Thanks so much for these videos and simple explanations (these videos helped put the slope of the curve into perspective)... When I saw the chain rule in class today.. I was intimidated... but with your simple explanation I understand a WHOLE lot better now :)
Its because f(x) is the outer function and clearly we can see that in this example that the outer function is sqrt of x (in pink) therefore f(x)=sqrt(x) :) hope this helps :)

Shouldn't the answer be simplified to (6x-1)/(2sqrt(3x^2-x) ?
