    Man, thank you so much for this video!!! I am a 54 yo single mom of 20 years and trying out different hobbies and home/yard self repairs these days. The other guy was such a bonehead (sorry, other guy, but you were - throwing out your instructions and downplaying everything, even though you had never used a lathe before).
    Anyway, my sister accidently threw out my instructions, so I came back on and found you!!! Mine is a little different (year 2021) - my faceplate is tiny, and the motor nobs slightly different, but other than that, exactly the same. I paid $158 for mine. I just turned it on - so excited to get going!!!! I'm going to do the same as you at first...just taking it for a few spins with different chisels. I got two sets - a set of 6 flats chisels, all different sizes and a set of the basic 8 - these are much bigger handles. I also go a $55 chuck - not sure if I needed to get that or not.
    Thank you!!! You have made me more motivated and less intimated to get going on this!!
    🥰

      @@jonesmachineco I just finished watching your whole video and see this comment above about the chuck. What's the advantage of using a chuck? I just ordered my Wen a couple hours ago so since I have nothing to look at for reference yet, which end does the chuck replace?

    *As usual, Wen puts out an excellent **MyBest.Tools** well made product at a very reasonable price. Cast iron, portable, table top lathe. Pen turning with ease. An excellent purchase.*

    Excellent video thank you! If you're in the UK, this is the same lathe as the Vevor 8 x 12 and the axminster AW205WL. I couldn't find a video for those specifically but I'm glad I found this.

    Great video, thanks for posting. I've been researching wood lathes and the Wen is considerably cheaper than even the Harbor Freight lathe. From the video, it even appears to be of higher quality. I think I may just pull the trigger on the Wen in the next couple of months!

    • @jonesmachineco
      @jonesmachineco  4 роки тому +1

      We still use it daily. It’s been a good machine.
      The handles need to be improved but are easy to fix my replacing the cotter pins with screws,
      The motor also trips at heavy resistance, this is to protect the motor windings but I think it’s set pretty low.

    Mr. Jones, I want to make Queen Anne (wooden) dolls and I am shopping for a lathe. I found this (Wen) one on the Home Depot website, and thought perhaps there might be a video with someone (like yourself) using it. Bingo! I would like to know your opinion on if this lathe could trim Bass Wood. I believe it is Bass Wood I need to make figures with. .... Thank you for your time. Corliss

      Okay...I solved the problem! Turns out I did not have the center point embedded into the wood! So the lathe just kept slipping and the wood wouldn't turn! I guess you need to really hammer it in there! All is good now.
