Una de las mejores partes del concierto, junto a la Cabo Hannah en "I'll Take Romance" o "Shiver me timpanis". Tenéis seguidores/as en todo el mundo. 😃👍

I absolutely love all this old school jazz and it's the type of music my father used to play when he was in a officers and wives evenings for a little of extra money

Excellent performance. Real rhythmic drive throughout. No disrespect intended in any way, but is a conductor really necessary to direct this group? I didn't see a single player look at him.

To answer your question - no!! I served in RMB 1965-75 and for a piece like this where there is a constant, steady, tempo throughout (rhythmic drive as you described it) the musicians will keep themselves together; same as in basic stuff like marches. However, the conductor comes into his/her own when a piece has many changes of tempo such as a medley of tunes from a 'Show', or, a classical piece such as Capriccio Italien and, believe me, the conductor makes a HUGE difference to how a piece is played and sounds. Hope that helps?

@@nuttysquirrel8574 Thank you for your prompt reply. The reason I asked the question was just in the context of the excellent performance by the Oceanaires. Of course, you are spot on with your comments about what a good conductor can bring to a group of musicians. I noticed the dates of your service with the RMBS. Did you happen to know the late Lt. Ron Kempton? Top drawer conductor. Won the Ricordi prize for conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, beating a young Simon Rattle in the process. Greetings from Scotland.

@@alastairorr3802Hi, no, unfortunately I did not know Lt.R.K. but I knew of him. At the time of my serving there were 13 RM Bands across UK, Singapore and HMS Ark Royal (which I had the immense joy, and privilege of a tour upon). However, my most favourite draft was to HMS Condor (when it was still a Royal Naval Air Station) in Arbroath. We had a superb Band Officer, Lt. Graham Hoskins, (who went on to become the 'Head Honcho of the RM Band Service) and some fabulous musicians. I loved the town and the people but, as a football fan, I have to say that the worst game of football I have ever seen was Arbroath v Stenhousemuir c:1970!!!😱🤣😱!! Did you serve?? Where are you now? Greetings back from Englandshire.
