Longitudinal V twin. The crankshaft runs front to back. Harleys etc are transverse V twins. Crankshaft runs side to side. Everybody knew this 50 years ago when I got my first Guzzi but somehow the language has changed.
This is not the 'first' bagger. I had two 1978 V1000s which could be baggers without a stretch of imagination. Still I really like this bike, its very nice. And for once, someone does a good review without crappy music. Good job !
Not transverse, longitudinal. The rotational axis of the engine is fore and aft. To clarify, the BMC front wheel drive cars were said to have transverse engines, the rotational axis being across the car.
984francis In bikes Moto Guzzi are considered transverse because it is transverse to the frame (or different than everyone else). You aren’t wrong on your explanation/reasoning, it’s just that the bike world has already sided against you... and don’t blame me, I told them to name it “awesome motor mounting” they told me to pound sand.....
The batwing fairing is reminiscent of the batwing turn signals on the '80s Lemans IV and Lario. Very cool.

Do they make MGX-21 for the right-hand side of the road here in the U.S. :)
Lol
Buy the left lane model. With ABS brakes, no worries!
Good review.
I love this bike. So frickin' sexy...
