That actually makes sense! Never seen one in that form. I’ve always had the rectangular blocks of magnesium with the flint in the side.

Correct! It's called a ferro rod - you strike it against the metal multi-tool you showed just afterwards in the video to produce a nice spark. I suggest making some fire starter out of cotton balls soaked in Vaseline kept in a ziplock bag to use with the ferro rod...
