided when we humans have removed so much. Love what you are doing.
