Everyone from England talking about how Lampard and Gerard didn’t work, when they had two of arguably the best centre backs in the last 20 years on Ferdinand and Terry.
The team lacked a guy like Carrick who could stabilise the midfield. It’s kinda ironic innit that England at the time had two coaches experienced in Italian football wherein the use of a regista/deep lying playmaker is almost a necessity. And Carrick was one!
@@miz5138 right. Milan's Christmas tree formation should fit well with England 2010. Carrick in Pirlo's position, protected by Milner and Barry in Gattuso-Ambrossini role. Lampard and Gerrard can play Kaka and Seedorf. Rooney can play the number 9. What a what-if.
@@prometheustv6558 Scholes wasn't anywhere near defensively solid enough to play that Pirlo role where as Carrick was perfect for it. Rooney could even drop in CAM behind Heskey and Owen for some games.
Too error prone especially when he was younger. He did good in 2007/08 and 2008/09 but that's pretty much it, and it's because we had a strong squad overall. Not the type of player to come into an average squad and make it better. Wes Brown's my man though, but still.
Went some to same school as him and the football coach would always use wes brown to motivate the players "if you work hard you can be like wes brown playing for united oneday" he was alright but risky.
I never thought I’d hear Wes Brown he described as extraordinary 😂. Fair play to him, but I never understood how he managed to be a mid-tier level player in a side of world class teammates. So many similarities with what Solskjaer is currently trying to build at utd, this is literally the blueprint and im not surprised cuz he was involved in the coaching setup with this team Just need to give him the missing pieces of the puzzle
CDM, RW and a back up centre back. Striker is a red herring, United's current strikers don't miss loads of chances, the issue is we don't create enough clear cut ones. Plus, as this video showed (and City are showing this season and Liverpool have shown over the last few years) you don't need an out and out centre forward to be successful. Blowing £120m on a Kane or Haaland would be money down the drain.
That year , United faced the Lyon of Benzema. Game was closed but well managed by United. Fun fact before the game was played , Benzema and CR7 got an interview and opened a possibility to play in the same team. You know the what happened after that...
whenever utd got to the final of champions league, they had done so unbeaten...99, 08, 09, 11...and also did it while winning the league...man city fans, don't compare your clubs to utd yet..
If my memory serves me correctly, remember ManU having to defend doggedly during both ties of the semi-final against Barcelona, or “park the bus” to an extent. Maybe it didn’t suit the narrative here, but I’d like to think this also showed how tactically flexible SAF was and how effective the fluidity of the team worked in countering a mighty Barcelona team. Who incidentally would go on to beat ManU in 2 CL finals later, in 2009 & 2011.
Paul Scholes said in an interview recently that SAF wanted players to play with confidence and have an ability to be able to move around and play in different positions. This is what I find frustating with Utd and probably other teams these days, it seems like a player can only play 1 position. When Rashford moves from LW to RW he seems to lose so much about his game, same for Dan James. I mean, can you imagine Fred playing out wide like Hargreaves used to have to do sometimes? It really seems to stifle Utd's attack when they're finding it tough to break down opposition as they're just doing the same thing over and over, there doesnt seem to be any flexibility. When Martial plays up front alone he sticks to that position all the time and rarely if ever drops deep to get it. Compare that to RVP who used to run channels to link up play, or even Cavani who drops deep and even runs out wide. I undertstand this may be a tactical thing to specialise players in one position but surely its detremental to a creativity and making it hard for an opponent?
Brilliant analysis. How many games of football do you have to watch to see all the details in your analysis? The £1 mega-deal is brilliant but that song needs some work.
I'd argue 4 but fair enough. The 2 you're thinking of are the 2 greatest teams in english history so i guess it depends on how you define great. I'd argue the 92-94 and 95-97 teams were also truly great teams
Was a brilliant final and I'll never forget the winning moment. The truth is though that United should have been completely out of sight before Chelsea made it 1-1.
3:08 those modern tactical implementations were down to Carlos Queiroz. Those modern types of tactical plays were NOT Fergie's thing at all lol So credit to Carlos for that, who doesn't get enough credit for it tbh.
I still think the 1999 champions league win was better just because of the teams Man Utd had to go through and probably wasnt the strongest team but they had that united grit back then playing til the whistle blew, the amount of games they won in the last 10 mins of the game back then was insane. In the group of death Man Utd, Bayern Munich, Barcelona..Brondby. Then going through Inter Milan and Juventus in road to finals then beaten Bayern Munich literally couldnt have had a harder road to lifting the trophy
It died in 1997, When you could qualify for the champions league when you finished 2nd and 3rd in your league. The competition should be what it says on the tin, the champions of their league. Only 1st place in the league should qualify. Not a watered down competition. The 2nd rate European competition should be a competition where only the domestic cup winners go through that way it's again a another competition with only champions and will make the domestic cups even more competitive. .
Unfortunately only year later Ferguson stop inovating. With little bit of tweak they should got a chance to win one, if not both, not outclassed like that.
Difference between Fergie and any other manger is he only got players who were versatile and could play in any role if they needed to. If you weren’t going to RB from LW then you wouldn’t be a Utd player...

Seeing United now(under OGS) gives the same hint in some department as talking about fluid front 3 as striker changes position in between the game. Only we need to manage to get a defensive mid, right winger, experienced Striker and cb (like Rio) then we could rule the Europe and English football again.
I spent my Sunday afternoon clearing out the shed and constantly singing about a mega deal .
Welcome to the meeega deeeeeal
Hearing all these United legends just makes it that much more agonizing when you look at the team sheet the last few yrs.
They learned from AC MILAN in the midfield and defensive area. It made the game in final result by penalty kick..
It sounds stupid to say but that pass from rooney was one of my most favourite things ive seen in a football match just cause it epitomises everything amazing about him and why hes my favourite ever player
Love the ending song
It really shows how much Ferguson' United dominance was based on how far ahead of the game he was. God I miss those teams and knowing no matter what, the guy making decisions knew what he was doing, even if it wasn't always a 100% success.
Ill pay for the Athletic subscription using your link if you make Mourinho last Champions League win

They made a video on Inter 2010 already. Four years ago.
Get that credit card out buddy 😆
@@BoxOfOranges84 @J G 😂😂
I am so happy you mentioned that pass from Rooney which created the chance for Tevez. That is one of my most memorable moments of the final. I think there was another instance when he played a long ball forward. United were devastating in the first half.
Very nice tactical explanation of how that champions league was won. A great way to remember the achievement. Thanks
Brings tears in my eyes watching this 😭
How did we end up here 😭😭😭
Ask glazers
Fergie left and poor recruitment
Ronaldo left and everything turned to shit
@@prometheustv6558 Nah, in the 4-years between Ronaldo leaving and Ferguson retiring we won 2 league titles, 2 league-cups, and were runners up the Champions League and FA Cup. It was still a solid team for a while, it just all began to fall apart post-Fergie
United have never been a good club apart from the Fergy-busby days
Brilliant as always!! Thanks for the great vid :D
Loved the last bit as well, haha.
Not trolling but can we have an analysis of why lingard is doing so well at west ham

Such an incredible team, and won the final in a nail-biter (Chelsea hit the woodwork twice). I miss this team.
U gotta do Inter Champions League 2010
He already did

Where Jose says he didn't park a bus but a god damn aeroplane 😂?
@@youtubeisnotajob4103 Yes
@@youtubeisnotajob4103 Just type in Inter Milan 2010 Tifo and you'll find it. The video is 4 years old.
The quote you mentioned is from their video last year on "parking the bus"
One of the things that will always stick in my mind in that 08 final, is that counter attack from Rooney to Ronaldo to Tevez.
Edit:
I said this before watching the video.
The real question is when will Mega Deal be released on Spotify?
Bloody hell, I'm too old.
@@miz5138 Scholes could have been that
@@prometheustv6558 Scholes wasn't anywhere near defensively solid enough to play that Pirlo role where as Carrick was perfect for it. Considering Scholes retired in 2004, Id have played a 442 diamond with Carrick CDM with Gerrard and Beckham almost wide (mezzala like) CMs, leaving Lampard/Joe Cole to play that CAM role behind Owen and Rooney. Rooney could even drop in CAM behind Heskey and Owen for some games.
This Mega Deal song makes me laugh, but it also kills the mood 🤣 i hate it and love it.
Cr7 really benefited from such a sophisticated team...but mainly thanks to Sir Alex
Same can be said about any world class player
Just like any player in a worldclass team
@@liampowell5014 yes this is true...but apparently his fans think that cr7 was the only reason for United and Madrid’s UCL success..

personally they are my favorite
I have no words for the 'mega deal' song & animation. 😆
Wes Brown is underrated. Imagine if he can stay fit in his early career. United might have a fastest CB duo in him and Rio.
Too error prone especially when he was younger. He did good in 2007/08 and 2008/09 but that's pretty much it, and it's because we had a strong squad overall. Not the type of player to come into an average squad and make it better. Wes Brown's my man though, but still.
Went some to same school as him and the football coach would always use wes brown to motivate the players "if you work hard you can be like wes brown playing for united oneday" he was alright but risky.
yeaa he is a good team player and i think most of united team in that era are brilliant team players
I never thought I’d hear Wes Brown he described as extraordinary 😂. Fair play to him, but I never understood how he managed to be a mid-tier level player in a side of world class teammates. John O’Shea was another one who got away with it for a good bit too! Not terrible players, but definitely not world class defenders.
Both Brown and O'Shea are VERY valuable squad players it has to be said (which is probably why they stuck around for quite a while).
You're just showing off, now! ✌️😉 Utterly superb analysis, as ever. Brilliant. Very evocative, too. Awesome! (PS. *Sport analysts?* _Yes, the finest!_ *Songwriters?* _Come back to me, once I've heard the full album!_ 😎👌)
Idk why just hearing about this legendary team brings me tears
Incredible. I miss this team
That Man Utd and Chelsea sides are pure Legends!
I remember punching the wall so hard when Ronaldo missed his pen that night in Moscow. But the pain was barely an afterthought once Terry slipped and Van der Sar saved Anelka's shot! Best childhood United memory I have. I also must have been pathetically weak back then as my hand was totally fine the next day...
Great video as always but I came here to get my daily dose of the Megadeal jingle
The mega deal song is goat level 🔥😂
I miss this team so much we were spoilt for riches we really should have won more with this team.
this trio was amazing to watch. they coudnt be marked by anyone back there and scored a lot of goals.
The fact that SAF made Wes Brown into a World Class RB is unbelievable. Dude couldn't even make it at Sunderland after SAF left.
i just watch football recently, and i thought ferguson was best manager, especially at squad building & legacy. but now i know that he also one of the best tactically
Me: Well, this is an amazing analysis of Man Utds and Fergusson's tactics way ahead of their time, chapeau Tifo
Also Me: 🎵 WEELLLCOMMEEE TO THE MEGA DEEEEAAALLLLL 🎵
You should do a video on this Sporting side that is surprising everyone in Portugal, full of young talent.
So many similarities with what Solskjaer is currently trying to build at utd, this is literally the blueprint and im not surprised cuz he was involved in the coaching setup with this team
Just need to give him the missing pieces of the puzzle
Striker?
@@yoyo9winner Sancho, Varane and a CDM imo
CDM, RW and a back up centre back. Striker is a red herring, United's current strikers don't miss loads of chances, the issue is we don't create enough clear cut ones. Plus, as this video showed (and City are showing this season and Liverpool have shown over the last few years) you don't need an out and out centre forward to be successful. Blowing £120m on a Kane or Haaland would be money down the drain.
The Glazers won’t let that happen
he's a Carrick and Nani away from seriously challenging for the league.
The mega deal tune is awesome.
So glad that Rios ball carrying and passing was recognised, he doesnt get enough recognition for that now days I feel.
Mighty Barca team that won nothing for two years until Pep came
"Chills, literal chills"
Didn’t you do a 2007/2008 tactics explained video on United years ago?
The team that really made me fall in love with football
We missed Hargreaves the next year against Barcelona. I think his impact is understated in this vid.
I just watched the entire video so that I could enjoy the 'mega deal' banger 👍
He created two great team during his spell there. Don't see anyone could do that in near future.
3
I'd argue 4 but fair enough. The 2 you're thinking of are the 2 greatest teams in english history so i guess it depends on how you define great. I'd argue the 92-94 and 95-97 teams were also truly great teams
he created 3 genuinely world class sides.
3: the Irwin, Ince, Keane, Cantona team
2: Treble 99
1: 07-08
2012/2013 MUFC was sick as well , very underrated
Was a brilliant final and I'll never forget the winning moment. The truth is though that United should have been completely out of sight before Chelsea made it 1-1.
3:08 those modern tactical implementations were down to Carlos Queiroz. Those modern types of tactical plays were NOT Fergie's thing at all lol So credit to Carlos for that, who doesn't get enough credit for it tbh.
Such poetry.
Joe Devine I would like you to know that the Mega Deal song sold me, you have my respect sir ✍️
7-1 against Roma in UCL tv cable signals on and off what a performance
that's a season before
I still think the 1999 champions league win was better just because of the teams Man Utd had to go through and probably wasnt the strongest team but they had that united grit back then playing til the whistle blew, the amount of games they won in the last 10 mins of the game back then was insane.
In the group of death Man Utd, Bayern Munich, Barcelona..Brondby.
Then going through Inter Milan and Juventus in road to finals then beaten Bayern Munich literally couldnt have had a harder road to lifting the trophy
Are you going to do National Team analysis ahead of the Euros?
the heads are epic
Impeccable!!
Great Job Guys :)
We want our United back ❤️❤️
Great video
I’ll never forgive man united for sending a young Corvo home crying after they beat Chelsea
I miss this team.
How they only won 2 UCLS, with that roster of legends, is beyond me.
Difference between Fergie and any other manger is he only got players who were versatile and could play in any role if they needed to. If you weren’t going to RB from LW then you wouldn’t be a Utd player...
Hey could you make a video about Lingard at West Ham?
That they won against Barca was a 1 in a million seeing how the games went
Barca wasn’t that good that season, finished 18 points behind Real Madrid.
