- Thanks for checking out our Guns N Roses reaction. Patience is such a different sound for GnR. It totally caught us off guard.

Here’s a “good” Axl story. In 1987 GnR were opening for the Cult. I brought my Appetite for Destruction album hoping to see the band members and get it signed. I saw Slash first. He sneezed on it and signed it. Rad. Then I saw Axl walking with two girls. I asked him to sign it. He grabbed it, and was writing on it what seemed like a long time. He wrote “ Rock your fucking head off W.Axl Rose “. Smiled and gave it back to me. I’ll never forget how cool he was !
Very Cool story 🤙
"I have slash's DNA? All I need is a healthy ovum and I can grow my own slash."
@@bbaker2495 😄
Wow that's beautiful
Too bad he turned cringe
This is What you would call a rock ballad in the 80's-90's every group had at least one and most had one per album.
Slayer never did a ballad
@@efakter1 Slayer wasn't really rock in roll as much as death metal.....there is a huge difference.
@@trentbresler3179 , Slayer was never death metal either. They were thrash/speed metal.
Too funny. Rock was broken down into way way too many sub genres by people starting somewhere in the late 70's for the most part. If you asked a Disco head back in the 70's or 80's they'd call any rock sub genre, rock n roll. And as much as I hated disco and those who liked it but hated rock, I have to lean with them on calling most rock sub genres just rock n roll. It just got out of hand after a while.
^^^^THIS^^^^
Axl is a legend…a misunderstood legend….he admits he’s nuts….he also had to deal with every band member being on heroin and drunk constantly…Axl rarely did any drugs…he just had a horrible childhood, etc. Axl’s the fucking man
Nicely put
Axle wasn't nuts, he was egotistical... he also drank heavily OFTEN.
He was diagnosed with psychosis and bipolar disorder. He’s nuts lol
Agreed. Not perfect obviously but misunderstood in a lot of ways.
@@zackyboi2048 Bipolar as a kid. Psychosis, no.
Axl Rose has an incredible vocal range, that’s why he can sing high and low pitched. His natural speaking voice os actually low
Axl Rose has a 5.5 octave range ( most opera singers have 2-2.octaves), and has at least, to quote Rolling Stone magazine " 5 distinctively different voices ". Most say he has 7. If you count his speaking voice, that's 8. It's nothing like his speaking voice.

He may be old now, but he sung for AC/ DC AND Guns and Roses recently. You?
@@nathankrush3289 hatters gonna hate, same old story…
@Goreblast, Axl still has it. Have you been to a GnR concert, since 2016?
One of the greatest ballads of all time. This was my wedding song back in 1990. And we’re still going strong because we have patience!
The band that left so many longing for more…
GnR has been touring the world & gives fans great shows to attend. I have been a huge GnR fan since 1990 & I am perfectly happy with GnR, the way they are :)
Lex, in answer to your question about a violin bow on an electric guitar, check out Led Zep's Dazed and Confused from the '73 Madison Square Garden gig, and Jimmy page will show you what it's all about (he actually uses a cello bow).
I was about to write about it. They will love it.
Also Whitesnake's "Still Of The Night"
Yes and Whitesnake's "Still Of The Night" which you two did a reaction to on Sep 26, 2021. And Brad you mentioned the "Did you see the dude guy playing the guitar with a violin thing?" "Still Of The Night" by Whitesnake is one of my favorite songs. And the solo part when lead guitarist Adrian Vandenberg uses the cello bow makes a very unique and cool sound! But that is far from this acoustic guitar that Slash is playing!
These guys stole my idea!!! Lol
@@melvinvandegraaf2738 Lol
This is rock. Any great rock and metal band is very versatile in its sound.
Lex acts like a student who didn't do her homework when Brad questions her about the lyrics. 5:45 "Ahhhhhh, patience?" Too cute.
good one
Yeah, she don't listen to the words but, she feels every note.
Yeah, just going through the motions. Waste of time 😑
The screen isn’t close enough for her to see. Brad hogs it 😆
@@mariannesigley9086 Wouldn't make a difference if she had her own screen, once she's in the zone she ain't reading anything.
The song "I Used To Love Her"... is a must ‼️
Definitely my favorite!
I totally agree
I second this!!!
They should listen to one in a million as well
So is One in a Million....but they will never do that one
The electric guitar is not what defines rock from country. Each genre can and does use both electric and acoustic.
Country is crap and Rock is not. The crap is how you differentiate
Bluegrass is acoustic
CCR CAN'T BE CRAP!; THAT IS REAL SOUTHERN ROCK!!!
Why u guys hate on rap music for smh
@@joeykruger6605 First, only 1 person even mentioned rap. Second, people that hate on rap don't like rap.
Rock has acoustic guitars too. Different styles of playing and tones.
Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin did that with a bow and a guitar. It’s live somewhere.
You can see him use that in The song remains the same concert video
Their first album in 1969 on Dazed and Confused.
Page also used a bow in the video for Satisfaction Guaranteed while with the Firm
Well said Bod
I was going to give the same example
Didn’t white snake do it as well in the still of the night?
In the VH1 Behind The Music on them an old manager said it best about GnR back in the Use your Illusion tour days. She said...On any given night you don't know if you'll witness a disaster, or see the greatest performance in history. Very true. I have seen them 3 times on their reunion tour and they are on time every night and play and all epic 3+hour shows. Even rock stars eventually grow up if they live long enough
This is rock. It's just GNR's version/interpretation of a ballad.
Axle is truly a real rock star!! You should read his rejection letter to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame🤘
It says a lot about his thought 🤔
You say rock star, I say self-entitled diva
@@mikethemotormouth I say both. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.
Axl*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The song Dazed and Confused, by Led Zeppelin, features an electric guitar with a violin bow.
Technically a cello bow, but yes.
Not the studio recording on Zep 1
Everybody thinks of hard rock and fast playing and Axl's screaming lyrical sound, but when you hear the ballads you realize what a great musician Slash was and how incredible the band was, such range. Amazing.
Axl rose is listed as having the greatest vocal range going from an F1 all the way to a B flat 6. So he does have an extraordinary range.
He has been beat out for the biggest octave range by Mike Patton a long time ago. But eventhough it's not a world record, it's still impressive. I also think he's tied with Devin Townsend.
Mike Patton entered the chat.
@@antimatter2380
Mike Patton, really? His music blows, though.
Christ, that's soprano territory
The album Lies Lies Lies is one of the most underated albums ever. Also one of my favorites. Mama Kin, Rocket Queen and Patience are probably my favorite GNR songs
I'm not trying to be "that guy" just a (if you didn't know fun fact) mama kin was originally done by Aerosmith.
@@krisalan5327 we know bruh:) also it sounds live but was actually recorded in the studio and was given a “live” effect.
He used to be able to sing, them days are long gone. A GNR song Lex will love is "You could be mine' . It's a right banger of a song, well worth you checking out.
Do some live performances of Axl. You’ll find hes one of the greatest frontman to ever walk on stage. But it was likely due to the emotions he carried with him. Troubled childhood, took him a while to heal from that.
Tbh they weren’t the best live.
@@stanclips8227, They have awesome Live shows, these days :)
You guys have to listen to You’re Crazy the acoustic version off of the Lies EP
I agree...that whole album is great
Definitely! The acoustic version is absolute FIRE!! Axl' vocals are incredible! 🔥🎤
Probably the most underrated acoustic solo ever.
Axl can sing in 5 or 6 octaves and has incredible range along with his rasp.
Love to see the reaction to “One in a million”, that would be interesting to see their take on it.
regardless of the offence some may take from some of the versus the song is awesome and one of their best
Except for everybody instantly misses the entire point of the song
@@daveschneider7668 very true, and honestly there is a song about killing and burying his girlfriend on that album so compared to that one in a million is kinda tame
@@marcguidetti3081 that song is literally about his dog, not a girlfriend. Often confused.
@@jasoncar1469 I know but most people don't I was further illustrating the point Eric V made. maybe my sarcasm sucked
Also Axl and GNR plays 3+ hours and they start on time every show. He's definitely a changed man... he grew and got wise. Also is making a boat load of money touring with Duff and Slash. Axl 30 years ago is a different animal then today....
Think of “rock” as a super broad category. Pretty much anything with the typical rock instruments is rock. Then there’s a million sub genres and sub-sub genres.
This is a Rock Ballad. Almost all rock bands produce these slow sets. The exception is AC/DC. Closest AC/DC ever came was "Ride On"
Wait. So “Sink the Pink” isn’t a romantic ballad? This explains so much 🤔
@@Dreyno I thought giving the dog a bone was pretty romantic myself.
AC/DC's "Little Lover" comes close to being a rock ballad. However, much like "Ride On", it's more bluesy.
Axl gets a lot of crap, and some of it is deserved. Especially back in the day. But he’s matured a lot now and has a much better outlook on life, from what I can tell.
Axl sounds like shit now
he basically deserves every bit of it. he was a horrible person for many, many years. even if he's blamed for things that weren't his fault, it's only making up for the stuff he's not getting crap for.
Honestly he’s been one of the most reliable lead singers of all of his peers the last decade and a half.
People easily dismiss not only the mental toll that that kind of work takes on you, on top of childhood trauma and other psychological issues many artists may have. None of us are perfect and sometimes there are reasons for how people behave.
@@vanyadolly axl was a straight up narcissist. maybe he did have past issues and i hope he got them sorted out, but it doesn't change how awful he treated people for many, many years. he still did and acted the way he did.
There's a solo in the song
Whitesnake
Still Of The Night
that the guitarist plays his guitar with a violin bow
"Get in the ring" is worth a listen. tells a great story! LOL
Lol! I 2nd this comment. Hahaha
Gives a good representation of what GN'R were about at the time
Used to play this song back in the day, when I was young and single, great tune for making the young ladies swoon 😎
If a rock band performs an acoustic song it's still rock. It's just more of a ballad.
No. Its a ballad, by a rock band. If Cannibal Corpse would make a ballad incl clean singing this really can't be called a death metal song 😉
@@MarcelH666 kind of. Rock has ballads so does metal. Death Metal doesn't
"Is it rock with out electric guitary?" The band Days of the New answered that and yes it can be for sure. Try it "Touch peel and stand" or "down town" no electric guitars and definitely rocks
DOTN is a top 5 band for me. Seen em live in a small bar in a small town in ohio for 5 bucks. Stood 5 feet away from travis the whole thing. Amazing talent but travis meeks has his demons.
This is a Rock Ballad, and many rock bands used both electric guitar and acoustic guitars. These guys rock out hard, but have a few rock ballads. They were great to see live, had a blast.
Would kill to see them perform this live. Great song
This is my best friend Jason's song he would play for me at work when I was pissed. RIP J. 1978-2021. Killed by a intoxicated driver. Be safe peeps.
Sorry for your loss 😔
Jason had great taste , RIP.
Let me School y'all on this one, they were just high as shit sitting in on the floor of the sucking down Jack Daniels while playing acoustics. They were coming down off a high and just made this off the cuff. The lyrics just came out of Axl's head while they were riffing. None of this was planned. But they were literally sleeping in the studio so one of them just said hit record, and it made history. That is how good they truly are
This is an Awesome song that holds a special place in my heart. It got me through a lot of hard times. I wish you would have reacted to the video for this. It gives it a different vibe.
Axl is one of the biggest diva's for sure...but I've been a fan since the 80s he's definitely unique and one of a kind
Axl is a great singer, pianist and most of all writer-composer. He have a classic music education. He wrote almost every song you liked so far. He's a genious and he's crazy...
One of the Most Iconic GNR song with Axl singing from his 💜❤️💜 Amazing Tune! Brings Back Amazing Memories 💜❤️💜 Thx for the React of one of my Fav GNR Songs!!
acoustic rock, folk rock...
a lot of rock bands diversified their sound as much as they could. it was almost a matter of pride actually.
Well now you need to listen to Van Halen’s “Pound Cake”. Eddie play the guitar with an electric drill. Or, my Jackyls “Lumber Jack”. They use a chain saw as a guitar.
GNR was the best train wreck of a band. Saw them several times, was at Giant Stadium in the Paradise City video. They went 100 miles an hour and kicked your ass and burnt out in a few years. What a time the late 80s.
The music video for this song was awesome. I read an article, the band recorded this song in one take. Duff Keegan, the bassist was playing an acoustic 6 string on this. Drummer was just chilling out and hanging around.
Axl has been open about having a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. This was the cause of many of his behaviors early on and ultimately the break up and estrangement of the band. I saw them back in the day, and I saw them since they reunited a few years ago… Back in the day you just didn’t know if Axl was going to make it to the stage, when I saw them a few years ago they started right on time… I was a little late and missed the first song. But he really has his stuff together now and it’s amazing to see the band back together. If you like them, I really recommend Going to a show, they put on a hell of a concert! But I think they just wrapped up their last tour.
Yes, it's a rock ballad. I thought you guys had done this one already. Love this song.
Many month ago, I subscribed to your channel because of your Tom MacDonald reactions. I'd never thought that I would listen to reacting to one of my teenage years top 3 favorite bands, that are still in my top 10, more than 25 years later. Love it!
Greetings from Germany
This a love ballad IMO. Imagine two people taking it slow and building up that tension. Then the change over is once they cant stand it any longer.
I've seen Guns 3 or 4 times, always fantastic and Axl has always been incredible...
I know a bunch of people that have met him, all have great things to say
Never had the chance to see them. Everyone I know that met G N' R said Izzy & Duff were the most welcoming, Slash & Steven were cool, but Axl was a complete Richard. Guess it depends on Axl's night/day, bu 8 for 8 for the same observations at different times with all different people; seems like a trend, lol.
@@profanepersonality yeah, all humans at the end of the day, we don't know whats going on... I've only met Duff and Slash and they were both really nice
@@paulshaw9953, not being in his shoes with everyone trying to take a piece of you; makes it hard to say how I would react to the pressures, especially while having the money and party habits he had. I do not believe, however, that I would be so egotistical, and full of drama; due to just how I am as a person. Some people are just shitheads. He seems to have grown out of it, from what I have seen/heard. Being young and living that life can definitely have an impact if you haven't grounded yourself, yet.
Yes it Axle. You need to try "I used to Love Her" for another great GNR love song.
Seconded!
🤣🤣🤣👍
Probably one of the best love songs ever.
Man, I miss Izzy's influence on this band
He was the main composer of this one. And the new Hard Skool song, it just misses some JuJu Hounds, doesn't it...
Izzy's always been my fav Gun
Yeah. His solo stuff is good but it's just not the same either.
Chris Cornell did my favorite cover of this song, it's perfect.
Cornell could make anything sound awesome! Damn I miss him.
Thank-you both for keeping the honesty going. It is much appreciated!
When GNR 's first record came out in 1987 I was hooked!
Whitesnake’s guitarist Adrian Vandenberg played ‘still of the night’ with a bow and it sounds awesome 👍🏼
That would be great for them to review.
A lot of rock bands from back then occasionally did a ballad. It added another dimension and side to these bands that made them well rounded entertainers. The Bangles (girl rock/pop band) comes to mind in that their ballad 'Eternal Flame' became one of their biggest hits.
Metal only got played on Headbanger's Ball (MTV) or special radio shows, so if a band wanted to get signed, they had to show the record company something that would get radio play in regular rotation, so every band has a power ballad.
It's a love ballot, all the hair bands did them in the 80's and early 90's. GNR are your hard rock/ heavy metal.
If you want to hear a violin bow played on an electric guitar I say the 1973 Madison square garden Led Zeppelin show the track is “dazed and confused” he uses a violin bow extensively
Some heavy riff gems off of GNR's first album to listen to: You're Crazy, My Michelle, Anything Goes 🔥🔥
Please do "I used to love her" I want to see how Brad reacts to the lyrics on that 😂
the best version of this song 1989 American music awards that's what got me into them and metal.Slash has great guitar solo i still watch it from time to time.
I remember that award show, good memories
Should've done the video! Great fit for the song.
agree but Brad likes to read the lyrics.
If you want to hear some old school GnR that rocks, try the song "Move to the city". Very cool and uplifting. Not the lyrics video though, but the one on the album "Lies".
And you guys really need to start doing more videos for 80s and 90s music. Videos were a big part of how they represented the song and the band at that time.
Brad needs his lyrics cause apparently its difficult for him to pick out the words in rock/metal.
Yet the music he listens to is rap..
@@shure81 videos were, or had the ability to add to the art form. I’ve never understood the need to comment on something just to let everyone know how much you dislike it. Such a miserable disposition.

One best songs ever written a classic
Yes, this is Axel singing no doubt, his voice is so original that it's not easy to replace. Patience is what this world needs the most.
80s Rock bands write the best 'power ballads' period.
Axl & Izzy were the main writers in GnR and they wrote some of the best numbers to ever come out during their early days.
Dave Chappelle did the _"Axl Patience"_ dance at the end of the _"White People Can't Dance"_ skit with John Mayer on the _Chappelle Show,_ 2004.
Led Zeppelin-dazed and confused and white snake-still of the night both have a guitar part played with a violin bow
Gary Moore " Still got the Blues" LIVE. You'll be blown away! Then " The Messiah will come again" from same concert. You'll be blown away even more.
To hear an electric guitar bowed with a violin bow like you mention are Led Zeppelin's How Many More Times and Dazed And Confused. And the Dazed And Confused live version on The Song Remains The Same.
Living On The 110 by Prophets of Rage is a great contemporary example. Great song too.
@@e1eveN53 I'll check that out. Thanks!
guns n roses was notorious for those key and chord changes in their music
In 1988 the guns n 'roses released the album "G N' R Lies" with a whole part of acoustic song. Which was innovative for a rock band. The album was a success, which gave the idea to MTV to create shortly after the show MTV unplugged where a lot of rock groups made legendary performances.
a rock ballad. one of the best
Yes, that is Axl. Some people bash this song, but I love it.
Jimmy paige used a bow from a violin on his guitar on the song dazed and confused. 1969 live in london is a good one to watch him do it.
This is a power ballet most rock bands had them in the 80's including Kiss that one is Beth!!
"this Axl?"...."gotta be" Cracked me up. Some voices will always be synonymous with a band. Axl-GnR, Ivan Moody-FFDP, Bruce Dickenson-Iron Maiden, Geddy Lee-RUSH....etc.etc...
One of my favorites, such an epic song
Axl's range in the outro right at the end is crazy good
Funny when this came out. After hearing two flat-out bangers off their first album in Sweet Child & Welcome to the Jungle, we were fired up hearing that a new single's being released. This toon popped while I was in my office and I just sat there wondering, "where's the fire?". It was just so mellow compared to their anthem-type songs I've grown used to. But, looking back, this is one of their best musically-innovative songs. It didn't rely so much on vocals as it did on the instrumental talents of the band. Top-5 G&R songs of all-time IMO. Nice job with your reactions as well.
This song is so damn good. GNR were full of issues but sometimes that is what gives you greatness in art and music
Honestly Axle needs some slack, he was sexually abused as a child by his dad I believe,
Maybe stepdad I don't remember and had a rough life. It definitely caused some mental issues that carried over into his other relationships and life.. The fact that we were able to get his musical genius out of him and that he is still alive today is pretty impressive.
Well said, always felt nobody understood what it did to you being abused,as someone who went thru it at a young age,I felt his pain in the rolling stone interview hge did.
Yes he supposedly had bipolar disorder as well. I'm as frustrated as any gnr fan that their discography is so small, but it's amazing Axl accomplished what he did.
People forget that sometimes there are reasons people behave the way they do. Mental health wasn't really talked about in the 80s/90s either.
I think Jimmy Page played an electric guitar with a bow in Led Zeppelin's Dazed and Confused
As others mentioned, Chris Cornell did a great job covering this song.
Great reaction as always! Keep it up guys! 👍
Don't really like his version to be honest. It lacks
I see what you are saying, especially without the video. For me, because of his passing and the video showing his personal photos with his family, it's a good cover. Plus I love Chris's voice. But I grew up listening to the GNR version first, so definitely still my favorite
"Is it rock if there's no electric guitar?"
YES!!!!
;)
Axl Rose's inducted into the Hall of Fame for having the widest range of notes for one person's voice he's widely considered one of the best singers of all time
You can hear the electric guitar played with a violin bow by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) "Whole Lotta Love", and a few other songs.
Axl is a bad ass rock star. I’ve seen G&R several times, and its been phenomenal every time. I couldn’t care less about the stories, all I know is that he, and the band always come to play.
Hey Brad& Lex.... Happy to be a new subscriber to your channel here . This is definitely Rock music ; I grew up in the 80's but the term Lex used Soft Rock still holds true . Back in the 80's if a band made songs like this we called them Rock Ballads . I am enjoying getting to know your channel's reactions more . Thanks Brad& Lex
Guns N Roses had introduced themselves in 1987 as a badass hard rock band... so they surprised everyone in 1988 w/ this country ballad... guitarist Izzy Stradlin had that influence in his songwriting, while Slash was the guitar hero.
Slash said their label wanted GNR to record some new tracks... so the band came together in the studio w/ acoustic guitars and finished 4 tracks in 1 day! The EP 'GNR Lies' was released in 1988 w/ 4 live tracks... it sold 2 million copies. It also generated controversy cos of slurs in the song 'One in a million' ... (Slash in particular being black was upset) & the song 'Used to love her' was written in humor, but advocates of violence against women were not amused...
my fave GnR song! ♥
When i was a child that was the first record i found in a field and it was perfect, played it on my record player, classic tune, bring me back to my youth
If you're interested in hearing some violin, electrified and plucked, Dave Matthews Band is the band to listen to.
Look up the acoustic version of You're Crazy from the same EP as this hit. There is a harder version on Appetite for Destruction but the bluesy version on Lies hits better imho.
Still of the night by whitesnake also has an electric guitar played with a violin bow!
Exactly what I was going to say!
Axl is an amazing front man. He wrote all gnr songs and kept the band alive. He made it possible.
He is a hard working man, and so talented.
