- Flathead represent a major stepping stone in every angler's journey through lure fishing. They are tasty, cool looking, fun fighters and very easy to catch! Due to the huge number of blowfish in the Swan River, the most effective way to target flathead is with lures.
In this video, staff member Jayson talks you through everything you need to know, have and do to get into these wicked fish on light tackle on Perth's doorstep.
What's more, there's a code in this video to give you access to special prices on a selection of popular and effective lures (in store and for one week only!) to give you the edge in your next flathead bash.

Nice vid mate, agree with all of what you said. Just missing a mention of the flattie slaying double clutch 75!
Love the species focused videos guys, cant wait to get into some flatties this season!
Neither can we 😃
always great advice and knowledge.
cheers ya legend
No worries Kallum, cheers for the support!
Great video - very informative heading into flattie season
Glad you enjoyed Mark!
Thank you. Great information.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
great video, picked up some good pointers
Great to hear Phil, thanks for watching!
Walk out far enough to cast back to shore. 12,3,6,9,12. 10 casts each direction. Hard bodied minnow slow retrieval. Usually hook up on 7th to 8th cast. Full circle then move repeat.
Hey Jayson, one question what's your go to knot for your braid to fc leader? Thanks for the video too most appreciated as always.
If you ask anyone, they will all have their own preferences. I personally always tie an FG before the session, but if I lose a leader and get too lazy I might tie a double uni instead. They're easy and pretty strong, but tend to not cast as well. FG is my knot of choice though.
Cheers for the pointers mate 👍oh and I got done by a cobbler on my ankle haha it sucked!
😂 bet it did! Thanks for watching Mitch
Love the video,I am keen to buy some soft plastics for flatties, what do you think will work and in what color in the swan?
Swan flatties aren't particularly fussy, but colours that stand out in water like white will ensure they can see your lure more easily.
Great job mate
Thanks Steve!
Hey, thanks for the info on flattys, how should I work my rigge 70sp shallow on the flats aswell as the khamsin jr and tiny, thanks
The best thing about these lures is that they can be both slow rolled and twitched across the flats. Twitch and pause is generally the most successful
Thanks 🙏
I wanted to but a Daiwa infeet rod but I need to decide between the 20 z one or the cheaper one ,I am getting a nice quality rod so it can last a few years without any problem?should I buy the 20 z that cost a bit more and has more resistance?
The cheaper range represents excellent value for money, but there is no doubt that the Z series are nicer rods. Really depends on your style of fishing and how much you are willing to spend.
Oh shit this is a local video. I'm def coming down for a chat and purchase
Great to hear Noel!
What sort of price are you looking at for the rock hopper boots?
The adrenaline ones we have in at the moment are $99
I’d just go get some Dunlop volleys
@@compleatanglernedlands4318 do you still have these in stock
Yep sure do
Hey guys, what time of the year is the best for flatties? cheers Mike
Hi Mike, summer is generally the best time of year for Swan River flatties, with high water temperatures making the fish active in the shallows.
noooo why did you tell them about the claremont spots (was happy when everyone sat on the jetty catching bloweys and i got out on the flats )
We thought everyone knew about it already...👀
Just checked ya website not bad but could have more flathead lures
never no that we even have that many flathead in wa 😂😂😂
This season their numbers have exploded in the Swan River!
What reels are the best under 200bucks?
Shimano Nasci reels are a very good option for light tackle fishing at that price point.
