Well it’s the male of course and he’s very loud - I have filmed them doing it and in the water with them only a few metres away where it makes the little bits of water in your mask bounce and your chest and feet tingle. He’s probably boasting how fit he is to any female who will listen but no one knows for sure!
@@IndoonaOceans I'm joking about how the sound of humbacks is the same voice Big daddies use. Their vocal cords get ripped out and replaced with the animals somehow as i remember. And when hearing this video it sounded so similar i remembered that out of no where so thought some other Bioshock fan might get it.
Ha - sounds like it but no - they have special sound organs - a fold in the windpipe coming out of the lungs is thought to vibrate and then two kinda ballon like structures further along allow the vibration to resonate like a soundbox. It’s all internal so no bubbles.
It’s certainly a passionate song - was reminded today that the person who discovered it - Roger Payne - died on the 10th June aged 89 I think - great man. How complex the ‘meaning’ of it is is debatable- after all we don’t question the meaning of a blackbird song - it’s just a colourful way of defending its territory perhaps? I was lucky enough to dive wth a humpback male singing - I was 50 feet away and felt the tingling in my feet and chest and saw little drops of water bouncing in my mask with the power!
Hello. I would really like to use some of this in a composition that I am working on. Could you please advise me who I should contact for permission? Thank you.
Hi Andrewduff3664 - for non commercial personal use you may sample it - it is ours but of course the true copyright holder is the whale! For commercial use - especially if you are a fabulously successful rock star we can come to some deal. Just to note all the YT copyright bots flagged this as not my copyright at first because they don’t distinguish between different humpback whale recordings ( all their songs differ and even in a single individual change each year) - so I had to dispute the claim which can take 30days as you may know
Hi, thanks for getting back to me. So far, I have not reached super successful rock star status but if, by some miracle, my music should become a hit, then of course I would be delighted to talk about a deal. I would be very happy to share my composition here when it’s finished and discuss what is going on musically. Thanks again, Andrew.
@@andrewduffguitar Hi - that's great - come back and do a Zoom or something and I can cut it over your music - could be useful for you too I hope. Email me on John@Hiddenpictures.co.uk when you are ready.
Don’t worry it’s pretty harmless- I’ve dived right next to a singing humpback and it just stays still. Makes your feet tingle and the water at the bottom of your mask bounces with the power of the sound though !
Amazing
Ascoltare questi suoni è molto meglio che ascoltare le parole di tanti esseri umani. Grazie!
I love the way mothers ditch the calves. Swim away when calves are asleep. Why didnt we know that when our kids should have left home.
Good point but I'm sure she was in touch near by!
Absolutely beautiful I wonder what they are saying to each other

Memories of Bioshock.
not sure what you mean to be honest but perhaps things like noise pollution underwater?

Why do they do it? Why do we whistle?
No one really has a definitive answer but it is done by mature males so probably courtship/ territorial
are the whale songs accompanied by music?
No these are the pure real sounds of a male humpback singing- recorded off Hawaii I think.
are they in pain?

Wonder why Nathan Prescott loves this.
I don’t know - life is strange I guess?!
I wonder if we will ever be able to tranlate what the whale is actually saying .

Just as a thought you could showcase your completed work here and I could do a brief interview with you to go with it?

the intro is unnecessary
You are probably right - would be less work too!
