you're exactly right Nic ! I've been struggling with this for years ; and I know it's because my art is not in alignment with my soul. I've been avoiding getting into the feeling center of the heart ; which is why my art looks so static and flat .

Thanks Nick since I stumbled on Louise Fletcher and found you I've picked up my paints again after almost 10 years. It's been 32 years since art school and whilst the training was good no teachers allowed students to see them paint pictures a shame I had to wait all this time to watch you in action so authentic so appreciated. I am really looking forward to the workshop on Valentine's Day. Best wishes Ocean Australia.

I love the idea of call and response
The correlation of one area of life responding to another, producing movement

Same here! I'm impatient too! It's also fast, and messy, and I play music (and sometimes dance!). Working fast doesn't give me time to second guess everything, second guess myself. It helps me be more intuitive and not think - also like a meditation. :)

I find this extremely interesting. I put my art down for decades, then upon retiring at 55 I decided to pick up my art again.
I started drawing, then watercolor painting, moving to acrylics and now oils.
Ive been painting again for 6 years now and I've noticed my interest in subjects and styles has evolved. My worry of rejection has somewhat diminished, and I find that in itself freeing.
I've been watching your videos for several years now and find this one very informative. It's not always "How to paint" but "Why, and What we Paint".. I think you've explained a very subjective media in a very pragmatic way.
    Well done sir!

Wow, I think this was the answer about the dissatisfaction I've been feeling for years. My art was always really controlled and meticulous and I loved it, but now what I crave is looseness and freedom. It never occured to me that when I developed the meticulous process my life was very loose and free. Now it's very regimented, far more than I like and so it makes sense that I want me art to be free so badly! Thank you for pointing that out!!

Most of us have had a life change since Covid and I have had a giant change. Before cvp 2020 I was a representational painter and now mostly abstract. The Art2Life workshop happened to coincide with the pandemic. It’s the biggest change in my painting that’s ever happened and it happened quickly. Even before covid I was ready to change but thinking about how this relates to the rest of my life is worth contemplating. Thanks, Nick!

life and art are always circling one another. One must respond and adapt.. I’m in Mexico for 6 month… in different pueblos!
the studio is in a suitcase, a tabletop, a random space. the experiences of travel is to let energy fields resonate. let the Images
travel within you as well as all the exterior shifts. surprise oneself… what works over there - is not what stimulates you here and now.
I’m adapting… bought Manta cotton, a traditional mexican fabric, washed it, and painted perro’s (dogs) in an Aztec style-
in response to the Diego Rivera museo Anahaucalli in Mexico city.- and to my emotional response to the dog of mexico.
I feel completely absorbed in being in the experience, and letting all the new archetypes rise out of the ether.

This is really helpful. I'm going through some stuff at the moment and am having therapy for anger management, stress and anxiety. Parenthood is really tough and I don't handle toddler tantrums very well. So I've started to look at my art and how it can help me through this difficult time. I'm striving for pictorial balance - fluid and organic shapes, harmony in my palette and in my compositions. It's really helping at the moment. Long may it last. Thanks for another great video

Thank you Nicholas, very helpful. Your explanations are very clear and very deep. You don't just teach people "how to"... Paint, draw, etc. But you go to the essence of making art. It is not about copying what you paint but to find one's own style by being reflective about our own lives and journey.

Amazing. I can look back at my life and now understand why my art keeps changing...a lot.. my life has too! Your insights are always so powerful.

Its surprising how our feelings are placed down on a canvas or other surface. Self expression is key. Thanks Nicholas

My art is basically a mirror of my life, currently my color palette is dark and bold. You could literally see my life through what I paint the weird thing about it is that is not planned. I think perhaps this is the way I will paint for the rest of my life or not but it is the best me at the moment. On my website right now is my old work and I have only a couple of the new pieces, even though it is my style it feels like two different people. Years of work to become monochromatic, go figure.

Makes me think. I’m very controlled with my art and don’t want to get things wrong. My life seems wrong right now with things I have no control over. Hum.

Your friend's work is very Lawren Harris - like, especially his later stuff. If she's not familiar with his work, she might want to look him up.
    He was pretty amazing.
