Thanks so much for doing these every week. Skinny Puppy, FLA, these are the bands that inspired me to pick up a keyboard and sequencer and start making music almost 30 years ago, and they are still putting out great, fresh music. Seeing how it was done, is really cool, and I have learned so much from these short videos.

Yo, Hiwatt! 2 years later, here I find myself. OhGr is timeless, and still an inspiration. That being said, I am a hobbyist musician, if you can call your lifelong passion a hobby. That brings me to my question. You have been very successful at making a living from your passion. I have (yet) to achieve that - frankly I don't care if I make money from it, because I do it for myself. I'm sure I am in the majority, as far as that goes. I wonder if you would give some pointers about how to gracefully share music with others. Perhaps you can also touch on how to balance a hobby that is so time-intensive, especially when (if you're like me) dreams of being a professional musician died with my teenage years. With the technology becoming so accessible, and the questionable influence of social media, how can we as creators collaborate in healthy ways without shoving our work down someone's throat?
Sorry for the long post, I figured you're always looking for new topics. Thanks as always for your brilliant content and unshakable passion and joy for our labor of love.

Let me add another note - the opposite is also true: I would love to give feedback and enjoy the fruits of my brothers and sisters labor. How have you found like-minded individuals to work with outside of a professional relationship? You're the man, hearing your optimistic approach is what inspired me to go back for the audio engineering degree. You've changed my life.

This is my favorite ohGr song; somehow I knew it was going to be the one you featured in this video before I clicked! And I LOVE what you did for the chorus. That a cappella part grabbed me the first time I heard it and has never let go.

Love seeing this, this whole album is great front to back. I'm not sure if it's even possible, but I would love to get these multitracks and other ohgr ones as well someday! Would be really cool for remixes and such.

I had no clue those break down vocals were stretched parts of verse 1, I thought it was just a while new part sung! So wild!
Awesome video, Ken! I'd really love it if sometime down the line you could do a video talking about the album you did with Cevin Key called "The Dragon Experience". The sound design and production on that album are truly on another level. Easily one of my favorite albums of all time!

I've listened to UnDeveloped over and over again ever since I bought the CD when it came out and I got to say that hearing this breakdown of a track that I'm deeply familiar with is truly inspiring.

Was looking for insight into ohGr's production, particularly the vocal processing, after listening to this song and then found this video on the exact track I was interested in! The vocal harmony on this song is just fucking amazing. Also, love the change you made to that ending build-up - a definitive improvement over the original.

Such as how to set it up successfully, how to keep it on track if things go sideways and how to wrap it up at the end so that everyone is happy/satisfied? Would like to see some industrial drum machine tips. It’s awesome to come inside these songs because of creative decisions and geekiness.
Ohgr is damn great! I think my favorite song that came out of that project is "Lusid". It's such a kick-ass tune.

Can you do a video doing a song from skinny puppy 'the process'... One of my favorite albums of all time.
Tactical Center thank you for sharing my friend, and what an awesome suggestion!!! I feel the only one qualified to breakdown a song from the Process would be the one and only, RAVE!!! On one perfect Friday, maybe Dave would join us to chat about that mix! I was Rave’s assistant engineer on The Process, and we mixed it in a beautiful studio in Brian Adam’s basement haha!!! Large frame SSL...amazing consoles, and certainly a contributing factor to the Process’s sound. That said, RAVE is the reason the Process, and so many earlier albums sounded so good!!! Rave is still the master ;-)

For some reason i always assumed a lot of the vocal processing on TGWOTR was done via the Roland V-Synth, since that thing can totally separate pitch and time like nothing else. But it wouldn't surprise me if it's a combo of the V-Synth and Melodyne. I would def love to see a vid on this one.

Is it just me, or, if it's right saying that the beat to Tragek sounds like Smothered Hope by Skinny Puppy, then does Breathe by The Prodigy sound like Smothered Hope? Every once in a while, when I go on a music obsession session, I am reminded again of the un-unhearable closeness of Tragek and Smothered Hope. And, how Paparazzi by Lady Gaga also, in my mind, smoothly overlays Tragek.
Love this track but I have to say I miss the cut vocal part, I always listen to the 5 minute single version for that reason.
Can you do a breakdown of something from Too Dark Park? Grave Wisdom would be cool... So many layers.
Tragek had a wicked heavy ending part in a 'demo' version I downloaded years ago... I always wished that heaviness stayed in the track for the album. Still a great track though!

I would very much love to see you do a video on your work with cEvin Key on "the dragon experience" in particular how "shortwave connector" Came about? Perhaps what the original Demos that cEvin made sounded like, and comparing it to what you added to it?🙏✌

Psquare that’s an anti-static strap I wear whenever I’m using my touch-sensitive controllers! I live in a very dry climate during summer months, and during winter the furnace draws humidity, so my controllers work approximately 1000 times better when I’m ‘attached’ via a simple ground strap. Highly recommended when touch controls are not making that connection, and I believe my gear loves me for not constantly discharging on it lmao!
