And now they're getting annoyed because some players are becoming more vocal about this issue. As if they're not gonna be like that if the game will deprive its players of waifus lol. They don't want the devs to listen to all, they just want the devs to do what they want (proven with Scar's zipper and Taoqi didn't even get a boobie debuff btw). It's one of the factors why ToF declined back then and hope it won't come to Wuwa's way too but seeing as male enjoyers are getting shutdown, welp...

I mean was Xiangli Yao not enough to prove that men actually do sell? Did you see how many simps he had on first glance and how many people wanted him. They even RC6 him and everything on the first day he even came. Like men do sell and we need more men characters. And we are also in need of a Yuanwu and Calcharo story quest as well.
agreed, we want more quest related to current resonators, especially the 5s ones... it's not making sense as calcharo not even have any appearances in main/side quests even tho we can get him as resonators.. if kuro just want to make his appearances on later patch better they should waiting him for to be released as we came to New Federation region something like that

Actually thats a good point. I could definitely see the "free male unit" as a litmus test for how well male units will sale. They give it out for free - hes strong - how much "extra" is sold? Luckily I pulled for his weapon, so that would support it I hope. That could be them testing "how many male units should we make and how strong should they be?" etc. before they get to Geshu and Scar (could repurpose their kits for waifus if they think males wouldnt sell. Hopefully they got the stats they needed from Xiangli Yao to show we want male units.

It's not just a husbando issue. I remember one reason people were complaining about Zhezhi was because she wasn't "a mommy character" like Yinlin or Changli. It's not that some people are pushing for only female characters, but also that they're pushing for only a specific type of female character. Imagine if we get a limited 5-star loli character like Encore or Verina. If Youhu had been 5-star people would have rioted over it.
People say Zhezhi is mid cuz of that and it pissed me off. They rate character based on who's sexier and that's suck

I agree. I'm primarily a husbando collector and started playing cos of the design of the men, which are the best designed ones in all gacha. I fell in love with the women too... but i'm worried that it will be 4 months without a male release based on drip marketing. My disappointment is real, ngl

The fact that calcharo has no character story and wasnt present during the 1.0 quest even tho he is quite literally stronger than jiyan is such a wasted potential. The fact that the experiment log showed that he has not just his own resonance forte but also tacet discord forte could make him an important figure in the ovathrax siege is such a missed opportunity
The fact that not even the whole armada of the new federation and the midnight rangers couldnt hold down calcharo is such a powerful aura that kuro placed on calcharo but ultimately just stagnated him in the current roster
Its so funny how yuanwu was introduced AT THE LAST MINUTE of the main story even there was alot pf moments during the first three chapters where kuro could introduce him.

The only reason you should be told to fuck off from the game is if you know the ratio's supposed to be 1:3 and you're still unhappy. That's the ratio the devs have promised, so like I said in another comment, it's a take it or leave it thing and even though not only I favor husbandos, I'm full-on bisexual irl, I don't see how whining about this is gonna help UNTIL the devs have broken their promise. Which they haven't, considering that when you count the number of males and females, it still respects the 1:3 ratio.
i disagree... genshin has more females then males..... it would only be a problem if they only where releasing female characters, but they haven't, they gave us a male this patch, just like they did on there first patch, the game just came out, and people complaining about the lack of males is just dumb to me. it would be one thing if they only put out female characters, like if we still havnt gotten a new male character after all these updates he would have a point, but they haven't. in fact they gave us a 5 star meta dps for free just this update.

@@Matthew-ij3zm? This is incorrect. It’s literally not 1:3. We had 4 back to back female banners between Jiyan and XY. We now have 5 upcoming female characters before the next male. That is literally factually not 1:3

I’m surprised I’m not seeing more male characters getting announced for the big gacha’s like Hsr and WuWa after the way Love and deep space dominated sales in August
Not even the same type of game. Love and deepspace is a dating sim mixed with some action gameplay. Long interactive cutscenes, chatting, etc. The percentage of the player base that's female is way higher than it is for a game like WuWa.
Won't happen for a while because development cycles. everything up to half a year+ is already planned and in the works, possibly more. What happens past that tho remains to be seen.
That's an otome game tho, completely different target audience filled with waaaay more woman or male lovers. Plus it's the only high budget otome game I have seen, and another factor is the game is only on mobile that huge number is literally all of their revenue compared to other games that have PC clients or are on console and aren't displayed on revenue charts.
Even in ZZZ the only upcoming males are lighter (probably in 1.3) and a guy named murasa or something… from miyabi’s faction. Which brings it to only like 6 playable males
For genshin, kinich got a lot of hype compared to mulani, he’s coming tmrw. And for hsr, very awaited character Sunday will most likely arrive soon in 2.7

People are getting REALLY mad for this take and I'm like- "why is wishing for a more equal gender ratio so bad?", plus, the game hasn't been marketed as a waifu only game, but a husbando game too. I hate using this terms but it's to get the point across that this isn't a "you chose a game that wasn't targetted for you" scenario.
Why even have men in your game at all if you're gonna treat a part of your playerbase differently and have such a low number of men lmao.

I completely agree with you. I played Wuthering Wave for Camellya but I really wish there was more diversity. Otherwise they accustom us to looking only for female characters, which harms the post-apocalyptic atmosphere. The lack of variety might scare off fans. But I think Kurogame will be very reactive on this point if everyone asked for more male characters in their investigation. I think we will have new male characters in 1.5 or 1.6. You just have to be patient. I would like a roadmap. We would see future characters there
Sadly up to 2.0 has been leaked and there are no males in 2.0 either….2.1 would be the soonest which is half a year away…

Off topic, it always baffles me that most games have playable little female characters, but 0 playable little male characters. Like why? The closest players might get are tomboy female archetype.

I think a lot of people not seeing the bigger picture here. Live service games are usually planned for months in advance, there's a high chance characters from 1.0 to 2.0 were planned for months prior and got a green light. It would be hard to do changes at this point so they'll just go for it. However if people could remember the interview of Solon, he mentioned that they're going to balance out more the ratio of m:f and that would mean it will going to be implemented for future patches not the pre-planned ones.
These people can't see past their own noses to be able to understand that. All they want to do is complain. Lol
The issue is…why was it planned this way to begin with? It’s kind of sad Genshin and Star rail, both pretty waifu centric games, had more male characters in their beginning patches than Wuwa will have even after 2.0…

I like playing gachas with both husbandos and waifus. I play Granblue Fantasy, FE: Heroes, Genshin Impact, and HSR and even though there are more waifus than husbandos in those games there are still a decent amount of husbandos unlike WuWa.
The only reason why I am still occasionally playing WuWa is because of Xiangli Yao's release and the fun gameplay mechanics. If they don't release Geshu Lin or any other male unit anytime soon I most likely will go on hiatus.

@hollowsleepyshadow well you are not wrong but if you closely followed Wuwa then you have noticed that every single character they released from 1.0 to upcoming 1.4 it's all lore based they are not releasing characters left and right. (I don't know about calcharo 😅) But every single character is important to the story so... Let's hope that we can get more cool male characters.

I love my Jiyan, his literally the reason I started WuWa his S4 and I wanna max him out, but after him, what? We got the amazing Yao, but he was free!?!? Why? Why not Zhezhi?
They should've said from the beginning that it is mostly a waifu game, and we would've understood and moved on to other games. But we are here because they seemed an inclusive game with bad ass female and male characters, amazing design, and backstory. I hope Kuro will do a better balance in the future, atm knowing we will get 4 females in a row, and maybe just maybe 2.0 will have a male and that means next year is crazy.

I have been trying to bring up the fact that a lot of players are leaving WuWa because of these reasons on Reddit, I would get downvoted to oblivion told “get the f out” & “it’s not made for you, so get out” & “Want males- go play LaDs, freak”. Community is very toxic about it, they don’t even want to acknowledge that having more male characters is universally better for everyone…. I am also an only husbando collector, that was ready to whale for males hard, but I had to leave.

If Capitano isn't playable, I fear Natlan will be the most skippable region to date. He is quite literally the only exciting thing about it. And why did they sideline Kinich so hard? If the opposite kind of situation happened, like 1:4 with female characters being the minority in a game with more guys, I honestly would be less willing to play because the female characters feel almost like an obligation/afterthought just because the devs were like "oh yeah, what if there's some player who likes girls, let's give them some table scraps to appease them". And in this hypothetical situation, the husbando crowd would just look at the waifu banner and be like "....but why?" It's just bad feels all around.

Thanks for the video! That’s what I’ve been thinking, if WW is supposed to be a waifu game, then they should’ve just advertised it as such. Remove the gender choosing of MC and stick to all girls. But they didn’t, they advertised it in a way meant to appeal people who want husbandos and waifus. People in the WW community get so defensive whenever this topic is brought up. XY is given for free, why whine and etc. Out of all the female five star limited and standard characters, there is only 4 male five star characters, and going forward, that isn’t changing, at least until 2.0. Asking for a bit more balance shouldn’t have been seen as this evil thing and told to leave. People still like this game hence they wanted more out of the game. I personally would like it if Kuro just decided what they want out of their game. If it’s supposed to be appealing to players who want both, they should balance it more. If it’s supposed to be waifu only, great, find a way and delete the men from the game indefinitely like how Hi3 erased male MC. Also male characters do sell, whether people want to believe it or not. That rhetoric is also getting old when times are changing. Either way, I’m not sure what’s in store for the male characters in this game, but as of right now, it seems like they’ll be rarer than mythical creatures. Once in a blue moon kinda thing.

While it's my personal theory, to put some insight.
- PGR started with lots of male characters and released a bunch of them during the first year. Problem here is that game's audience was (and still is) massively CN playerbase and there was major backlash about that point. Because of the playerbase ratio being already heavily skewed to support said backlash, Kurogames caved, which led to current PGR situation where in a monthly banner system, we get about 2 male chars a year. Very sick husbands mind you, but yeah.
With that knowledge, they're probably cautious about a similar case happening. But WuWa has a much more "global" playerbase. So make sure you put it in surveys and make your voice be heard (while remaining civil). While the reaction won't be immediate (everything up to 2.0 is already determined), we have to make sure they understand that the playerbase is different, and that they can branch out and try to capture the audience they left behind in PGR !

Ok so wuwa has 7 males and 21 females ( 2.0 leak says has no males ) ... to fix this you need : 6 versions back to back male characters or 3 versions 2 5 star males, another 3 versions 1 5 star and 4 star male but with a RERUN

Thank you for discussing this issue that may cost the game a large portion of its player base. So far considering the 2.0 leaks of today, we are having 2 females again, which will make it a 5:1 female to male ratio. That is frustrating.. I hope more content creators and community memebers speak up.

I totally agree with you. I love female characters but I also enjoy male characters as well. I spend thousands of dollars on gachas a month and if it just becomes a waifu collectors then I will leave because I already play Nikke for that.
Thank you for making this! I am really disappointed with the lack of male characters in Wuwa and feel baited by Kuro. I spent in the beginning to get Jiyan, but if I have to wait 4-5 months between male characters I don't think I will stick around and I wish Kuro was just transparent that this was a waifu game. I don't really care about genders in games, but it is true that most people do, so having a balance makes sense. That being said, I heard the current ratio for female to male is 5:1, and even then, the male characters feel negligible in the story, Jiyan takes the favorable spot being a frontline general with more relevancy, Xiangli Yao is the second one having the more backstory besides Jiyan, then comes Lion boy; who had a story quest and appeared in the main questline. Then we have Mortefi, a supportive character who had screentime during the first chapter, and then was reduced to just a side character, then comes Aalto who was made just to be Encore's sidekick and comic relief. And finally Yuanwu had one appearance during an important battle at the capital, never seen again in relevant content.

Same. Though the bigger pull for me was the open world, since those are the games that I like to play. Before WuWa came out, I watched someone explore the world with Calcharo and I saw that purple tree with the dangling moon and wanted to see it for myself. All the other content creators had to show off the ladies and their . . . jiggle effects. Ugh. It was a huge turn off for me and made me think the game was made for dudes and girls who are into that kind of thing.
I like a balance of male and female characters, so if there are only going to be mostly 'jiggly females' I'll probably play the game less and less. Just not into that kind of thing.

The “men don’t sell well” is getting old, especially after Love & Deepspace being 2nd 2 months in a row in the gacha revenue. Sure, it's a different genre but still, abs and back muscles sell too.

They've already said the ratio is gonna be 1:3 (in the total number of characters, not "if we release 3 females, the next one needs to be male"). It's a take it or leave it thing.

@@itsathay I don't think that it is. Genshin's devs don't respond to shit. Kuro devs have said "we hear you and what we're gonna do is keep it at x ratio". Considering that this is a minor issue that a minority of people complains about, IT IS a take it or leave it situation. I favor husbandos over waifus but I won't start complaining before they screw up the ratio they've mentioned. It makes no sense doing so.
I watched Solon's interview. They never said anything like that. They just said some vague things about Jiyan is popular in Japan. Some more stuff about how they're going to try different approaches for each region like north america.

So the editing of the male characters isn't that bad. And I'm pretty optimistic that WuWa won't be a pure WaiFu game. I think it's a bit of a shame that Aalto is only 4*. He would be a good 5* supporter in terms of gameplay if his kit was a little better. They themselves say that they will change something about the gatcha. Maybe we'll get another banner.
I think it's a bit stupid that two lolli's are coming. In doing so, they attract a clientele that I hoped I wouldn't have to endure in Wuwa.
What I actually wanted to say, it's still too early to complain here. Genshin, on the other hand, goes really wrong. The last husbando we saw was Neuvillette and now we only get children and hot waifus. And as we know, the last Archon will also be female.

I think a lot of people will agree with you on this. There is a bigger female audience in gatcha than you would think and they want male characters so having 5 female characters come out in a row is bad overall for the game.

it’s always so damn annoying when we talk about this topic and then u get incels yelling at you and calling you a tourist and to go play love and deepspace instead like just because i prefer male characters doesnt mean i want to play a dating simulator like its very different from wuwa. also very annoying when people use sales as an excuse for no male characters cause these games don’t even give male characters a chance to sell when they barely release male characters which give all the male enjoyers more than enough time to save pulls instead of spending. anyways, i like to pull both female and male characters so it doesn’t bother me TOO much, but it certainly gets annoying over time like in pgr where we only get 2 S rank males a year on average with only 2/15 of the meta characters rn being male plus the majority of the characters that have been overdue for a new S rank being the males as well (ex. kamui’s only s rank frame is a standard banner frame from day 1 of the games launch in cn which was in 2019) and the males also have barely any sfx skins and zero gacha skins compared to the several sfx + gacha skins for the females. i know kuro said they will balance out the gender ratio and wuwa is a newer game so we need to just wait and let them cook, but seeing how it’s handled in pgr over the years makes me a bit suspicious about it, but only time will tell….

My main problem has been failing every 50/50 and having to go entire way to pity for yinlin, jinhsi and zhezhi as well as having to hit pity for both weapons I’ve pulled on. If I wanted that kinda pull abuse I’d just play genshin 😅

I’m someone who likes the power fantasy of playing as a badass and those options are limited, sure I love the female characters, YinLin in one of my fav designs out of Gacha but we need some diversity. ZZZ is experiencing the same issue, HSR “almost” has a decent balance however with male characters like Jingyuan, Aventurine, Den Heng -IL, Boothill, even Gallagher who’s a freaking 4 star

Tbf for HSR, I don't really find the game that imbalanced when it comes to gender ratio but in all honesty, most of the male characters there aren't even part of the meta and if you're someone that's really dedicated in playing husbando, don't think about clearing MOC with full stars -- having only Aventurine and Gallagher - (who's most likely gonna get powercrept by Lingsha) and maybe Jiaoqiu (but I feel like he's gonna get powercrept by another waifu as well) as your strongest support. When you wanna play Jing Yuan but his best allies are all waifus and even then, some players (meta over waifu when meta comps are mostly waifu) will ridicule you cuz you didn't pick Acheron over JY lol.

I'm not so picky as to when, but I want Khazan: The First Beserker pretty much exactly. Also, Nagoriyuki from Guilty Gear as well as a Sol Badguy (honestly seems like somewhat inspiration for Geshu Lin). I also want a grappler model that actually can throw enemies around and possibly have special boss mechanics like the ability to stagger.
As far as the females I want far less elegant. I want a bruiser instead of all these dancers. Someone that actually just swings their sword. Honestly a female version of Khazan would be perfect, strong and brutal but not huge. Bridget from PGR or Himeko from HI3 (not the lame HSR version, the real one, the freakishly strong beer guzzler).
Also need a ninja male, possibly cyborg. Hayabusa or Hotsuma. Also pretty much any male from Tekken lol. I'm kinda amazed fighting games makers haven't started making gachas but now I'm derailed thinking about stupid sexy men.

As a female player who started playing becouse of the cool design of the male characters (ok I also like the female character designs) but it's realy sad they only relasing females until 1.0. Ok Zhangli Yao is here but he's a female sized male character, ok but not that realy cool. We want more tall male (masculin) charactes! 5 star or 4 star just give us more! 😁😊

Also I don't wanna leave the game because this game has tackedle the Echos (artefact system) in a way I prefer and also I wanna support a game developers of a gacha game that listens to theur players and I want that what they are doing become industry standard

I can appreciate a hot woman with jiggly physics (when she’s well designed and well written characters.) I have boobs, I can relate. But only getting them is boring. If the game starts to feel like a full on “waifu collector” it doesn’t feel like it was meant for me.

If game companies only want to cater to those specific players, they should just make it clear since the beginning instead of investing in tons of money to make a game like wuwa, to bait both gender, then kill every potentials the game has to turn it into a cheap waifu fest. People are leaving much quicker because they already see this tactic in HOYO games recently, and now Kuro is learning this behavior too. Kuro keeping up with this is just asking to have Snowbreak's revenue lol
Some issues about having more male characters in wuwa is, kuro already has a plan in set up until a certain patch, so they can't just add in a male character out of the blue, story-wise the only males that are relevant are the most hyped ones which do not fit in the story as of now (even non-relevent), and male characters are proven to not make as much money as females so the only way to get more is to pay with your wallet (An example of this is the chrome release in PGR, whose revenue and popularity and such was really down, a male-centric patch was low)
In terms of hype, Camellya is probably hyped mostly because of that scene and introduction, otherwise we don't know much, while Geshu Lin, we sort of know him better than Camellya.
NPCs sometimes get to become playable, at least seen from PGR, there has been several NPCs who became playable (Such as Pulao, now Yata, and Changyu, with some redesign fitting for a playable character), so there is always hope for some NPCs. There's always male Rover as well, I believe he is pretty popular in JP.
PGR-wise it's 1 limited per patch now, so it'll probably be like that with wuwa since now there's Shorekeeper (5) with Youhu (4), and I assume in 1.4, Camellya (5) with Lumi (4).
There's something that maybe not that many people think about, Rinascita. It's been mentioned at least 3 times in side quests and even the main story (1.1), which seems to be way more impressive than Huanglong. It'll most likely have a different design.

Also about NPCs becoming playable, I'd like to add that (I think) Bridget is the one who stayed at the NPC jail for the longest. Point is, Kuro has a good record of making NPCs playable, sooner or later. We got Geshu Lin, Scar, Yhan, and maybe some other male Black Shore member or other Fractsidus big shots other than Phrolova.
while I do agree that kuro gotta work their way through telling the story they want to tell, it's also complicated (and this is a thing across all "waifu gachas") b/c you'll have playable women characters, but they're all made to appeal to a very loud, annoying audience, so you can't fully enjoy them for who they are. the flipside is that all the important characters are guys, and the women aren't allowed to have any substantive role in the story, and even if they're really powerful, there's a guy that's more so than them. what kuro has to do is write substantive characters that go beyond their... "visual appeal." I think they, and ZZZ if I'm being honest, chose to front load their games with "waifu bait" but I wish that devs understood they ***really*** don't need to do this. I deadass went from "eh... maybe I won't pull acheron~" to "welp... I guess I'm getting acheron~" from one masterfully animated cutscene that expounds on something that was BRIEFLY mentioned in passing in the game, lol.

I want characters like trailblazer (the badass robot) to show up somehow, b/c that'd be cool af. I want badass women who aren't put in the "mommy" box, which is annoying to me b/c I... enjoy that, lol, but I definitely recognize it's become a huge problem lately, with so many characters being called "mommy" that it's kinda lost some of it's meaning imo. we need hyper lees AND wanshis AND watanabes. all of those are good, and it helps to appeal to different people that like different aspects of each character.
I am a whole ass lesbian, but a lot of these "waifu games" ain't made for women like me, b/c the way women like women ain't the same as how guys like women frfr (sometimes there's a pinch of overlap though tbf) so it feels *extra* gross and exclusionary to me, and they know what they're doing to make it feel like this, even when they have the women do what's "technically" gay shit, smh.

New characters aren't content and not a factor to player retention... player retention is related to replayability. The patches are long and the events are sparse, we dont have a weekly end game content only the shit tower like GI and between banners you can't build a character because waveplates issues.... the male characters are the last straw on all thee issues

I play genshin and hsr, but wuwa male character design looks very "manly" (if that right word) and are pretty cool and I want more of them. I was hoping kuro is aiming for more variety of audience, but it looks like they aim to be a waifu enjoyier, espically for all the fanservice and shiptease with the rover in the game (i know the lore but i feel like they are umm too loved, espically on people they barely met) . I play pgr and they like release one male character like a year which is why i quit... I'm tire playing the same unit over and over. Two, as a game that has been with me for 4 years, i have much more progress and bond with gnsn.
Three, i am a busy person, i cant always play more than 1 game. I choose gnsn over wuwa and other games. I only play wuwa when i have the time bc they always give free pulls every patch, i dont feel pressured to do the dailies.

My honest opinion is kurogame doesn't have the experience to make a 1:1 male:female ratio. The primary target of their previous game is player that focused on combat-focused style game, not a game for all gender bait. Wuthering waves is advertised as a combat-focused game, that's it. Right now, the ratio is 1:2 in wuthering waves. 8 Male:18 Female (including SK, Youhu, Camellya, Lumi).
Is it wrong to not announced male? Maybe, because there is no roadmap for future character.
Why people want more male in WuWa? Because the model looks really good in-game unlike other game that only look good in splash art. Even in ZZZ, the male is furry. Not many people like it. But the solution is very simple, if you play only for the character, then just wait for the male character to come out while you rant on in-game feedback.
Why people annoyed with this discussion? Because SOME people called waifu enjoyers as coomer and the husbando collector are not, as far as i know. CMIIW.

This is the situation:
love and deepspace 's target audience is female players (I know some man would be interested in this type of game, there are always exceptions).
wuwa's target audience GENERALLY is male players (I know there are female players playing wuwa, there are always exceptions).
If the majority of wuwa players are male, it is impossible for Kuro to copy love and deepspace's business strategy, and it is only natural for Kuro to release female characters in a regular basis and male characters occasionally. This strategy is in line with Kuro's business logic.
Remember Kuro brought forward the Yinlin banner? Why would they do so? It is because of at least two reasons:
1. The revenue from the Jiyan banner is not as good as Kuro anticipated.
2. Many Chinese players complained about wuwa's first banner being a male banner.
The first reason is easy to understand, this is the direct reason for a bold move such as bringing forward a banner.
The second reason is a bit complicated. To simplify:
In China, some of the male players advocated a campaign "wouldn't play if there are male characters".
They upheld such extreme slogan because many of them has been hurt by gacha games that they pay much and pull many characters they like, but at the end, instead of improving the game, the devs make use of the money earned to design the characters they like and ignore the players' preferences (such as releasing male characters in a row, and female characters that do not fit players' preferences).
This can also be deemed as a wrestling between male players in China and feminist (some female players) in China.
In view of the situation, it seems to me that Kuro has concluded wuwa's target audience is male players who love female characters.
Sucks for players who love male characters. I don't have problem for wuwa to release more male characters. I can always skip the banners and save up more for the female characters I want to pull. And I think this is exactly why Kuro want to release female characters in a row.

I already stated about how most characters are predetermined 1 version ahead so they are already set in stone till 2.0 from what I know. Even in PGR, they have like a roadmap which they reveal in anniversaries for important 5 stars coming along the way.
And the char people are repetitively asking for are the ones which have major lore and story potential like scar and Geshu Lin so ofc we should let them cook. And in general, it is a safer option to make the character female for better popularity and sales for gachas.
