Every ZX80, 81 and 82 are worth fixing, they all have a soul to lose! All of them are created equal in the image of their maker, Sir Clive Sinclair!
And if you are still working on it, give the little bugger a big chunk of extra memory.

Haha I like that. I think there may be good news on the horizon with it. Watch this space 😊

Is it worth fixing??? Clickbait? You bloody right it's worth fixing! And replace the linear voltage regulator with a switching regulator. Poor little Zed-x has had long rough road. Time to give it some love. 😊

Im in the same position with 2 working TS1000’s and only one good ULA. Cpu for this little board can be reincarnated as a spectrum or a no ula zx81+32 (use the cpu, rom ?). The vLA81 is quite expensive…

You should get sharp insulated probes right down to the point! Big risk of shorts with that thick bare probes you are using !

I think you're right. I had ordered some from China a while back but they never arrived. I'll have to sort it though

Where did you source the composite mod?

Did you actually try the original chip in the new socket?

I did yes. I socketed both boards and swapped the ULA between both.
There's some news to come on this though and it isn't good 😢. I'm just finishing editing a vid which should be live this evening. Feel free to shout at me 😄

Next, is to socket the chips, so that no future reworking has to be done on PCB.

I thought about resocketing everything. It's always a judgement call between preventative maintenance and causing damage unnecessarily

No big loss. These are best used as wedge shaped doorstops anyway... All kidding aside, what is the deal with the prices of retro stuff lately? I understand there's a knee in every curve for supply and demand, but people are asking stupid prices for stuff that's still basically e-waste.

Hi Dennis, thanks for commenting. Doorstops?? I nearly cried 😂.
I was so sad when I realised I'd made a hash of it. There's a hard lesson I learned here. First is don't forget to set the soldering iron to the correct temperature. Second, do one thing at once and test. Third, is don't continue when your tired.
That aside, yes the prices are crazy, and I don't see that changing. There are bargains to be had though if you're lucking and in the right place at the right time. Check out my recent video on that if you haven't already 😁

No, sorry. I didn't enjoy hearing you say you'd use it for parts. ⚰😦

I know. I didn't enjoy saying it. I've just got to balance what I spend money on as there's lots of things I'd like to get for the chamnel
