I learnt about the Mega Drive remake of this game only about 2 weeks ago but was instantly hyped about it. Another Jaleco shmup that could have been great on Mega Drive is Saint Dragon. I loved the Atari ST version of that one back in time. edit: Also I still hope that the excellent Fantasy Zone port that got included in the MD Mini 2 will eventually get a physical release.
@@thehumbleone1983 Yeah! Sega are still missing some opportunies here and there. They could even re-release some authentic Mega Drive consoles that people would still be eager to buy these! And a CIB Fantasy Zone would be an instant buy for me, just like I did with Ultracore or Darius Extra.
Looks great but shame about it running in the lower resolution mode. I hope the developers can up the resolution before release as sometimes it's just a few lines of code, there are rom hacks which up the res on a couple of Megadrive games already, Zombies Eat my Neighbors being one.
@@TheRestartPoint Funnily enough you get an extra 20 on screen sprites with the higher res on Megadrive, 80 as opposed to 60 in low res. Looking at the gameplay footage i wouldn't think the console would struggle with anything this game is doing as far as slowdown is concerned. They might have made it low res to make ports to other consoles easier, ie to match the Snes standard resolution which is the same as the Megadrive running in low res mode.
This game ran on the Jaleco Mega System 1 at a time when simpler graphics caught the public's eye. It would be possible to see if the Mega Drive port is up to the standard of the arcade on a tube TV, which softens the graphics' anti-aliasing a lot. I've already seen some videos of this game, but unfortunately they don't give a very accurate picture of the visuals, which is a shame.
I...got nothing, but gave this a full watch cause I always enjoy YOUR excitement for Mega Drive goodness. Oh, how about, do you have a wishlist of cancelled MD games you hope to someday see?
Looks good I need to get me a box cartridge hey Mike no Australian retailer but it should be alright to just go through one of the retailers you suggested right
We're going to have to start calling you Retro Gamer Geezer :D "Video tape" ... what's next, listening to the soundtrack on your phonograph? 😆😂 Just kidding man, thanks for the update! Mega Drive Mania in the world these days!
This is a nice surprise release of a cancelled game that is fully developed by City Connection. I definitely will not miss this chance with the open preorder window going on. Adding the CD soundtrack for this collection delivers a nice touch to a piece of videogame history.
Ordered. This is a never-before seen game. At first I thought calling it "P47 - II" was a bit of a stretch as it was just a port of the original P47 arcade game (which came out on PC Engine and computers in the day), but its actually a whole new sequel that has never appeared anywhere else before. That's the clincher for me
Okay so, how is the quality of Retro Bit's PCBs, boxes and all? I'm tempted to get it although I'm already disappointed by the fact that it only runs in 256x224 pixels rather than using the more common and much better 320x224 resolution in which most Mega Drive and Mega-CD games run. edit: I've ordered it anyway! Arcade version already ran in 256x224 so in such case this is more understandable and acceptable. Also this Mega Drive remake looks very elaborate so it definitely seems worth buying.
That's a shame. I hope the developers can up the resolution before release as sometimes it's just a few lines of code, there are rom hacks which up the res on a couple of Megadrive games already, Zombies Eat my Neighbors being one.
@@BigBillKelly-x2z I've checked the arcade original version on which this remake is based on and it already ran in 256x224 so in such case this is more understandable although getting a resolution improvement would still have been great both for graphics and gameplay! We got several cases of arcade ports or remakes on Mega Drive that increased the resolution in the process as it happened with the port of Crude Buster or the remake of Chelnov. Now about the hacks that you mentioned, I never heard about these, it could be interesting although your example had me puzzled because that game already runs in 320x224 on Mega Drive 🤔
Pre orders for the jp version has been up on amazon japan for over a month. 7 games in the series ? there only P-47, P-47 aces and the exA P-47 aces mark 2.
How likely is it that this game ends up on a Jaleco collection for the Evercade? I don't care how fancy the packaging is, it pees me right off when I shell out megabucks for a game on the Genny/MD, only for it to come out later on the Evercade for a fraction of the cost.
Seems promising, but I think the developers should have sent ROMs or early carts to people like Mike so that he could give us gameplay video and hands on impressions before we shell out money on a pre-order. A public demo would be even better.
It could have been leaked easily. This happened for the Final Fight MD where the dev is earning zero and even some pirated carts started being sold online.
@@PorcoZio79 Yup, that's a problem, but asking for almost $60 USD for a game that pretty much nobody has gotten to play, has no reviews, etc. Is a problem as well. A single stage demo could have been provided and wouldn't be an issue if it leaked, or could have just been made public.
Mike.. if no one thanks you, it means that people are very stupid or they don't know. But I am going to thank you not a million times for the piece of information you just gave. Great !! Mike 🕹️👊🏼
@ funny thread :D in fact this game sadly runs in the same resolution as the "super croptendo" video game console :/ another fact though is that enhancement chips for "Better sound , better color" aren't indeed much needed on sega's mega drive unlike on nintendo's NES and SNES where many games required such things but it's also worth pointing out the fact that the mega drive does also have "fruit loop colorful game's with gay whimsical music" e.g. super fantasy zone or ristar but the system is indeed also known for games with badass gritty visuals and music e.g. shadow dancer or bio-hazard battle! =)
P-47 is not developed by Jaleco (that's just the editor) but by NMK ! Sadly, this amazing and unique developer never got the consideration it deserved. They made stunning and unique Shoot Em Up like Gunnail, Rapid Hero, Saint Dragon, Thunder Dragon 1 & 2, USAAF Mustang, Zed Blade, etc. Their contributions to the shmup community are monumental, yet they remain tragically overlooked. 🥲
Ordered. I loved P47 Thunderbolt on the Spectrum and Amiga, so the chance to finally play it's sequel is worth taking. Cheers, Mike.
The box art showing the tail section reminds me of the album cover from Beastie Boys, License To Ill.
Some of that multi parallax is really impressive, it's easy to forget that the Mega Drive only had two background layers.

Get well soon RGB. You're looking and sounding a bit under the weather on this vid.
Wow! 35 years Mike. Amazing. i can't wait to play it. 8^)
Anthony..
So exciting how vibrant & alive the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive is! Love all these shoot 'em ups that have coming out the past several years!
The game actually looks pretty awesome, shame it never came out back then but glad we have it now!
I'd like to hear more of its ost.
Played the Turbographix 16 version quite a bit. Super excited for this.

Maybe there's advantages to the lower res like more sprites and less slowdown?

The soundtrack on the trailer sounded really good. Love to try out the P-47 Aces (arcade) first.
The reversible cover art reminded me of the cassette and vinyl album cover for Beastie Boys License To Ill

"What's a video tape?" Ouch, that hurt.
strictly limited games usually gets these too, I don't see it now though

I just pre ordered it. Got an email from them this morning telling me to buy it or else they'd be coming round to have a 'word'
Have you got Cadillacs and Dinosaurs on Megadrive? Seen it on ebay recently. UK seller. Wonder if it was an official release?
Wonder why they canceled the original release? Not enough market for shmups?
Ordered! Thanks for the reminder

Are they going to use enhancement chips? Better sound , better color?
The gritty color's and digital sound is why we like our MegaGen, if you want fruit loop colorful game's with gay whimsical music go play the snes.
