Ok wow this is actually really impressive. Very well done and I'm totally gonna use this for my next playthrough. How long did this take you by the way?
You're doing great work out here. One of the main problems with Elden Ring is the lack of variation. You can pick up the final boss' weapon, but it does the same moves as your crusty mace that you started with, minus one cool attack. So, I really appreciate when modders create a better moveset for a weapon that could have been more, but wasn't.
Honestly baffles me. Most of the boss weapons are from humanoid bosses, so transferring some of their attack combos to the player character version of their weapon should be relatively simple in terms of development cost and time. They did it for Sister Friede's scythe in DS3, why not for stuff like morgott's sword, malenia's sword, etc? I would personally LOVE to have Mohg's moveset on the Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear. A great spear used more like a halberd, swinging and slamming rather than just stabbing would be great fun!
This was easily one of the most disappointing weapons for me in the base game. A literal "Dragonbane" style weapon that completely flounders by being a damage type that dragons are inherently strong against, terrible scaling, and no secondary damage baseline. The damage boost and inherent lightning damage you gave it are perfectly reasonable and right in line with many other katanas. Honestly one of the biggest failings I saw with lightning as an affinity in particular is that while electrify armament scales with faith, lightning affinity does not which is just nonsensical. Lightning affinity should have been given the same flexibility as the Fire/Flame Art affinity where there was a physical style version of the affinity (fire) and then a faith version (flame art). Lightning should have gotten two affinities as well. Something like yellow lightning (or just lightning which scaled with DEX) and then red lightning (maybe call it Dragon Lightning or something and let it scale with FTH). It would have provided more flexibility to FTH builds when it comes to damage types (particularly since so many late game bosses are strong against holy leaving fire as the only viable option) and it would have let people do DEX/FTH builds and not feel like they were hurting their lightning damage by not going pure dex, a choice flame art affinity users don't have to make. Personally, this would have been a GREAT candidate for being another INT/FTH weapon due to the Frost/Lightning nature of the weapon art. This could have been the Katana answer to the Sword of Night and Flame, but more melee-centric focused on mixed damage through physical attacks. Something like 12 STR/20 DEX/15 INT/15 FTH would have been about right, and it could have dealt mixed Physical/Lightning/Magic damage with a frost buildup. I personally would have made the WA something a little more active like Unsheathe but with a Lightning/Frost effect at the end of the slash.
I would love for there to be like, a Dragon Lightning affinity that scales with Faith, yeah. Maybe make it the red lightning of ancient dragons. And make a variant of the Ancient Dragonbolt Pot with that scaling, like how there are Redmane Fire Pots *and* Giantsflame Fire Pots.
I feel like I still could've used it despite the scaling, but putting bonus damage vs dragons on a SLASHING weapon is a whole other type of kick in the balls. Like it's actually a joke
I absolutely love the moveset. Light attack combo flows like a river, gracious, deadly and unimpeded, which is a rarity among the mostly clanky or frankly stupid moveset mods I've seen. Transition from Morgott's run-up to Double Slash to Waterfowl is also magnificent. One of the most underrated and unjustly treated weapons in the game finally get what it deserved! So, if I am getting this right, this is still a Dex-scaling weapon with no additional scalings? I wonder if it's possible to add Faith scaling to the weapon and make Lightning damage Faith-scaling, akin to Flame Art infusion as well as to add innate Frostbite buildup to the weapon.
This entire moveset is anime as fuck and it's wonderful. I feel like more weapons in this game deserve movesets in this vein. The only gripe I have is that there is a bit too much going on in terms of effects, but I'm sure that could be toned down in future iterations.
Hard agree! I want more more MORE unique movesets! If the lightning flourishes on the regular attacks (combo enders, charged heavies, etc) were just a tad smaller, this would be absolutely perfect.
*Cries in console* Game is still very fun to play though. This rework is absolutely stunning! I did feel as though this blade needed more. Regardless, I might work it into a run later on. We’ll see!
Gotta say the margott running slash into the double slash, ending with a piece of waterfowl dance. One of sauciest looking combos I've seen. Excellent work!
Great work, I would love to see you modify the dragon greatclaw to its potential, having endure as it Ash of war is pretty terrible and can’t be changed, and not having any lightning moves of the draconic sentinel is sad tbh
It still amazes me how many weapons in this game are actually viable, if you take the time to get to know them. Let's hope future patches bring more awesome stuff into relevance. Another very interesting thought-piece, my dude. Kudos! :)
I would like to point out that that the moveset showcased here is a WIP mod edit by Rusty, because the vanilla Dragonscale is actually pretty underwhelming.
I loved this thing despite its flaws. I went for an Ice/Lightning build, and it was a lot of fun. I didn't care about the flaws, the weapon was just cool. Took it all the way to the Elden Beast after my friend gave me it for my Guts Sword. Getting to the lake of rot in your first two hours for a newbie is.... not going to happen lol. Besides, its not like it is or was op. Glad to see it getting the love it deserves. Maybe From will balance it out and cool it up a bit. Thanks for the video! I would recommend trying that thing normally. The Unique Skill does hit three times and claps poise. There are better sure, but this is cool lookin.
Woow... I got some Black Desert Online vibes from seeing the different animations depending on your combat moveset. Yeah this is a unique moveset indeed. Awesome! I'm gonna try this out for sure. Thanks for sharing this, Rusty. Stay awesome! ^^
This is insane. I was doing a Kakashi cosplay Character using this sword but there weren't any mods at the time that did it justice. This really completes the theme. Can't wait to use it.
Beautiful new combos for the dragon scale blade, the new stats work really well, and the mix of cursed blood slice, waterfowl dance and corpse piler for the unique skill is a brilliant idea
This makes me wish more weapons in base ER were like this. It's a shame so many of them are just another generic sharpened stick variant. Absolutely amazing work here, though!
I do like it, though I think all the lightning flashes and such on the basic swings are a bit much. I think it would be interesting if the WA buff gave you all that for a set amount of time, though, similar to how War Cry gives you an alternate R2 on some weapons.
I actually just found this weapon off the dragonkin soldier in lake of rot, and i was kinda sad that from didnt expand upon it at all, especially when ice lighting looks so nice and can really be built upon, and i absolutely love what you did with the sword
less lightning on screen and that sword would be perfect imo still feel like its a shame that the dragonscale doesnt live up to what it looks like and the lore behind it hopefully it is buffed in a future patch
This is honestly just so amazing. Idk how it’d do for balance in pvp (I mention that because of how bad I want this to be the real version of it), but it’s simply just amazing
Its very flashy, maybe a bit too much for my liking. The fact that Bloodhound step makes the game feel so different is quite amazing. I never found it during my initial play thru and once I tried it the second time around it becomes very obvious how easy it makes a lot of the fights.
bruh this is beautiful.. i wish all Katanas had these movesets, maybe not Nagakiba cuz its so long but they couldve also made Nagakiba a proper Nodachi and put it into curved greatsword category and give it proper heavy, twohanded attacks.
this is sick, i'd love to see more. maybe something like The Axe of Godfrey, that thing really deserves some TLC. Or some already sweet weapons, just making them flashier and cooler, sorta like how you did your moonveil video. Maybe the Marais executioner sword, ruins greatsword, or the halo scythe, just as some suggestions. Great work!
Stunning work. Literally, my only criticism is that the effects are a little too flashy. Tone them down a bit to make it more readable and less blinding and it would be 10/10. It's a solid 9 as is though.
although the non modded weapon feels underwhelming, the modded one feels overwhelming ^^' Mainly from the lightning being way too big, especially if you compare it to incantations and AoW: the bigger the cast, the bigger the lightning, but here you cast enormous lightning really fast. It breaks the balance between the other weapons in game. Other than that, I think it looks really cool :) great job!
This was already done by Dasha on Nexus and showcased by The Great Orange. Said mod changes the entire moveset to leave the weapon in it's sheath until you attack. It pretty cool.
Dude this is the part where i, a console player, cry crocodile tears because id love to use this version of the Dragon scale blade. Impressive, very nice.
This is exactly how the special weapons should be! A lot of the weapons feel samey and so I’m glad I came across this and the new moveset and effects look dope. I am begging for one of these with Varre’s Bouquet. Awesome weapon concept of a little bouquet of flowers that purely bleed and HP restore, but in practice it’s super weak and the moveset is pretty lame. I always imagined it as an undercover bleed/lifesteal machine with some flashy flower-tossing in between. 👀
I LOVE the art of war that was given but honestly one of the reasons I love the dragon scale blade and dragon halberd are that they ONLY do physical damage base, meaning when fighting a boss with high lightning damage negation you aren't being punished
All other weapon's review channels have failed me. Thank you for this good work. I couldn't believe such a cool weapon could be as meh as other people say it is.
I always thought this weapon had so much potential because the ash of war but the move set was underwhelming and there were to additional inputs added for it. Nice to see such a dope mod for it.
Not sure if it's been mentioned but in version 1.00 the Dragonscale blade had faith scaling lightning damage built in along with frostbite buildup on every hit with or without the buff. I've been playing through the unpatched game and this thing is so much better for some reason
I love this sword so much, a very cool and unique weapon that’s really fun to use, it’s also pretty good once you learn how to use it, I finally defeated Melania with it today. The only downside is that there isn’t very much you can do to build into it so I hope that they add more ways to build into lightning or frost in the dlc
This was amazing. I loved this sword when I got it. Just looks so cool. It’s ash of war looks awesome as well. But in comparison to the other katanas it’s a little poor in comparison. It’s buff doesn’t last long and it’s lightning and frost doesn’t scale off anything. Your version looks like what we should have got in game. A legendary katana of ice and lightning. I’m fine with it having no bleed build up. Keep up the awesome. Just don’t overwork yourself haha
gosh i wish this was a change that fromsoft actuality did, but i'd likely go with having a quick parry animation for the weapon art that also acted as the self-buff ability. Short parry time but also would mean that the weapon would have a quick buff that could activated at a moments notice mid combo. Sort of to offset the already crazy cool moveset. Something i also noticed, or maybe missed, but no different jump attack moveset?
This is the kind of shit i want to see more in future from software soulsborne titles Seeing these bosses doing all these epic and elaborate moves when you are stuck with mostly swinging around a sword or whatever like it's a stick you found on the side of the road not only feels sad as fuck (and not the fun kinda sad these games usually bring) it also kinda brings down the bosses in my opinion; hell if they can get beat by this skilless random that one day just decided to pick up a sword and fight gods maybe said god's aren't that big of a deal at all They took a the first step towards this more cooler looking movesets with Bloodborne, then added to that with weapon arts in DS3 and added even more in Sekiro so now i just want them to combine parts of these things and see the combat animations truly reach it's prime
@@DaddySaddo not if they make a entire game with this weapon design philosophy in mind, if they just threw something this over the top in Elden Ring it's obviously gonna cause issues but something can be both flashy and balanced at the same time
Exactly! My first love for weapon movesets began with the one boss with the dagger and sword that kept fighting himself over and over in DS3. Tbh, I don't think I ever finished the game but that weapon carried me so much and I loved the moveset there. This mod now brings my love back into soulsborne games nearly a decade later
So i found this weapon when this game came out, slapped it on my dragon themed katana girl and loved it, did think the moveset was a little lackluster Glad someone else appreciates it too
Love how you used the animations of other weapons like the charged being of elenoras pole blade and of the water flowing sword also saw a bit of bh finesse in there
Honestly this is what it should of needed. I played nearly all of the souls games from fromsoft but I wish they did more stuff like this when they did bloodborne. Every weapon had it's own moves and even though there was no categories for the weapons like the sword category and stuff like that. Every weapon had it's own unique moves which I wish there was more like that. I still like elden ring but I like the other souls games more and my personal favourite as you may have guessed is bloodborne and it was my first souls game and I love it. If fromsoft ever decides to create another souls game they should have more unique moves in the weapons of the next souls game (or do something like from sekiro)
Holy shit this looks awesome! I'm using this weapon in my current run and though the weapon is unique it doesnt feel that way. Looking forward to using it again next run with this moveset
Dragon cult is probably my favorite faction from the souls games. Their lore and the dragons it surrounds is so interesting especially when you get to farum Azula

bruh this is beautiful.. i wish all Katanas had these movesets, maybe not Nagakiba cuz its so long but they couldve also made Nagakiba a proper Nodachi and put it into curved greatsword category and give it proper heavy, twohanded attacks.
this is sick, i'd love to see more. maybe something like The Axe of Godfrey, that thing really deserves some TLC.
Holy shit this is beautiful, the effects are so cool
I wasn't expecting that. This is one of my favorite weapons and I totally agree it needs a tune up! You made it beautiful 🥲
Should make a different move set as well for these weapons when dual wielded but only if you pair it with another Dragonscale Blade.
although the non modded weapon feels underwhelming, the modded one feels overwhelming ^^' Mainly from the lightning being way too big, especially if you compare it to incantations and AoW: the bigger the cast, the bigger the lightning, but here you cast enormous lightning really fast. It breaks the balance between the other weapons in game. Other than that, I think it looks really cool :) great job!
This was already done by Dasha on Nexus and showcased by The Great Orange. Said mod changes the entire moveset to leave the weapon in it's sheath until you attack. It pretty cool.
will there be any way to get the mod? Because I'm in love and too excited to wait
This needs to be an update
Bro gave the weapon that Bloodborne level of depth with the moveset. Amazing job man really love the moveset
Dude this is the part where i, a console player, cry crocodile tears because id love to use this version of the Dragon scale blade. Impressive, very nice.
I pray you do more of these
This is exactly how the special weapons should be!
*I am lightning*
*The rain transformed*
This is AMAZING, so much more style and flair with the moveset changes :D
When rusty formats his videos like this, i feel like im watching Zullie the Witch
I LOVE the art of war that was given but honestly one of the reasons I love the dragon scale blade and dragon halberd are that they ONLY do physical damage base, meaning when fighting a boss with high lightning damage negation you aren't being punished
Someone, give this man a raise!
Would like to see more of your modding to weapons.
This weapon looks super fucking cool, and the damage +frost build up is really god damn good.
Awesome to see my go to weapon getting some amazing love
Man i would never use any other weapon than this if i were able to mod my game. This looks absolutely incredible
Great work. Is by far the best looking katana in the game.
This is the kind of shit i want to see more in future from software soulsborne titles
Seeing these bosses doing all these epic and elaborate moves when you are stuck with mostly swinging around a sword or whatever like it's a stick you found on the side of the road not only feels sad as fuck (and not the fun kinda sad these games usually bring) it also kinda brings down the bosses in my opinion; hell if they can get beat by this skilless random that one day just decided to pick up a sword and fight gods maybe said god's aren't that big of a deal at all
They took a the first step towards this more cooler looking movesets with Bloodborne, then added to that with weapon arts in DS3 and added even more in Sekiro so now i just want them to combine parts of these things and see the combat animations truly reach it's prime
If fromsoft added weapons like the one in this video that will absolutely break the game PvE and PVP wise.
9 hit combo with the skill would have RoB disease of toxic L2 spammers tbh
At least nobody would be complaining about RoB anymore ;)
I was so excited when I found this sword in game. This is what I was expecting.
I wish all weapons had this amount of effort in variety put into them.
So i found this weapon when this game came out, slapped it on my dragon themed katana girl and loved it, did think the moveset was a little lackluster
Glad someone else appreciates it too
Now it just needs a judgment cut and we can have a "homemade" Yamato in-game
Rusty did it, he made his own Dragonscale Blade, with Black Jack, and Hookers!
Love how you used the animations of other weapons like the charged being of elenoras pole blade and of the water flowing sword also saw a bit of bh finesse in there
Lore accurate dragonscale blade be like:
Oh boy this look so cool, let me add it-
*plays on xbox*
I weep
Honestly this is what it should of needed. I played nearly all of the souls games from fromsoft but I wish they did more stuff like this when they did bloodborne. Every weapon had it's own moves and even though there was no categories for the weapons like the sword category and stuff like that. Every weapon had it's own unique moves which I wish there was more like that. I still like elden ring but I like the other souls games more and my personal favourite as you may have guessed is bloodborne and it was my first souls game and I love it. If fromsoft ever decides to create another souls game they should have more unique moves in the weapons of the next souls game (or do something like from sekiro)
should have*
This looks so good, you should add an attack that charges inside the scabbard.
Too bad their aren't any joinable factions. Just lore implicated ones.
Rusty you have done a great service this day may the devs see this video and take your idea into reality
I would never take this off, Great stuff!
1:54 that forehead slash reminds me of a move from sekiro that I think genichiro had in his move-set
After watching further I swear it’s his moveset on the unique skill. Ik it said morgott and melania but still
Thank you, even if its just a mod seeing my favourite katana get some love makes me smile
The first time I took down Placidusax I was dual wielding this and the rivers of blood katana. Good times.
