    I agree, a more grainy strap like alligator would look more dressy and classic. Otherwise great looking watch. And luckily straps are pretty easy to get online.

    Yes, the strap is too short for bigger wrists. I had to put a black leather strap on it, though the quality was there for sure; I got one with a Miyota 9000 series mechanical movement, and it seems to fit into the slim case very nicely. Don’t forget that any quartz analogue movement will hack. Cheers 🍻!

    Disagree on the strap. People need to realise good quality leather takes time to wear in. Suple factors straps are full of chemicals. And this WAS a field watch in the day. Lugs are also elevated for comfort so you NEED a thick strap.

      "People need to realise good quality leather takes time to wear in. Suple factors straps are full of chemicals."
      You are mistaken. Good quality leather straps do not take time to wear in, they are already supple. They aren't supple because of being full of chemicals. The leather is tanned with dye; chemicals aren't used. For example see my Hirsch Honey Camel Grain strap below. Although this was a padded leather strap, it was soft and supple without needing to be worn in. Regards, #WR4K

      @@watchreviews4k I have brought leather for years your wrong! But probably dont understand. I am talking about thick natural leather. YES this takes time to wear/ break in! Anyone who has worn shoes prior to chemical treatment even knows this. I sure do. I also worked in saddlery for decades, with R.M. Williams Australia (who use Italian leather the best in the world!). Nothing to do with suppleness. NEW, providing its quality thick leather will be stiff at first. Once it wears in then you treat in in a year or two. Then its soft as. Look up Saddleback Leather bags, they changed the leather. By putting chemicals in to make it more supple, because of complainers like you, thereby ruining the prodict, IMO! I have since found out this strap is rubbish however, it is split leather. So find one as I have said. That said you are still wrong on the strap. Look at the lugs the do not curve down. Then look at the review on here of the guy with the black thin starp you protest for - it looks ridiculous on the wrist, like the watch is 'floating'. ua-cam.com/video/Fcsc8TGzcms/v-deo.html BTW, you can thank mainly Americans for demanding soft poor leather as they were too lazy to let it break in and or maintain in with conditioners! I am talking about natural leather. I cannot comment of Hirsche of Austria. Yes I've had many of them and they are excellent, but again I think they are somehow treated. This may be good and maybe bad. Ones I hd from 30 years ago were good cant comment now. Technology has improved, maybe they treat in the tanning process. I dont know. But I stand true to what I said about natural thick leather and how I feel this best fist this piece an dits era.

      @@watchreviews4k Prehemiantly disagree with some of your comments. This was a watch for all occasions and it was built to be the first waterproof and robust watch. It was field watch and dress peiece. So the strap does suit this watch, they got it right. Leather breaks in with time and thick leather lasts longer and looks better - it is also what they used at the time. This watch was used in trenches and by civilians. It was and is the essence of the one watch for all senarios. Unsigned buckle is what we want, original was same! Basic, and was the minimalist strap tapering. Just because the watch looks flashy now does not mean we should move its originality and destroy a perfect homage by toning down its field nature! Again do not need quick release spring bars for its intended era, watch straps were only changed when needed not for fashion reasons. What I would ask for is a higher boxed sapphire crystal. Agree with points on crown and case finishing. Dial was a surprise, but the cream dial is mor to the era. In fact a plain white textured dial would be perfect, but both are acceptable, IMO.

    I agree with you about the strap, the head of the piece looks so classy and the strap so idk rural.
    It’s perfectly acceptable that it’s quartz rather than automatic, given the advantages of the quartz movement.
    On a personal note, I’d like a fluted bezel but it’s either the pieces are too small or day dates, sometimes both.
    The hunt continues!
    Nonetheless the head of the piece looks very nice!
    Thanks for the review!
    I really like the attention to detail, this small fork on the included tool, I never looked at any I’d gotten so far!

    Thank you for this great review! I was looking for a review on this one. For me there are 2 negative facts that are stopping me: the quartz movement and the lugs. For the lugs it should have had wire lugs to make it look great, for the movement there is the version with the st17 but the dial is totally different style. I would have liked the option to choose movment and dial style.

      I have a 7.5inch wrist and i prefer watches below 37mm, the only exception to go above it if its a chrono or pilot watch but biggest I go is 42mm

    Nice and informative video, as always, thanks for that!Those fully polished cases always remind me on chromed brass. For me and my 8,5 inch wrist this watch is too small. And the never ending story with those too-short leathers and bracelets...I´m just tired of it 😶.Btw: On the aliexpress site they claim a length of 23cm and PU for the material used....

    Is there a spring bar underneath the leather on the strap then? How do you actually get it off, I’d rather cut it than damage lugs

    • @watchreviews4k
      @watchreviews4k  Рік тому +6

      Yes, there is a spring bar Jack. The included spring bar too has a thin 2 pronged fork which will remove it. Its just going to be tricky to compress the leather as its thick. Personally I would cut the strap off using a scalpel to avoid damaging the lugs, then fit a strap with quick release spring bars. For example see my Hirsch Honey Camelgrain strap review below. This has quick release spring bars which make changing the strap easy without damaging lugs. Regards, #WR4K

    Irritating detail : 4 in roman numbers is written IV and not IIII ....

    • @watchreviews4k
      @watchreviews4k  Рік тому +8

      See link below. The 1926 Rolex Oyster used "III" at 4. This is a homage of it therefore it makes sense. Regards, #WR4K

    • @glen193
      @glen193 Рік тому +3

      I was under that same impression. However, after doing some research, I found it was quite common for watch manufacturers to use "IIII" rather than "IV". Additionally, I learned that it was also commonly used in ancient Roman times; and that the use of "IV", rather than "IIII" only became widely accepted in Latin after the fall of the Roman Empire. Of particular note also, the use of "IX" rather than "VIIII" for the use of 9 apparently has a very similar story.
      Ironically, I also shared your view prior to researching it, as I took 3 years of Latin in school - and I don't recall ever discussing this point in class so this was news to me as well. But apparently, this is the reasoning behind so many watchmakers using the "IIII" on the dials.
