They ruined their channel though when they purchased millions of subscribers and junk views every upload. That earned them an RPM under $5.00 and no respect from advertisers. So they are not earning ANY MONEY. So it is put in sponsored ads in uploads......or go behind a pay wall.

@@Anonymous-in4pc they genuinely deserve it. I was subscribed to the channel waiting for a specific series to return (that series is how I found them) and then they pull this. They put basically the only thing I wanted to watch behind a paywall.

it's fascinating how they can't make it work financially.
-Their videos are doing very well, averaging 1.1 milion views, usually higher with a sponsor on most of them
-They have an active patreon with almost 6k members starting at 5$ minimum going up to 100$ (they never advertise that patreon tho)
-They have merch drops fairly frequently
-They even had a series of live performances
-They also upload a podcast on Spotify and I think they have a sponsor for that too
HOW IS THAT NOT ENOUGH MONEY?!
Also to add: like 4 of their most popular shows has them just sitting around. Only ghost files requires them to travel.

Probably that one dude who drops probably 10s of thousands of dollars per trip not including the cost of production n stuff. Shane and Bryan aren’t exactly innocent either, though they’ve been jacking up production cost by a lot too. They don’t seem to understand that most of us would be fine with their old set up they had. Just two dudes in chairs essentially talking about wacky theories.
If they can't afford their production costs, they need to LOWER THEIR PRODUCTION COSTS. It's that simple. Maybe get cheaper flights or hotels.

10 mins of most of their videos is sponsorship content, without that 10 mins the episodes are pretty short. My guess is that sponsorship isn't being taken out of their old videos.

Is it that bad? For example corridor crew has a simmilar thing with the subscribtion service, the only diffirence is the fact that they haven't quit youtube they just upload more on their website.
the way they did it is also bad.. the moved from buzzfeed to watcher and fans stayed with them and all and now they just went „welp thanks and bye if you won’t pay for it“ and the fact they said everyone „can afford 6 bucks a month“. They definitely messed up on how they announced it for a start.
Corridor crew is way different. First watcher isn't as big. Second corridor crew uploads OFTEN to the UA-cam channel. Watcher was going to take all the UA-cam content down and only upload trailers. It's so different.

i didn't finish their video (hell i barely started it) cos i glanced at comments expecting like light hearted, goofy messages and was met with.. no guys this is serious. so them to be like the production is hundreds of thousands. they AT MIN make 60k - 120k a month at the VERY MINIMAL LEAST that they possibly could bring in. to say they can't afford 'hundreds to thousands' on production is so ?????? they only make 4 eps a month.

this might be a hot take but the difference between the community and this company is that this company is looking at the situation from a business perspective rather than looking at it from the perspective of the people watching, i can understand why they made this choice because id imagine signing off a contract with netflix or hulu could have setbacks but they have their own individual freedom with their own website and that means they don’t have to follow any corporate rules or any of that so i could understand
Or they can cut down their production cost to match their profit margins

Im not trying to play devils advocate but it just seems like popular youtubers are painting these people as monsters for pushing a more aggressive business model
First of all they 100% have enough money for their production and 25 employees. They rake in a million views per vid, have 12k patreons with 3 different tiers AND take sponsorship deals that with their size net them a minimum of 15k a pop. There’s no way in hell that’s not enough to cover everything and have shit left over.
Second point is that If it was only looked at from a business perspective then it’s still a terrible decision. Historically speaking it has not once ended well when something free is put behind a paywall that that was enjoyed by many for years. On top of that they should really know their audience by know and be aware of the fact that they cultivated a lot of young adults in college who just can’t afford another streaming service, especially not during a housing and financial crisis.
So if you look at purely the business side, it makes no sense. It’s pretty much career suicide by greed.

I never thought of it being conspiracy theories, but maybe. I really liked unsolved mysteries on buzzfeed and I haven't watched that channel in ages. When they started watcher I was causiously optimistic, little unsure but I ended up really enjoying puppet history (like anything history related), where they read stories and drank, and unsolved mysteries. Sometimes ghost stuff. I didn't EVER think I wanted more shows and higher quality. If higher quality means I have to pay in a terrible economy fvck øff. I cannot pay another service or get hulu if they go there even if I'd like to. Netflix and youtube is it. Being ill in america is expensive so goodbye I guess.
