Even though Reus won a small number of important trophies he´s still one of the best German football players of this century and he´ll be remembered by many for his great career and specially for being loyal to Borussia Dortmund since he joined in 2012.

Now that he’s no longer a Borussia Dortmund player many people will look back at Marco Reus’ time there and bring up the fact that he spent majority of his career at one club, didn’t win either the Bundesliga or the Champions League. He has to be one of the most unluckiest players I’ve ever seen because he has faced so many setbacks like injuries and heartbreaking defeats in major finals and he seems to have bad luck. He is a club legend a brilliant player and what he did there in terms of his loyalty and staying committed to a club where he saw many players come in and out is something that is rare from a lot of players. He embodies that and professionalism. I don’t understand why people criticize certain players for staying at one club for so long.
A player wants to be remembered for winning trophies not finishing runner up in the league or lose a final as history only remembers the winners, sometimes we have to acknowledge the game goes beyond the amount of accolades you’ve won and Reus’ time at Dortmund is a prime example on how the game isn’t just about winning trophies. Just like his former and current teammates, he could’ve went to Real Madrid Barcelona Manchester City Bayern Munich etc in search of trophies, he wanted to remain loyal to his boyhood club and while it did come at a cost for him, he is the greatest player to have ever played for Borussia Dortmund and he left a lasting legacy there despite his lack of trophies. We don’t see many players like him. He wanted to remain at Dortmund for a little longer and he even tried to take a pay cut, unfortunately they didn’t let him stay for another year and he’s a club legend and he’ll be missed by Dortmund fans.

Reus was able to reach his potential but the club or country performance wasn't there for him like other people in bvb or germany just never impact when marco reus played or the opposition just had a better squad than BVB.
Injury is just bad luck for him

Corrections for 2:21 - Borussia Dortmund had actually won two Bundesliga titles in a row back in 1995 and 1996, which was during the Ottmar Hitzfield's era, then proceeded to win the (only) Champions League in 1997, despite not making a 3-peat. Interestingly enough, the same pattern was (almost) happened during Jurgen Klopp's era: they won Bundesliga back-to-back in 2011 and 2012, which was followed by a good Champions League run in 2013.

I was really sad when Dormund lost to Real Madrid especially because they had so many chances in the 1st half and still coudn't finish the job, and unfortunately that second goal was just a shame, so i believe the final result doesn't dictate the intensity of this match, still I think Marco Reus should be proud of his career in general even with its flaws cause he is undisputably Dortmund's greatest player of all time!

Dortmund has had many legends over the years for being one of the greatest German clubs and one of the most consistent European giants. Much more successful than PSG. Marco Reus is a phenomenal player, but his lack of trophies and injuries saw him miss out on a lot and his career is a massive “what if”. Luck has always been against him and you have to feel bad for him. He has lost some major finals, due to injury he missed out on Germany’s World Cup winning team in 2014 and many people have known this about him for a while, but he never won a single league title in his career. Just a reminder that in 2012, he returned to Dortmund the season after they won the Bundesliga. In his prime, Bayern Munich were a force in German football and they were dominating the league for a decade winning 11 consecutive titles in a row and last season was their best chance to end their dominance and he should’ve had a league title by now, but they let the title slip out of their hands on the final day of the season and lost the league on goal difference. After all of these runner up finishes, 2023-24 Bayern Munich’s dominance in the Bundesliga finally ended, but Bayer Leverkusen won the league while going undefeated meanwhile Dortmund finished in 5th place. In his debut season at Borussia Dortmund, they lost the champions league final to Bayern Munich. He has been unlucky with injuries as it’s caused him to miss out on major international competitions with Germany picking up an injury at the wrong time. Before the 2014 World Cup, he was selected in the Germany squad and a week before the tournament started he got injured missed the rest of the tournament only for Germany to then win the World Cup in his absence. He would’ve been a World Cup winner without injuries. His last ever game for Borussia Dortmund was a champions league final at Wembley a stadium where he lost in the last time he played a UCL final and it would’ve been the perfect script for him seeing him lift the trophy in his last game for the club. As soon as he was subbed on against Real Madrid they conceded and overall he lost that game which ended a successful and unlucky career at Borussia Dortmund. With all due respect, Real Madrid are honestly overpowered in champions league football. Great player and we have to praise him being with his boyhood club for so long and he’s such a likable player, but you can argue that he could’ve won more and his career should’ve gone better that’s not how things were supposed to end for him.

He's not unlucky, he's loyal to the level it becomes stupidity. He had the chance to achieve greatness, he had the chance to have an outstanding career but he ruined it by his own hands. Loyalty doesn't mean shit in football if you don't win anything with it. I feel bad for him, but he's the only one responsible for his failure.
