Admittedly, had she succeeded the disguise check this would have been a truly epic moment. But this was attempted on session 2. Normally in my experience session 1-2 is about establishing world building, who’s who, etc. it’s way too early for “seduce the dragon” shenanigans.

One of my players is a bard that keeps trying that despite having *just* making level 2. Most of my players are new so I'm trying to go fairly easy on them until they get the hang of things, but he's making it difficult by consistantly failing to seduce everything around him

Having a character realize that he's going to be a huge predator's plaything for a full night is one hell of a wake up call.
And if you think I'm being too cruel, well... another DM I heard of had the bard critically succeed with seducing a dragon. A fully grown Adult Red Dragon. A fully grown MALE Adult Red Dragon. I find it interesting that the party’s solution to get her out of trouble, twice now, is to lie in a way that misrepresents her character. And she clearly really hates that. To be clear, I understand WHY, and they’re doing their best to fix a situation she caused. But she openly hates being misrepresented, even in a ruse, so maybe she thinks they’re mocking her, rather than trying to help. I’m curious if they do this again in part 3. In any case, at this point, it feels like a post session meeting is need to diffuse the situation. Explain how group play works.

Yeah, I definitely picked up on that too. In my first game of D&D, I tried making a really cool justice fighter which people suggested I should take paladin. Then one of the other players tried to get me addicted to drugs before I got to level 3 (5?) and became immune. But like, I got really peeved that they just sort of decided what they wanted to do with my character without considering how I felt or what I might want. That being said, she sounds kind of privileged, right? Like, she expected unconditional support regardless of previous requests to back off

I actually did something very similar in a game of Scion. I had all kinds of crazy stealth and disguise powers, so I wandered right in to the BBEG's sanctum and stole the Mcguffin right from under his nose. The panicking GM had the BBEG put the moves on my PC, so she sent a "SAVE MY ASS" text with the phone in her pocket to the rest of the party. The party then found my character in bed with the BBEG after smashing their way to their location. She didn't live that down.
I guess the main difference is that it was a plan worked out with the party and I had a panic button to alert them when things went south.

I think considering just how early in the campaign this is, the DM could have left her barely alive so the party could find her and maybe she can just learn a lesson from this. Of course there needed to be consequences for SUCH a bad decision, but for a first major bad decision in the campaign (ignoring their session 0 since that's not cannon to the campaign) I think they could have justified keeping Rowan alive just this once and then if they clearly haven't learned their lesson about the importance of working with the group, by all means, let them die for their actions.

Also, total war Warhammer 2 is a great game and the closest thing to perfection. If you can run it. Also, why do edgelords think that they are being so clever?

    • @runikvarze6191
      @runikvarze6191 4 роки тому +16

Because they think they're invincible and don't know how to stack the deck in their favor. If I'm doing something risky, the minimum I make sure to do beforehand is ensure that I have options, and that the options my foes have will not work how they expect. If it's a tug of war, and your life is on the line, you grease your opponent's side of the rope, you tilt the platform, you wear cleats and you get any kind of strength bonus you can before you get started. If you can get away with it, do it.
I've had several characters survive by the skin of their teeth because of decisions that, while innocuous on the surface, were setting up something bigger in a few moves. For example, how does a sorcerer strangle a dragon? You use mage hand to chain it's neck to a boulder, and trick it into pushing the boulder off a cliff. Or use shape stone to melt the cliff under the boulder. Or you use your staff to leverage that boulder off with all your might.

She may have done a stupid thing by acting alone and not telling anyone, but it also sounds like the DM was going out of his way to kill her too (still wondering how a rogue can get a nat 1 in acrobatics, plus there isn't even supposed to be critical failures on ability checks... sooo), she just had some really bad luck rolls with back to back nat 1. My murderhobos have all faced off against my own NPC murderhobos. The funniest thing that happened was one of them got shot in the chest point blank by a homebrew poison bullet, and this was intended to kill him.
Here are damage dice and the name of the poison:
The Silent End(Named this because of how it works.)
2d4 acid damage(no more vocal cords)
    3d6 snake-spider venom(paralyzing agent.)
2d10 death’s draught(homebrew poison, 2d10 damage is done over time.)
    4d6 Piercing damage(bullet damage, since it’s a poison bullet.)
Range is around 50-60 feet since it’s a pistol round but it’s a two-shot pistol.

I kinda want to make an edge lord Rouge, but the catch is he only tries to seem super edgy. For an example from the first story instead of throwing the knife at the neck they would throw it at the ground next to them, then ask them who they are and what their goals are.
if they got a natural 1 and accidentally hit the guy, they would sit there in stunned silence, just looking at the ground in shame for killing them when all they wanted to do was seem cool, and not actually kill the guy.
I think that is a cool idea for a character.

It's like any other piece of meda or entertainment. We as the viewer have the whole story, but the character may or may not.
Also another important rule, as is with life, that newbies tend to forget about: Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Uhh, I'm kind of siding with Rowan after how her character died. That seems way out of line to me, without having explicitly asked your players if they were cool with that. She's clearly inexperienced and kind of a pain in the ass, but having my character die naked and chained up in what is clearly implied to be a rape-slavery combo dungeon would make me quit that group. ICA=ICC? Of course. Character death if you fuck up bad enough? Sure. But this is several steps too far IMO. No wonder she felt targeted.

True, but you also have to remember that Rowan is nothing if not a victim to her own poor choices. Many things could have been done differently if she didn't want the fate she got. She could have warned the party, left the bakery after poisoning the food, etc.

So, like, the way I see it, Rowan has some sort of head cannon or expectation as to how her character's story should play out. I can see how she resists the players and dm's urging as either being new or misunderstanding their intention as trying to mischaracterize her character (prisoner in session 0). However, she really seems kind of privileged in expecting people to bail her out and rally behind her unconditionally. I think it's that in-game vs out-of-game dynamic. We're friends oog and I expect you to help me, but we're role playing and there's nothing you can do IG to save me.

I’ve seen some criticism of the “damage the bakery business to harm the slave trade business”.
If the bakery goes under, yes they can still use the money from the slave trade, but now it’s harder to maintain the image of a functional business if nobody is buying your product.
Plus, if everyone got sick, people would either riot or demand an investigation.

  • @ohitsrusher842

The way she dies does make sense within the context of the story, the slaves obviously wouldn't be treated very well and she just fell from a building with nothing to even remotely soften the blow, so there would be alot of scrapes and blood, not even mentioning the head trauma. And considering how the slaves are abuse it would make sense for her to get multiple infections in the place even within the abuse probably stopping the injury from healing.

In the first game of 3.5 I ever played we kinda played as murder hobos. I say kinda because we were rather tame, we weren't out of control and killing everyone we met or fighting in towns but while out and about everyone was fair game unless dm said not to slaughter someone. She kept us in line by giving us a known bad reputation which made quests harder. People we tried to rescue were terrified and would frequently try to escape, usually stealing our stuff in the process. If we were chasing people through town, guards would usually assume we were the bad guys and start chasing us. She had a lot of fun having evil people tell guards we were trying to murder them to hassle us if we were getting too rowdy. To be fair, that bad reputation was pretty well deserved
