You're the first one I've seen who understands that the writes are playing a classic trope here with Chief mistrusting Cortana at first, and we'll be rewarded in the end. EDIT: Also the reason we don't see something like that in the games is of course for the sole reason that said bond has already been formed, as Chief has been partnered with her for several years already when we see them both for the first time. Just magically having that bond straight away so to speak, would've just felt rushed.
The above take is from someone who have played all of the games, as well as read all of the Halo books except Halo: Bad Blood, simply due to the fact that I have not been able to find it in my country.
The worms are basically a highly intelligent worms that when the come together as a community they can build into a shape or use armor, in the games these worms are the hunters and in the show we see a hunter leg as the worms drop out, in one of the live action films we see more of the worms and they basically act like they do in the show. I do not want to give to many details how they get John but in the flash back we do see a coin which is a reference to one of the animated films where he talks with Hasley as a child, so i think you might be right that he inadvertently activated the artifact that made the covenant come while Jonh was offworld with Hasley and ether they passed on a virus or they strait up killed everyone and glassed the planet but it was blamed on a virus.
I feel like it actually helps that she's animated instead of being an actress in a blue overlay. She looks more like a hologram that invented her appearance that way.
The Cortana character is voiced by the very same woman who voiced her in the games, so I suspect her performance at this stage here is a very definite choice.
Came here for Aaron’s reaction, not going to lie. Okay, all flaws in the show aside, the addition of Cortana GREATLY increased my enjoyment. It is just awesome to hear Jen Taylor and have her avatar be tinged blue (thank God) and this is like the culmination of 20 years of playing the character. Just great to see.
As soon as I saw this scene, I was like "Oh man, Aaron is NOT going to like this... Can't wait to see his reaction!" It was everything I could've hoped for.
The lekgolo is a worm species that are in the covenant, you would recognize them as Hunters or Scarabs, as those enemy types are made of lekgolo colonies, hunters being a colony that form one conscious and split into two "bond brothers," and I don't remember much of the scarab. I don't think they ever separate into individual worms (except for once in 5 that I can remember) in the games so it makes sense yall wouldn't recognize them. Aaron recently heard a mention in Halo 2 about the "Taming of the Hunters," which is about this species. There are many other variations of how they take shape, such as The Colony in Halo Wars 2, but I imagine yall have only seen the two I mentioned prior. Now this is all going off memory so forgive me if I'm off, but loved the reaction and the halo 2 stream

Yep, here all about Aaron's reaction. The moment of recognition at what was about to happen and the resulting "oHH Na-Ooooooooo..." did not disappoint.
Those worms are the hunters, if you see the Hunters in the games they are made of worms the are essentially a colony of those worms called Mgalekgolo. So if you were thinking those were the flood or something like that nah, they are not the flood. The flood is literally the zombies of Halo so they would be following the orders of someone. Also she can't control them with the mind, it's just like she is ordering them like a superior, or like an Elite in the games would tell the hunters what to do.
I really like this show. I feel like it gets better each episode. Can't wait for the last 6 to see some action. It's really a good standalone game adaptation.

"Emergency Contact Protocol Upsilon" in the lore is actually directly related to the Flood. It is a protocol used to limit Flood expansion and initiate full quarantine.
No , it's an Easter egg. For reference Sorens real backstory in core canon is his parents both died from a plague and he was adopted in the Spartan program because he "volunteered". I wouldn't be surprised if they're borrowing this. The Flood makes zero sense for the show narratively at this time and would put wayyy too much on the plate of viewers before finding Halo
It's not the Flood, Is a reference to the first option to reclute the kids for the Spartan program, simulate a salvation and tell the kids their planet and families died for a disease, but Halsey go for tell them the truth and hope being honest be enought to avoid revenge from the Spartans, in this show, looks Halsey dont care lie for years
Hearing Jen Taylor in this show is so weird but equally amazing. With the show being so different from the canon, it's nice to have one thing that's the same; the voice of everyone's favorite AI giving the Master Chief information with her soothing voice. I swear I teared up a little. Really hope they can turn the ship around. Episodes 2-4 have all been very slow. It's time for some action! Hell, we haven't even seen any other races than the Sangheili and the San'Shyuum. I wanna see a full on Spartans, Marines and ODST's VS Covenant forces scene. I also want more Halo music. Time to stop this generic sci-fi crap and dip into Halo's unique soundtracks! Come on, we deserve it!
As I watched the ep my emediate thought was "I can't wait to see Aaron's reaction". I generally don't have issues with needles but even I was cringing when it went into her eye.
Besides the fact that I read somewhere, how this show had wrapups in Hungary, I was genually surprised to see my everyday "get-to-work-public-transport" appear as a kinda high-tech space train... Most of the time Budapest appears as out-of-time or old towns, so it was nicely fresh to be finally modern, ya' know.
Cortana is played by the same voice actress from the games. If you think she sounds similar to Siri here, that could be because Jen Taylor also voiced the Cortana phone/PC virtual assistant app, which was meant at one time to rival Siri.
I've been playing Halo since Combat Evolved, and this show is doing it justice so far. Screw the haters. Also, this episode showed us which fans didn't even know beforehand that the hunters are composed of a bunch of worms :p
Having Austin Powers as your AI implant is a hilarious idea. I'm picturing him just popping up saying "YEAH baby" at random moments. I couldn't have Ryan Reynolds as my AI because he'd be too funny and I'd just be giggling to myself all the time, looking like a PSYCHOPATH.
Just in case y'all are wondering what those worms are, Lekgolo worms + armor = Mgalekgolo/Hunters. So that was a Hunter's leg gou guys saw for less than a second.

If you all want backstory of the rubble the book "The Cole Protocol" is great and how far they stretched everything, decide for yourself. I also recommend the movies "the fall of reach" (animated) for backstory of john/chief, "Forward Unto Dawn" for what I was hoping for as a feeling of this series, As well as the games but I understand its alot to take in
Jen Taylor voices this Cortana as well as the one in the games. This certainly is a personality shift from the games and I hope like you guys said that she’ll develop to where Chief and Cortana become like they do in the games. I’ve said it before, I think the destinations (in terms of plot) will be the same as the games but the journey to those destinations will be different.

first ep is semi-good, second is ok, third is what has sold me on it tbh I was on fence on whether or not to keep watching but ngl Ep3 has got me interested in seeing where it goes and its defo non canon which is a godsend considering how much shows and movies usually fuck up established canon.
You are 100% on it. The first episode was really good to me, but the second was a major slowdown, it wasn't low quality, just slow. This third on though, this has hooked and reeled me. You are even more right about the fucking up canon crap so many franchises do. Never understood why people are angry that this is a non-canon series, would they rather risk the pretty awesome thing going on in Bungie/343verse, or be able to enjoy this series, or not enjoy it and just go back to Infinite or MCC.
@@elliotjohnson9415 I enjoyed it when it was John and the other spartans... the Madrigali sup-plot needs to go it real Just kills the pacing of the main plot line.
@@elliotjohnson9415 Yeah, it is still pretty slow, but I can definitely see where this is headed and I am really excited. When Kai said "sacred ring, Halo" and the choir started going ham I was so excited. Really like what they did with Kai too.
There’s a lot of answers To give from the games to the to why he’s a blessed one but it could spoil game lore (not that the show will follow any of it) so…. I have no idea why, what a mystery.
I am surprised they didnt recognize the hunter leg to the left of Makee when the worm seperated from it, Hunters were in Reach as well as Halo 1, and they have played those games
You are probably right about that. Similar to the Snyder cut, it is mediocre as a series because of the slower chapters, but as a nice, long movie it is an amazing film. It kinda feels like we have waited two weeks since last episode because the excitement of the first episode was so high, but these few slower episodes will feel less so if sandwiched by old fashion halo, electric guitar and Mjolnir ass kicking episodes.
I think that John’s mom was buried in the ground and the hole is her grave and I think that John was forced to join the spartan program by his dad who either did not feel adequate enough to raise John by himself or he felt that John was somehow responsible for the mom’s death, also I think that the dog is a creature that was somehow created by the artifact.
The Spartans when taken had a clone that took there place as to not draw attention. but cloning was still early back then so a lot of the clones would develop disabilities or just die after a few years.
Yeah, I'm with Aaron on that eye scene. I dislike eye gore so much I didn't even watch it; I just held my hand over that part of the screen the entire time. Why couldn't the machine snag the brain through the nose, like in ancient Egypt?

I wouldn't be surprised if they're borrowing this. The Flood makes zero sense for the show narratively at this time and would put wayyy too much on the plate of viewers before finding Halo
I think the virus is a cover-up
It's not the Flood, Is a reference to the first option to reclute the kids for the Spartan program, simulate a salvation and tell the kids their planet and families died for a disease, but Halsey go for tell them the truth and hope being honest be enought to avoid revenge from the Spartans, in this show, looks Halsey dont care lie for years
Aaron... needles... I say no more 😂😂
Hearing Jen Taylor in this show is so weird but equally amazing.
This entire reaction video was just me waiting for that moment when Aaron would FREEEEAAAAAK OUT and it did not disappoint.
Thank you Aaron, you exceeded my expectations
BTW Omn1Media Called you out on this "Dude Aaron is gonna love this over on Blindwave" ;P
As I watched the ep my emediate thought was "I can't wait to see Aaron's reaction". I generally don't have issues with needles but even I was cringing when it went into her eye.
Just here for Aaron’s reaction!
Is ironic that he was wearing a Daredevil shirt. 😂😂🤣
Oh also those worms were what the massive Hunters look like under there armor!! Hundreds of them that’s why there so strong!!!
Kai is my favorite character of Halo
Besides the fact that I read somewhere, how this show had wrapups in Hungary, I was genually surprised to see my everyday "get-to-work-public-transport" appear as a kinda high-tech space train... Most of the time Budapest appears as out-of-time or old towns, so it was nicely fresh to be finally modern, ya' know.
13:21 Hunter's in Halo are comprised of a colony of worms called Lekgolo.
I was here for the Needle reaction, Also Needle had to go in like that because it needs to penetrate the bone that's behind our eyes.
Calvin wanted to punch Aaron so bad at 4:15 its all in the eyes XD
Having Austin Powers as your AI implant is a hilarious idea. I'm picturing him just popping up saying "YEAH baby" at random moments.
I couldn't have Ryan Reynolds as my AI because he'd be too funny and I'd just be giggling to myself all the time, looking like a PSYCHOPATH.
Just in case y'all are wondering what those worms are, Lekgolo worms + armor = Mgalekgolo/Hunters. So that was a Hunter's leg gou guys saw for less than a second.
Ooh boy if the "disease" is the Flood, it'll be Christmas extremely early.
It's not the Flood, Is a reference to the first option to reclute the kids for the Spartan program, tell the kids their planet died for a disease, but Halsey go for tell them the truth and hope being honest be enought to avoid revenge from the Spartans, in this show, looks Halsey dont care lie
If you all want backstory of the rubble the book "The Cole Protocol" is great and how far they stretched everything, decide for yourself. I also recommend the movies "the fall of reach" (animated) for backstory of john/chief, "Forward Unto Dawn" for what I was hoping for as a feeling of this series, As well as the games but I understand its alot to take in
The second that Cortana spoke for the first time, I knew that it was Jen Taylor from the games.
Yeah the sec I watched the needle scene I was like oohhh Aaron's not gonna like this 🤣. Did not disappoint!!!!
Poor poor Aaron, he ain't gonna like this one!! Lolol I however, will likely get some serious enjoyment from the poor guy's suffering 🤣🤣🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ Can't wait to see this one 👍🏻
Cortana is played by the voice actress from games btw.
Awesome tshirt Rick!🤘
The "Long Neck Aliens" are the High Prophets of the Covenant: Mercy, Truth, and Regret.
first ep is semi-good, second is ok, third is what has sold me on it tbh I was on fence on whether or not to keep watching but ngl Ep3 has got me interested in seeing where it goes and its defo non canon which is a godsend considering how much shows and movies usually fuck up established canon.
Did you both enjoy episode 4? I thought it was great, really well done.
"Rubble...Barney...trouble." Nice quote, Rick. 👍
13:01 Gladius class corvette,has a "MAC"
Aaron watching though the mesh of his chair is the funniest shit I've seen in ages.
What’s awesome is it’s the same voice actress from the game!!!
I am surprised they didnt recognize the hunter leg to the left of Makee when the worm seperated from it, Hunters were in Reach as well as Halo 1, and they have played those games
I feel like this show is gonna play a lot better on a binge rather than watching weekly. I’m still really enjoying it though
Another amazing reaction
Good thing the original voice actor did Cortona again for this show I can’t imagine anyone else doing the voice
hes considered blessed because he is a forerunner decendant
worms are hunters from the games, just not in "hunter" form
I think that John’s mom was buried in the ground and the hole is her grave and I think that John was forced to join the spartan program by his dad who either did not feel adequate enough to raise John by himself or he felt that John was somehow responsible for the mom’s death, also I think that the dog is a creature that was somehow created by the artifact.
18:13 the master chief dogs lol
The Spartans when taken had a clone that took there place as to not draw attention. but cloning was still early back then so a lot of the clones would develop disabilities or just die after a few years.
the voice actress for the games is the same person voicing live action cortana
Aaron is totally me!!! It reminds of the worst scene I played in a video of Dead Space 2!
Those worms are what form the Hunters.
14:27
Monster
She's my favorite
Monster
She's my beautiful
Monster
She's a monster, yeah
Come on in my bed
Come on pretty monster gimme
13:14 = Hunters... So pumped to see that!
Can't believe you guys like this show
Thoroughly enjoying the show so far. Loving the reactions!
Cortana is so hot....
The dude second from the left looks so much like Aquaman aka Jason Mamoa doppelgänger big time but just a smaller shorter version of him LOL..
Was watching this earlier and knew I had to see the reaction after a certain scene
Cortana has the same voice actor in the show as the game if anyone didn't know
9:28 TOP Reaction 🤣🤣🤣
Love the Snatch reference
Yeah, I'm with Aaron on that eye scene. I dislike eye gore so much I didn't even watch it; I just held my hand over that part of the screen the entire time. Why couldn't the machine snag the brain through the nose, like in ancient Egypt?
I knew Aaron would love this episode. 😂
I am a lifetime halo and halo story fan. I am also intelligent enough to separate the fact this show is not canon to the game. With that being said they are doing a great job building backstory and Cortana is AMAZING. The only thing that is too slow paced and uninteresting is the rebellion refugee storyline…so far anyway.
Part of this is probably because unlike a lot of media now, it’s a week at a time
oof you guys keep lying to yourselves as this shit gets worse each week. I get the coping but still
@@randalthekidd7006 coping? Sorry I don’t exclusively live in 2007. I started in like 02 or 03 with CE.
