    Marvelous! Hard to believe that Lee Chan can master so well of Chan Mang-Chin style 37 form in stability , harmony, balance , smoothness , particularly the essence of body-directed in motion by Chan Mang-Chang created, not hand-directed in motion by Yang styled TaiChi mostly , of course both control methods by mind first. Very good video teaching as reference for all Chan Mang-Chin TaiChi Chuan lovers and practitioners. Please don’t give your comment rudely unless you can do better, or even you are ahead than others you should still aware that TaiChi is boundless in martial arts and a kind of philosophy in state of mind as it’s ultimate purpose is trained yourself to be harmonized pleasantly with the surroundings as well as the universe 🙏

      Hi Waker i agree with you that master Lee has captured the essence of grand master Cheng but after watching many times master Cheng i find hes not the grand master for nothing as he was a disciple of Wang Cheng Fu he derived the 37 steps from the original Yang style of 108 for he foresaw future and said we don't have much time to complete or learn the 108 steps as many are repitions;this what i learnt from my master

      The history of tai chi Chuan is past masters being notorious for ,amongst other things ,drunkenness,rebellion,killing and being “for hire “.As much as we like the hippy tai chi of the seventies ,we should not forget or loose its history or misrepresent its intent .,

      @@maytan1622 You’re right that CCM has shortened Yang’s original long forms to 37 short forms for practice easier in around 5 minutes. When he shortened to 37 short form from his master YangChengFu’s original 108 or 85 long forms, he then asked Yang’s respectable disciple -ChengWeiMing to write a preface for his book as a courtesy and consent to broad teachings of Yang’s TaiChiQung as a linkage, it has recorded in last century after Master Yang’s death. Therefore CCM is not a creator but a follower of Yang’s TaiChi, however his movements are different than other Yang’s disciples, as CCM claimed himself as a practitioner of Taoism and added essence into his movements , for which you can read his lectures, commentaries and books for his thoughts. In addition that Master Yang’s families from the 1st to the 3rd generations they all claimed that their TaiChiQuan was originated from WuDan’s Taoism . Good to all Taiji’s lovers beneficial to our health, mind and behavior. 🙏

      To augment what I previously said: my own teacher died 20 years ago, and I've had no where to go to get form corrections out here in the real, not digital, world. I've been having trouble especially with Retreat to Ride Tiger and Turn Body Sweep Lotus Leg, but after watching and replaying that section over and over I feel like I'm doing it (semi-)correctly once again. It's great to have this video here as a resource for form corrections!

    • @andrewtrip8617
      @andrewtrip8617 3 роки тому

      You won’t get anything of use regarding “sit back to ride the tiger “ or “break the lotus root “ from this video as the chap does not seem to understand the movement .If you want to get on top of these moves I would suggest you start by translating their names from the characters.then learning their reference points .then their martial application for both defence and attack (look at old photos etc ) .Make sure you stick with the foundation principles .or you can find a teacher .but do not wast time imitating people who do not know what they are doing ,no matter how well they display their form .life is not long enough !

    People do it in like 7 to 8 minutes. But when I do it, it's like 11-12 minutes. Am I going too slow? Is it bad to go too slow?

    • @markdonovan1540
      @markdonovan1540 4 роки тому +4

      Hi Rozni, the overall time is not so important, I have seen this form done in 4 to 5 minutes by experienced practitioners when working on a particular aspect of the form. As long as all the principles are adhered to then that's fine. However, most people seem to do this form in about 9 minutes. I think that a slower practice from time to time is good to practise too, especially when working more on sinking and separating the weight or trying to develop that aspect in first place.
      Teachers often get students to practise with particular focus on different aspects of the form, so this also affects the time it takes. Forms can very between "light and slippery" to "heavy and deeply rooted", so this will affect the time it takes to perform it.
      This form here is not particularly slow or fast, but more importantly it follows all the key principles of the CMC style: body relaxed, movement is directed from the waist, all parts move together, end of each move flows into the next, back is straight, head "wearing the moon for a hat", fair lady's hand, separation of the weight, sinking the weight, shoulder width stances, parallel feet for repulse monkeys movements, soft body shapes (not sharp or angular) and the gaze of the eyes connected to the intention of the movements yet remain soft and almost out of focus (a kind of peripheral vision mixed with directed intention).
      I'm still learning all this, but these are some of the principles that my teacher made me and my fellow students work on back in the 90s.

    • @andrewtrip8617
      @andrewtrip8617 3 роки тому +1

      Most yang derived forms are designed to be in synch with your breath with the changes from yin to yang occurring with the changes in breath .
      If you are completing your breath before you complete the movement you are either moving too slow or breathing to fast .!

    Very good but those loafers are not good shoes for Tai Chi, they have a small heel. You need a flat sole or you are not getting the full benefits. The foot is not completely connected with the floor and the spins will be more difficult.

    Why do they All focus on the feet on the cloud hands?????

    • @wayofthecrane9411
      @wayofthecrane9411 6 років тому +3

      Sensei Ken The main reason is because of the distribution of weight and when exactly to put it on the leg with bending the knee so no damage is done. Each foot takes turns having 100% of the weight during cloud hands. Lots of people do not do this and I guess when filming, they show evidence.

    • @Miserableplace
      @Miserableplace 5 років тому

      Is it not also the case that Cheng Man-ch'ing changed the footwork here from the original Yang 108. Not sure though. .....

    •  4 роки тому

      @@wayofthecrane9411 - I believe in fate, & things tend to fall into place. I have several different Tai Chi Quan DVDs. I recently purchased the David Carradine Tai Chi Workout DVD. I didn't open it yet. But what happened about two weeks ago? The video was shown on UA-cam! Anyway, my point being, watching the UA-cam video, it seems the drills performed that eventually create the Tai Chi form, the participants seemed to be executing the movements a little faster than they should. I guess it's because since the original appeared on video tape (which I bought as a collector's item (likely)), they had to make everything fit into under sixty minutes. It all completes a nice Style. But what's the name of the Style? I'm clueless. I think, speaking for myself, I'd call it the Grasshopper Style. If you remember, back in 1971-1973, David Carradine starred in the television series, Kung Fu. In the show, when he was first admitted into the Shaolin Temple, he was given the name Grasshopper. So I decided to name the Style on the video, The Grasshopper Style Tai Chi Quan. Long post, but it's in my nature to be detail oriented & explain everything so I'm clearly understood.

    • @andrewtrip8617
      @andrewtrip8617 3 роки тому

      They focus on the feet because his arm work is deficient ,only kidding (not) .Its because they want to show that his knee goes past and inside his foot at different times while carrying weight . I suspect you only get the correct version if you go to his classes.
